From the Commodore From the Commodore Gary Scofield Since the first Tuesday of July falls on July 4 th, the July General Membership meeting has been rescheduled to July 11 th, same time, same place. We are now well into boating season even though the river is still running higher than the normal flow for this time of year. When you are out on the water keep a watch for floating debris. We are still getting logs and tree limbs floating into the basin, so we know it is also out in the river. The club s social events are in full swing with a successful Margaritaville in June and the Beach Party the next event on July 15 th. If you are not attending our social events, you are missing having a GREAT TIME with your fellow club members-rsvp for the Beach Party today! Remember, a copy of your vessel 2018 registration is required to be on file with the club by July 1 st for the remainder of the 2017 boating season. I have told members about this new Standing Rule V.7 in the Yacht Talk every edition since April. Fines will be levied on those members who are not in compliance by July 15 th. If you have questions, please contact me by phone (947-5707) or email gscofield08@gmail.com. I will be holding another Class C Training session for members wanting to us our fuel dock before our July 11 th general membership meeting at 6:30 sharp! Let me know if you are planning to attend. A BIG THANK YOU to all the members that have given their time to help with our social events and work parties at the clubhouse and on the docks. The club could not function without your generous time in helping with these activities. BOAT SAFE!! From the Vice Commodore-Chris Jensen Welcome new members voted into RYC at the May meeting; John and Satoe Fisher David and Kate Welch David and Janet Balmer A New Fire Pit for the Deck We are initiating a fundraising activity for a large gas fire pit to be constructed on the deck of the yacht club sometime in late summer with the goal of it being fully completed by fall. It will be constructed of the same type of brick matching the BBQ. RYC members can purchase your own personalized brick for $100 each. Contact Chris Jensen 509-948-7160 for additional information or simply fill out the form attached, enclose a check and drop it in my RYC mailbox. - 2 -

From the Rear Commodore Bruce Carlisle 2017 Event Calendar The Save the Date calendar for next year is attached. In coordination with Clover Island Yacht Club, I included several of their events that are open to our members. Clubhouse rental dates are also included so you are aware of days when the clubhouse will not be available for your personal use. The calendar in this format will be published each month in the Yacht Talk and posted on the clubhouse, kitchen bulletin board. Dock Crawl We will not be conducting the Dock Crawl in August. I have not identified a Host for this event. I will look for another event to hold on August 26 th. Father s Day Brunch Brunch was served at the Clubhouse from 9:00 to 11:00 am. There were 108 members and guests attending rivaling attendance at the Mother s Day brunch. Hearty thanks go out to Nancy Hubbard who lead a team of volunteers and to her team Kirby Amacker, Janet Balmer, Shannon Brown, Joan Coomer, Chris Gebo, Rose Gray, Jan Jensen, Angela Keck, Janelle Klashke, Sandy Sanders, Bonnie Scofield, and Chris Web and of course my wife Deb who helped organize it all. I would also like to acknowledge Janet Balmers, one of our new members, for her gift to the Club of a new Mixmaster. Also, KUDOS to the commodore for rolling up his sleeves and leading the cleanup outside with Scott Williams the kitchen and Shannon Brown for cooking up left-over supplies into breakfast burritos for overnight guests to our Beach Party event in July. Margaritaville on the Docks Margaritaville was another success this year. The weather was great which made the awesome food and drinks easy for the fun filled crowd to enjoy. We were joined by a good contingent from Clover Island which added to the fun. A special thanks goes out to the hosts Obie and Kirby Amacker and Chris Jensen and to Aaron and Nancy Hubbard - 3 -

who helped cleaning slips prior to the event and Sandy Sanders who spearheaded the decorating. Beach Party July is here with the summer heat and of course the annual Beach Party. Mark your calendar for July 15 th if you havn t already and get your reservation in early (see the attached flier for details). This event sells out each year so a reservation is a must. Drop of your $20/person payment in my mailbox (Bruce Carlisle) at the club or mail directly to the Club. If you want to pay at the door the price is $25 with advance reservation. Not bad for food, Voo Doo Alley and all the beer and wine your system will tollerate in the heat!!! Clubhouse Sound System The sound system is updated with a new cabinet and mixer that allows pairing with mobile phones so you can play Pandora stations or stored music. There are also a set of detailed instructions for setting up the system to play music from the tuner or stored on a cassette (any of those still out there?) or CD. It will also play music recorded as MP3 files on thumb drive; but the required and inflexible formatting of the thumb drive limits the use of this feature. Also, there are instructions on balancing the sound from the Clubhouse speakers including the Deck. Look for the notebook near the cabinet and try it out next time you are enjoying the Clubhouse or Deck area. Fire Pit Fundraising is in progress for the new fire pit on our deck. The design is nearly complete and unlike the photo shown here the pit will be constructed from brick and granite tiles to match the existing BBQs. The pit is 18 high and a total of 16 feet long with room for chairs on both sides. Anyone who has sat around the new fire pit at the Clover Island Yacht Club knows how great a feature this is and how it extends deck use in the spring and fall. If you want to contribute to this great deck improvement there are forms on the right when you enter the main Clubhouse entrance. You may acknowledge your $100 contribution on a bricks (look at the BBQs to see an example of this) or remain anonymous. Friday Clubhouse Gathering During the next few months we continue the standing tradition of meeting on Friday evenings for food and libations. Open to all club members and their guests - - 4 -

Very informal. Bring your own everything, something to share if you like, and lets gather on the deck when the sun shines or the Clubhouse when the wind blows. It never rains in the desert right? We restocked the kitchen with plates, bowls, glasses and mugs. We only ask you rinse and load the dishwasher before you leave. From the Dock Captain Roy Keck Moorage -RYC Moorage is current completely full except for one (1) 40 slip available. Work Credits -The Columbia River s high water conditions continue to be a challenge with debris and logs going over the top of the Debris Barrier. Work credits can be earned by RYC Members anytime when needed by blowing out debris from along walkways / slips and cleaning goose poop from the dock walkways. Record your efforts in the Work Book Log in the kitchen drawer. Community Support -The RYC provided the US Coast Guard Auxiliary guest moorage in their support of the Richland Regatta Boat Race June 8th through June 11th. RYC Requirements -RYC Members are required as of July 1st to have; Washington Boating Cards for all Vessel Drivers; current 2018 tabs attached to their vessel; a copy of the vessel registration and insurance documentation with $300k min. coverage and naming the RYC as an additional Insured on file with the RYC. RYC Expectations -The RYC recommends that all RYC vessels be annually safety inspected by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary or Benton/Franklin Sherriff Department and display current 2018 Inspection decals. All RYC Members are expected to maintain their vessel and slip area safe and clean and use good boating / dock etiquette. Please check your moorage lines and fasteners, power cords and connections, boat batteries and bilge pumps, dock boxes and lid latches. Clear debris and spray for spiders from around boats and slip fingers. Dock Boxes -The RYC ordered six (6) new Dock Boxes for re-sale to RYC Members on a first come basis. Three (3) are still available for $500 each and requires some assembly and lagged by the RYC Member. Electric Meters -By July 1 st, the RYC will have read the Dock Electric meters. Bills will go out later in July. From the Building Coordinator Brent Shindehite Please put all garbage or other items you re disposing of inside the parking lot dumpsters. Waste Management's driver's will not get out of the truck and put items and trash left along the side into the dumpster. Thus, it remains there, often gets under the dumpster, and remains indefinitely. This is not only unsightly, but may create a health hazard. Examples of things left by the side of the dumpsters are large boxes, garbage bags, pallets, - 5 -

tree branches, etc. Boxes need to be flattened or folded to fit in the dumpsters. Branches need to be broken up. If you can t get it into the dumpster, please dispose of it someplace else. Watch Those Carts Please remember to go easy around the building when taking the carts to and from the docks. There are several breaks in the exterior stucco where it has been banged into. Just a little extra care and time will assure our building lasts well into the future without significant repairs on the exterior. From the Rental Coordinator Dan Sanders RYC CLUBHOUSE RENTALS If you re interested in renting the clubhouse, call Dan Sanders (948-8832) November is available for a weekend rental, and of course weeknight rentals through the end of the year are pretty easy to accommodate. *For more details regarding rental of the Clubhouse including blocked out dates, log on to the RYC website; Downloads (Members), go to Standing Rules of the Richland Yacht Club. From the Treasurer Doug Larsen We will be processing the spring quarter electric bills early in July. Please contact the treasurer for any changes to the members contact information. This spring we adjusted many e-mail addresses, phone numbers and a few mailing addresses in the roster. Members should review their contact information to ensure we have it correct in the clubs records. It's our primary way of contacting you for parties, social events and yes billing. Keep in Touch Keep us up to date with your current e-mail. Please check out the club roster posted at www.richlandyachtclub.com. If your phone number is wrong, we cannot contact you if we have a dock emergency or notice a problem with your boat. Also we send out the yacht talk via emails so if you want the entire latest scoop from the Club, keep the address current. - 6 -
