The trip at a glance DAY 1: CLASSIC CAR TRIP Your transfer from the airport to the hotel will give you a good idea of what to expect in the upcoming days. Your trip will get off to a grand start when you check into Caiammari Resort, a former aristocratic estate. Your heart will start beating even faster when you start the ignition for the first time and drive off in your classic car. DAY 2: ROADS OF YOUR DREAMS TO NOTO AND ITS BAROQUE A fantastic scenario that will make your heart shine ahead of you today. Follow the country's quiet streets through the baroque style and the white stone of Noto's architecture. This small town in the southeast is the heart and at the same time a starting point for a visit to the valley of the Sicilian baroque. The beautiful Val di Noto, a Unesco World Heritage Site, with its artistic and architectural patrimony includes eight late-baroque towns in south-east Sicily, rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake by skilled local architects and sculptors following the artistic canons of the time. The greatest expression of Sicilian baroque, these fascinating towns are characterised by delightful streets, alley ways and steps leading up to aristocratic palaces and majestic churches. Noto, the stone garden, is considered the capital. Rebuilt after the earthquake 10 kilometres from the original site, the town is a masterpiece of baroque. In Modica, the majestic Cathedral of St. George, the architectural symbol of the Val di Noto, dominates the picturesque town and the two valleys. Other baroque treasures can be found in the centres of Ragusa-Ibla, the city of the 50 churches, Scicli, an enchanting town forever in artistic Palazzolo Acreide, Caltagirone and Militello Val di Catania as well as the historic centre of Catania. 04
DAY 3: SIRACUSA AND ORTIGIA ISLAND Siracusa - its thousand-year old history, the Neapolis, Ortygia, the papyrus of the Ciane, its charming and fascinating territories and coasts. Piazza Duomo surrounded by magnificent baroque palaces it is the core of the civil and religious life of Ortygia, the ancient city of Syracuse, a UNESCO heritage. The Cathedral is an exceptional case of mixed architecture: a pagan temple and at the same time a Christian church. Maniace Castle is a true symbol of the power and the genius of Emperor Federico II, who built it upon an ancient fort between 1232 and 1240. Tempio di Apollo the magnificence of these Greek ruins can be immediately noticed when arriving to the small island of Ortygia. In the late evening it is lovely to take a walk along the sea-front promenade of Ortigia Island. Surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea, the seawall that encloses Ortygia provides a romantic route around the island. DAY 4: PALAZZOLO ACREIDE The noble and ancient town gives the impression that the stones have been forged with the help of the wind and bizarre deity creators. Indeed, nearby, in an area called The Santoni, there is a rocky complex dedicated to the worship of goddess Cibele, eastern Phrygian deity identified with the Great Mother. On top of the city you will find the archaeological area of Akrai, founded by the people from Siracusa in 664 BC; there are also a small Greek theater (that hosts classical performances) and other remains of places of worship, tombs, quarries and a decumanus. Starting from Piazza del Popolo you will be fascinated by the immensity of the church of San Sebastiano, rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake; the impressive staircase adds charm to the façade which was built in three orders. During the festival, people cook the cudduri, typical bread bagels with a bay leaf. The Town Hall goes back to the beginning of the twentieth century and it was built in neoclassical and Liberty style.
