The Committee acknowledges the tireless efforts and commitment over many years from the Immediate Past President, Greg Mead and Secretary, Brian Goldberg who collectively volunteered their services for close to 20 years. Vale 12 ANZAC Day badge selling ANZAC Day badge selling commences 14th April through until 24th April including the Easter period from 10am to 4pm at Woolworths, Coles and the Cowes Newsagency. We are in search for some volunteers to assist us selling our badges shifts are between two and three hours. Let s see if we can beat our all time record... ANZAC DAY Friday 25th April, 2014 Cowes Cenotaph Two changes this year! 1 The actual commemorative service location will be facing towards the Cowes jetty triangle and not on The Esplanade. 2 The Gunfire Breakfast will be held adjacent to the Cenotaph on the lawn area near the rotunda there will be no breakfasts served at the Phillip Island RSL. Program of events: 6:00am 6:30am 10:50am 11:00am Noon Dawn Service Gunfire Breakfast on the Lawn $2 donation ANZAC Day march Commemorative service Service people, veterans and their families are invited to the Phillip Island RSL for light refreshments and entertainment from singing sensation The Valeries (1:00 to 3:00pm)

All Joey s Kid s Club members will receive Easter eggs at the Kid s Disco on 11th April see page 5 An eggscellent Easter promotion for our Phillip Island RSL members every $20 accumulated spends on food and beverage between now and 3.30pm 20th April, earn you an eggstra entry ticket to the eggstraordinary Easter Eggstravaganza Draw on Sunday 20th April at 4pm in the ANZAC Room. You could be going home with one of these! Please visit the website for the rules of the draw. On Friday 28th March, you have full permission to wear your favourite board shorts all day and all night at the Phillip Island RSL, whether you re wining and dining or simply relaxing within the venue... And it s all for a good cause! All we ask is that you donate $2 towards the Woolamai Surf Lifesaving Club s appeal to raise funds to build a new lifesaving tower at Smiths Beach. In return, the Phillip Island RSL will match your donations dollar for dollar! Our staff are also joining in the fun so there are no excuses! BOOK NOW FOR A UNIQUE LIVE THEATRE EXPERIENCE! Be Careful What You Wish For is a live radio play presented by the Phillip Island Offshore Theatre Group at the 19th Hole Bar & Function Centre on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th April 2014. 5 Page 5 Serendipity March/ An Exhibition of Watercolours by local award winning artist The Journey So Far is presented by award winning local artist, Tom Tyrrell at the 19th Hole Bar & Function Centre, Phillip Island Golf Club. Everyone is invited to the Opening on Thursday 17th April from 6pm. The exhibition hours are: Good Friday 18th April: noon to 5:00pm Easter Saturday 19th April: 10:00am to 5:00pm Easter Sunday 20th April: 10:00am to 5:00pm Easter Monday-21st April: Noon to 5:00pm ANZAC Day 25th April: Noon to 5:00pm Saturday 26th April: 10:00am to 5:00pm Sunday 27th April: 10:00am to 2:00pm Tom has been painting water colours for over 20 years and has been a contributing artist to the Australian Artist Magazine and demonstrated for the Victorian Watercolour Society. 6 Serendipity March/April 2014 Page 6 Islander s Day Club Monday s 10am ANZAC Room The Club meets every Monday at the Phillip Island RSL s ANZAC room excluding public holidays. Activities include morning tea, gentle exercise, speakers, games and trivia, carpet bowls, bus trips and outings and lunch is subsidised by the Phillip Island RSL. It s only $2 to join and $5 for lunch (thanks to a huge subsidy from Phillip Island RSL). Members are encouraged to attend in house meetings on a regular basis to qualify for subsidised outings and bus trips. Points will be awarded for attendance for subsidised outings; legitimate reasons for non attendance will be considered if we are notified. What s coming up: 31st March Speaker from Gippsland Centenary House regarding new accommodation available to families attending the new Gippsland Cancer Care Centre at Latrobe Regional Hospital. (3 points) 7th April Jenny from Bridge Hearing regarding new aids available for the hearing impaired and how to care for our ears! 14th April Easter craft activities commence with Janice and Carmen. Men can play pool or darts. Volunteers meeting afterwards. 21st April Easter Monday public holiday no meeting. 28th April Trip to Maru Craft for lunch and visiting the albino kangaroos, koalas, emus, wallabies and other wildlife...including a pirate or two!!! 8 Serendipity March/April 2014 Page 8 Phillip Island RSL Community Update He may be 92 years young, but Ric Fuentes is a very active member of the and is pictured here proudly showing his latest work fully restored rocking horse. It took well over 100 hours and a lot of sourcing of material from local op shops and craft shops. The rocking horse has been in one family for many years and has been used by children from at least two generations and can now be handed down to the next! Due to popular demand, Gatescape returns as a feature of the Gippsland Arts Festival in May and offering a helping hand, is our. Pictured is Bhavani Rooks and Shed Co ordinator, Terry Heffernan with a completed gate. Bhavani is working with local schools and businesses encouraging involvement in this eye catching event. It has been a busy few months Terry is pictured with some restored and painted oars for the Woolamai Surf Lifesaving Club. The is open on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30am to noon.
