Upcoming Events The next chapter meeting will be held on May 19 at KHFD. The chapter meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m. Following the chapter meeting, Mike Allen, traffic reporter for WTIC-AM 1080 Radio gave an excellent talk about his career as flying traffic reporter. Mike has been reporting traffic since August 1980. Over his career, he has accumulated over 34,000 flight hours over Hartford in a C172RG at an altitude of about 1500 ft. He shared a humorous story about becoming a pilot because he could not afford the insurance for his very first car, so he sold his car and used the money to pay for flying lessons. He talked about how he got into traffic reporting along with many interesting and entertaining experiences over his 30 plus year career. Since April 2017, Mike has been reporting traffic from his home office. CBS decided to suspend all aircraft traffic reporting to cut costs. Today, Mike uses traffic cameras and State Police reports to gather the traffic information for his traffic reports. The members in attendance greatly enjoyed Mike s talk and appreciated the fact he took time to out of his busy schedule to meet and speak with our chapter members.
