Detailed Itinerary: Day 1: Your adventure begins! Arrive to Mountain Inn - Moshi, our base hotel for check-in. If you require any airport / road transfers please do not hesitate to contact us. Settle in and prepare for the climb on your arrival (if you require any mountain equipment, please visit our rental store within the premises). Meet and greet fellow group members and enjoy your dinner. Your group will have a pre-climb briefing on the trek with our experienced Kilimanjaro Manager where you can ask any last minute questions and clear any doubts. Get a good night s rest at Mountain Inn Note all arrivals to Mountain Inn have to latest by the evening in time for dinner and pre-climb briefing. We would highly recommend climbers to come a day before Day 1, to recover from jet-lag, acclimatize and fully prepare for the climb 9 days, 8 nights (7 days on trek) Day 3: Day 2: Trekking time: 3-4h Trekking distance: 7km Have a fulfilling breakfast for the first day of your climb. Meet your head guide for the climb at Mountain Inn reception. Your entire luggage will be weighed. You will then be driven to the Marangu park gates (1860m), the headquarters of Kilimanjaro, which will be approx. 60 minute journey. Here you will complete the necessary registration formalities (registering passport numbers, receiving permits, etc.). The days hike takes you through the mountain s rain forest zone with a designated short picnic lunch spot en-route. You may be lucky enough to encounter the black and white coloured Colobus Monkeys. You will have an option to go for a short hike up to Maundi Crater. Hot dinner will be served in the dining hut. Overnight Mandara Hut (2720m) Trekking time: 6-8h Trekking distance: 11km After an early breakfast, you will begin the days walk by clearing the forest and perhaps glimpsing Kibo and Mawenzi in the distance. The vegetation changes remarkably to a moorland meadow, and at your picnic lunch stop (usually half way) you may see a few scavenging mice. You will reach Horombo around mid-afternoon where you will have most of the afternoon free. Dinner will be served. Overnight Horombo Hut (3720m)

Day 4: Trekking time: 3-4h Trekking distance: 5-8km This extra day and night at Horombo is for additional acclimatisation. A hike towards the Mawenzi Saddle, passing the Zebra rocks (3980m) on the way (about 3 hours up and 1.5 hours down), is strongly recommended. This hike will further assist with the process of acclimatisation to the altitude and the slow paced day will allow your body to rest for the tough walks ahead. Remember to drink enough water and move slowly! All meals for the day are at the hut. Retire to bed early and get a last good nights rest. Overnight Horombo Hut (3720m) Day 5: Trekking time: 5-6h Trekking distance: 12km Today you take the alternate path from Horombo (from your acclimatisation day) and proceed past the last water point into the alpine desert. The path soon becomes steeper and the landscape across the saddle becomes bleaker as you approach Kibo Hut. You should reach Kibo Hut by early afternoon for a well-earned rest before the major challenge of the night s summit attempt. Early dinner, prepare your thermals, snacks and water for the nights climb. Try to get a few hours sleep before the guides wake you up. Overnight Kibo Hut (4700m) Day 6: Trekking time: 12-16h Trekking distance: 21km Around midnight (00:00am) you will be woken by your guides for the summit attempt. The early start allows you to reach the summit in time for sunrise, and still gives you time to descend in the daylight. You will walk in single file, ascending in a zigzag pattern (due to the steepness) through the scree as you enter the arctic zone of the mountain. The climb to Gilman s Point is probably the most daunting section of the Marangu route, mainly due to the altitude, darkness, and many hours of walking prior to this, however there are no technical difficulties. Keep pushing forward and consult the guides regarding any altitude sickness, they are trained to notice symptoms of mild, medium and high altitude sickness and will be able to advise you if you can continue ascending, or if you should stop and descend. Determination will take you to Gilman s Point at 5710m. Here you will take a short rest and those who are still feeling strong can continue to Uhuru Peak (5895m). Finally you ve made it to the highest point in Africa, capture the moment with photos! You will not stay for long at Uhuru Peak, our guides advise on staying here for no more than 10-15 minutes then you should begin your descent to. The scree feels very lose underneath you and you may find it is harder to descend than to ascend. Two walking poles come in use here and the guides can also show you a trick to almost ski down. You follow the same path you had used to ascend until Kibo campsite where you will have a hot lunch. Continue descending till the junction for Rongai / Marangu route at the top of the saddle, continue towards Horombo through the heather and moorland until Horombo Hut. The walk from Kibo to Gilman s usually takes around 5-6 hours, the walk to Uhuru a further 1-2 hours and the descent to Horombo approximately 6-7 hours. Dinner will be served at camp and enjoy a well-earned rest for the night. Overnight Horombo Hut (3720m)

Day 7: Trekking time: 5-6h Trekking distance: 12km Wake up to the final day on the mountain. You leave Horombo Hut after breakfast and trek south through the forest until Marangu Gate (1860m). Once you reach the gate, your support team should be waiting to congratulate / say goodbye to the group. If you wish to distribute tips / gratuities this is the perfect time to do so. If lucky the guides and porters will sing the Kilimanjaro song, say their goodbyes and introduce you to your driver who will transfer you back to Mountain Inn. On arrival collect your room keys and enjoy a shower (after 6 days of not showering). Relax for the rest of the day and enjoy additional services at Mountain Inn swimming, sauna, massage etc. Final celebrations including a 5-course meal tonight with the rest of your group. Overnight Mountain Inn Day 8: Spoil yourself with a delicious breakfast. Take a glimpse at Mountain Inn s curio gift shop for your Kilimanjaro souvenir. Check-out by 10.30am: - Proceed for a wildlife safari in the world-famous national parks* - Proceed to relax in the unspoilt beaches of Zanzibar* - Proceed to the airport for your departing flight* - End of our services *for more information please contact us on info@shah-tours.com
