Proposed Airspace Changes The National Air Traffic Service has sent out the following letter to interested parties about their plan to change some of the airspace near Thornhill from Category E to D (i.e. from you can fly in it to you can t fly in it without ATC permission ) 1

New Hangarage Rates From Sue: For 2009, the new rates are as follows: Airsports Club membership - increased from 60 to 80 a year covers use of airfield and facilities and free landings, but not hangarage for one year. Airfield daily member - no change at 10 a day covers use of the airfield and facilities (but not hangarage)for a single day use for non-airsports Club members. It is a daily fee for anyone who wishes to drive in and rig their hang glider, microlight, FLPA,paraglider, or paramotor. Single landing fee - no change at 5 applies all to non-members (PPR is necessary) Airsports Club Associate yearly member - increased from 10 to 20 open to anyone interested in the activities of the sports club - may attend events in a non-flying capacity and receive newsletters. Hangarage yearly rates: Hang glider wing in bag - increased from 60 to 80 FLPA - increased from 60 to 80 Rigged flexwing microlight - increased from 790 new hangar / 740 old hangar to 960 new hangar / 790 old hangar De rigged flexwiing - increased from 395 new hangar / 370 old hangar to 480 new hangar / 395 old hangar De rigged fixed wing microlight - depends on size All microlights must be on sturdy and easily moveable trolleys. No trailers. All those who wish to fly from and use the Thornhill Airfield Facilities must be members of the. The membership year runs from the 1st February each year and all fees due, including hangarage are payable to the ʻ ʼ in advance by the 1st February 2009. Epic Lanzarote Flying It seems that Henry Blackshaw and his chums have been getting some epic flying in Lanzarote this Christmas. First of all Henry and co found themselves on Famara in wave at 5000 feet on 27th December at sunset. Oh and if any airport officials start asking questions, then it was only 3000 feet, OK? There s a hang glider in this picture - can you see it? (In the blue sky near the edge of the wave cloud about ¼ of the way down and 1/3 of the way across from the left-hand edge) The on 8th January, Tom Weissenberger, who s the only person ever to have flown from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura, managed to fly from Famara to the top end of the island and then on to the very bottom end of the island - 82km in just under 4 hours.
