You are met on arrival at Christchurch Airport before being transferred to your hotel. Christchurch, "the most English city outside England", grew out of a planned Anglican settlement in the 1850's. The beautiful urban parks and formal gardens shaded by oaks and willows and Victorian architecture typify this corner of New Zealand. The Sudima Hotel is located close to Christchurch Airport and is the perfect spot to rest before beginning your South Island adventure. Accommodation: Sudima Hotel Christchurch Airport or similar Day 2 Saturday 8 November 2014 (B, D) Christchurch - Mt Cook - Omarama Today travel south across the alluvial Canterbury Plains, New Zealand s chief cropping area then turn inland through Burkes Pass to the MacKenzie Country named after a 19th Century sheep stealer. See the quaint Church of the Good Shepherd on the shores of Lake Tekapo then travel along the shores of glacial Lake Pukaki to Mt Cook Village in the Mt Cook National Park. At the heart of New Zealand s most spectacular alpine region is Mt Cook, at 3754 metres the highest peak in Australasia. The Mt Cook National Park comprises 70,013 hectares of ice, snow, rock, sub-alpine scrub, tussock and riverbeds and includes 15 peaks and 5 major glaciers. Mt Cook is also known by the Maori name, Aoraki. In the late afternoon retrace your journey around Lake Pukaki and pass the hydro town of Twizel before arriving in the small rural town of Omarama for your overnight stay. The Heritage Gateway Hotel is situated in gardens with views of the surrounding mountains in the beautiful town of Omarama. Dinner in the hotel restaurant this evening. Accommodation: Heritage Gateway Hotel or similar

Day 3 Sunday 9 November 2014 (B, D) Omarama - Dunedin Your journey today commences with a drive through the Waitaki Plains past the hydro-electric dams to the east coast. From here continue south through Oamaru, for a stop to wander through the historic precinct with its lovely whitestone buildings and characters from yesteryear. From Oamaru continue south to Moeraki to see the fascinating giant marble-like boulders on the beach before reaching Dunedin. Sitting at the head of the magnificent Otago Harbour, Dunedin was founded in 1848 by Scottish settlers and was envisaged as the "Edinburgh of the South". The influence of its Scottish heritage is still strongly evident. Upon arrival enjoy an orientation tour of the city including the University of Otago with its historic blue stone buildings on the banks of the Leith River; the central business area along George and Princes Streets and through the Octagon which features the historic Town Hall and St Pauls Anglican Cathedral and a statue of the Scottish poet Robbie Burns. This afternoon visit Larnach Castle high on the hills of the Otago Peninsula above Otago Harbour. Learn about the tragic and scandalous history of this superbly crafted building which was built in 1871 and see the unique collection of New Zealand antiques and furniture. The Scenic Hotel Dunedin City is situated right in the heart of the city within walking distance of the city s main attractions. Enjoy dinner tonight at your hotel. Accommodation: Scenic Hotel Dunedin City or similar Day 4 Monday 10 November 2014 (B, D) Dunedin Te Anau This morning depart Dunedin and travel south across the fertile Taieri Plains where sheep and dairying are the primary industries. Closer to Te Anau numerous commercial deer farms are seen bordering the road. Approaching Te Anau the mountains of Fiordland National Park are easily seen in the distance. Stop at Lake Manapouri, one of the South Island s most picturesque lakes before arriving in Te Anau. Depart on a cruise across Lake Te Anau to the Te Anau-au Caves. Experienced guides take visitors into the caves by path and small boats underground. Highlights include incredible limestone caverns, whirlpools, waterfalls and the glowworm grotto. On conclusion of tour, return to Te Anau by launch. The Distinction Hotel Luxmore in the serene surroundings of Lake Te Anau is a perfect spot to enjoy the worldfamous beauty of Fiordland. The scenery is spectacular with lofty mountains and deep valleys carved out by Ice Age glaciers. There are clear rushing streams and leaping waterfalls set in magnificent native rainforest. At Milford Sound board a comfortable vessel for a scenic cruise down the fiord past Mitre Peak to the open sea. Seals and dolphins are often seen in the clear waters of the fiord. From Te Anau travel through the quaint settlements of Mossburn, Athol and Garston then travel along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Queenstown. Nestled among glacier-rounded hills and dramatic rugged mountain peaks, Queenstown is New Zealand s premier year-round alpine resort. Dinner tonight is at Queenstown's most spectacular location. Ride the aerial gondola high above Queenstown to Bob s Peak where the Skyline Restaurant serves up a mouth-watering Taste of New Zealand buffet - feast on South Island salmon, seafood, salads, roast meats and delicious desserts - and feast your eyes on the most spectacular scenery in the country.
