Mike Trock MANPOWER Mike Cieczka MARKETING Deb Schulz MEMBERSHIP Paula Modlinski PLANNING Kyle Brunk PUBLIC RELATIONS Barb Mueller Commodore s Comments Now that our Annual meeting is over, and our next Commodore Elect has been named I can focus on accomplishing what all lame duck leaders do, as little as possible. Actually, things couldn t be further from the truth. At our October General Membership Meeting the House and Bar Committee received a request from the membership to investigate the possibility of making our clubhouse smoke-free ahead of the government mandated smoking ban to take effect statewide on July 5th 2010, possibly starting as early as January 1st, 2010. With this request, there are quite a few things to consider: Where will our smoking bar patrons smoke? Will we need to provide a shelter for smokers during the winter months? What will the effect be on our existing hall contracts signed into 2010? Will we see a reduction in bar income as a result? With all of these at large questions, our tremendous House and Bar, Planning and Finance Committees are actively coming up with a proposal for how to potentially implement a smoke-free policy, and timing for making this proposal come together. As you can imagine, with 3 major committees working together to come up with a proposal, it takes a little while to form a comprehensive solution. I have charged these three committees to have a proposal put together for the December General Membership meeting at which point we can have an open discussion on the proposal, and vote on adopting a no-smoking ban as a membership. Stay tuned on this, as you can imagine there is going to be a lot coming together in a short period of time. Our 2010 plans are not just about making arrangements for a smoke-free clubhouse. Our Planning Committee and Finance Committee are working closely together to identify our list of possible improvement projects for 2010 and putting together a budget that will financially allow us to implement those improvements. Look for our 2010 budget to be presented to the membership for approval again at the December General Membership meeting, and include our improvement plans for 2010. We are also in the process of putting the final touches on winterizing the harbor. With water levels up 18 inches above where we were at 2 years ago and 8 inches above where we were a year ago, all piers need to be raised to avoid potential damage due to ice flows and surging in the harbor over the winter months. Remember, if you have a permanent pier assignment, it is your responsibility to either raise your pier, or arrange to have your pier raised. Please contact me if you are unable (physically or otherwise) to raise your pier. If you are currently assigned to a pier that is not raised, and incurs damages during the winter months, you will be held financially responsible for those damages. I would be remised if I didn t mention that with our October elections we have elected yet another great group to represent us in 2010. Your 2010 board has a great mix of veteran board members and some great new young blood that I think we can count on to lead us into the next year, and for years to come. See you down at the Club, Commodore Mike

Wanted: Outboard Motor for the Work Raft We are currently looking for a used long-shaft 10 or 15 horsepower outboard motor that can be used on the work raft in the harbor for working on piers. If you know of anyone looking to sell a motor that meets these specifications, please contact Mike Gengler at mrgengler@hotmail.com via e-mail or by phone at 414.659.9240 Thanks, Mike
