HOTEL OVERVIEW is a leading five-star hotel in the bustling city of the Indonesian capital. From 22 March 1994, the first time opened its doors to the public, up to the present day, it has retained its place as one of the top hotels in the capital, even in the face of increased competition from other five-star hotels. SHANG PALACE Shang Palace Chinese restaurant serves a huge array of Chinese specialities. WHO S WHO AT SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, JAKARTA Gerhard Hecker, General Manager Mr. Hecker started his career in his native Germany, which saw him through thorough training in all sectors of hotel operations, with specialisation in the fields of food and beverage and catering. After a short stint in the Middle East and yet another assignment in Germany, he first arrived in Hong Kong in 1983. Mr. Hecker has played a vital role in two hotel openings one in Singapore and one in Bangkok before taking up his first assignment as general manager at a five-star hotel in Hong Kong. After being at the helm of this hotel for almost 15 years, he ventured to Shanghai to manage another five-star hotel before following the call to join Shangri-La Hotel and Resorts in 2006. He brings with him 34 years of hotel experience, of which 26 were in Asia. His last posting was in southern China, where he successfully opened and managed one of the company s award-winning flagships, the 600-key Futian Shangri-La, Shenzhen. Married with three children, he enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities and he is particularly fond of golfing, motor-biking and deep-sea fishing. Claudio Rossi, Executive Chef Chef Claudio has almost 30 years of experience as a chef, and he has worked around the world in countries such as Italy, Canada, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Syria and Indonesia. His career with the Shangri-La family started in 1993 at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila. He has also worked at China World Hotel, Beijing and at Shangri-La s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei. His passion for food and his journey around the world have made him knowledgeable in many different types of cuisine from Europe, Asia and the Middle East, from classic and traditional to modern and contemporary. He believes in creating excellent cuisine by combining the finest ingredients, cooking techniques and hygiene to retain the food s flavours, aromas and textures. Alexandar Hekimov, Executive Pastry Chef Chef Alex realised he had an interest in the world of cooking when he was young. Born in Bulgaria, he entered a catering school in his home town, but it was not until he went to London and watched a chocolate and sugar demonstration by Tony Hoyle, the captain of England s national team of pastry, that he discovered his true passion for chocolate and pastry. Chef Hoyle soon became Chef Alex s mentor. Chef Alex continued his training and mastered the study of chocolate and pastry in France. 9

SHANGRI-LA RESIDENCES, JAKARTA Shangri-La Residences, Jakarta offers a stylish living concept. Housed in 31-storey twin towers, the residences complement the adjacent five-star.
