Throughout the renovation project, the terminal building s "strengthening of safety and security" and "coexistence with the environment and local community" will be kept foremost in mind, while fundamentally improving the traffic flow of arriving and departing customers, with active incorporation of the latest IT technology, to achieve speedy and smooth movement. In addition, the terminal will be a space with comfort and convenience, and by full renewal of the commercial area for more attractiveness, the Osaka International Airport will be reborn as a speedy and smart urban advanced airport. Please look forward to Osaka International Airport s terminal renovation project Speedy & Smart Urban Advanced Airport ITM. Major Renovations: Speedy and smooth movement (enhancements for business traveler use) Departure Flow The new pedestrian deck will make it possible to go directly from the monorail station to the second floor security checkpoint without changing floors. Buses will arrive in front of the terminal s departure area, making the transfer to the check-in counter and the security checkpoint speedier. September 2, 2014 An in-line screening system will be installed for departure procedures and security checks making the process smoother. Introduction of a self-service baggage drop off will also be reviewed. By expanding the security checkpoint, waiting time will be shortened making it possible to pass through more smoothly. Installation of moving sidewalks at the boarding gate area will make it possible to proceed more smoothly. A terminal finger for small aircraft, such as the MRJ, will be added to make smooth boarding and deplaning possible. Arrival Flow The arrival exit will be concentrated in the central terminal area on the second floor, with a new pedestrian deck connecting directly to ground transportation to enable speedy departure towards the next destination. The arrival lobby will provide traffic information by IT and digital signage, and it will also support customer s accurate selection of ground transportation. Comfortable and convenient space (more comfortable and easy to use) With the concentration of the arrival exit in the central terminal area, a new arrival lobby will be built on the second floor with an atrium open to the third floor. Overlooking the new arrival exit, new space will be developed on the third floor for lobby space, card lounge, and a business support center. Gate lounges will be completely renovated, uneven floor levels and steps will be eliminated, and braille and multi-language signs will be added with universal design compatibility. Wi-Fi service will be provided throughout the terminal so that the Internet can be accessed anywhere.
