We have wonderful teachers and musicians to lead and encourage you during classes and in the evenings, we are situated at a beautiful resort with staff and workshop committee members ready to help make your stay comfortable, and we have you here to add to the excitement and enjoyment of the event! Everything is ready for a wonderful time! Get ready to jump in and get this party started! Fred DeMarse Chairman And from the Organising Committee The Organising Committee, Fred, Fiona, Kate and Anne, with welcome assistance from local dancers, hope that you will enjoy this 6 th International Branch Weekend Workshop. It is great to see so many people returning, and to see new people from all over the world, to celebrate the joy of dancing. 1

The Teachers Jean Dodds (Adelaide, AUSTRALIA) Ellie Briscoe (Alexandria VA, USA) Ellie took her Teacher's Certificate at the TAC Summer School at St. Catharine s, Ontario, Canada, in 1982, where she met her husband, Mel, and has taught at workshops across North America and in Japan. She has tutored RSCDS teacher candidates for nearly 20 years, and in 2016 was appointed an RSCDS Examiner. Her favourite aspects of SCD are the music and how it drives the covering and phrasing, the teamwork, and the way people grin when they "get it". Before she retired, Ellie was a manager in the National Geographic Society Library in Washington, DC for 25 years, and enjoys singing in a chorus, her two cats, and taking photographs and watching fish while scuba diving. Jean was born in Scotland and at 10 years old travelled with her family by sea to Adelaide, South Australia as 10 pound migrants. At the age of 12 she began Highland Dancing, which she embraced with a passion. As well as competing, she completed all of the exams, including the Australian Adjudicators Exam. During a 6 year stay in Melbourne Jean was introduced to Scottish Country Dancing and completed her Teachers Certificate in 1988. Since that time she has taught classes regularly in Adelaide as well as teaching workshops in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and America. She has been a committee member of the Adelaide Branch on and off for most of her dancing life and has helped to organise three Australian Winter Schools. Jean believes that SCD provides not only exercise but a friendly social environment and the opportunity to meet many likeminded dancers from all over the world. William Williamson (Amisfield, SCOTLAND) A native of Dumfriesshire, William Williamson learned Scottish Highland and Country Dancing as a child. After studying music in Edinburgh, William took up a teaching post at Moffat Academy, north of Dumfries, Scotland. As a freelance broadcaster, he has produced and presented programmes locally and nationally, and has been a guest on the BBC s Saturday night dance music programme Take The Floor. Scottish Country Dancing has always played a large part in William s life, and he performs and teaches in many parts of the world. He is a long-time member of the Dumfries Branch of the RSCDS and has taught at the Society s AGM, Winter School, and Summer School. 2

The Musicians James Gray (keyboard) Born into a family actively involved in the local Scottish Country Dancing scene, James grew up surrounded by a love of Scottish music and culture. He started piano lessons at the age of five and later took up the accordion. James is well known among Scottish country dancers for his solo and ensemble piano playing. He was the director of the first RSCDS Youth School. In 2006 he released a solo album Piano Dance, and he is featured on several RSCDS recordings. James lives in Oslo, Norway, where he is often seen skiing or heard playing piano. He maintains his links to Scotland, and plays regularly at the RSCDS Summer School in St. Andrews. Andrew Lyon (accordion) Andrew learned piano at an early age and later progressed to the accordion. At the age of 20, having danced for many years already, he formed the Scottish Measure band. He is a well-known accompanist for Scottish Dancing and plays regularly at day schools across the UK and Europe and at the RSCDS Summer School in St Andrews. He has composed several tunes for Scottish dancing, many of which have been published as lead tunes. Ian Robertson (fiddle) Ian Robertson is a highly experienced Scottish dance musician, with over 35 years experience with many top bands in the UK. He led his own band, Sound Company, for 15 years. Equally at home on fiddle and accordion, Ian now plays regularly for country dances, weddings, ceilidhs and concerts across the UK. He is also a regular visitor to groups in continental Europe and further afield. Frequently working as a soloist (fiddle or accordion with MIDI piano and bass), Ian also offers combinations with fiddle, drums and piano according to the occasion. 3
