Solignac is known to the pilgrims on the Route Saint Jacques de Compostella for its historical XIIth century abbey and church. Their route passes the picturesque medieval bridge over the Briance and continues in the direction of La Borie and beyond. HISTORY La Borie (Occitan for ox-farm) is an example of a historical large domain for farming and living typical for the Limousin. The castle was built between 1580 and 1634 during the reign of Louis XIII in a late-renaissance style. The first owner was the noble Martial de Maledent, lord of La Borie, treasurer of the king for the Géneralité of Limoges. The Maledent family resided in Limoges. The agricultural domain La Borie provided the family with wood, grain, poultry and meat and was a source of respect and prestige. CONTEMPORARY ART At the end of the XXth century La Borie became a cultural center and its buildings were restored for this purpose. In 2017 the La Borie Gallery was opened: a gallery for contemporary art of an international level that organizes exhibits and a program of lectures, art films and artists talks. In addition, courses on contemporary art are held both for art lovers and collectors. The Limousin is not only known for its meat of the authentic rust-brown cows and its world-famous porcelain, but also for its high density of contemporary art centers spread out in its beautiful surroundings. The first FRAC (Fondation Regional d Art Contemporain) opened in the early 1990 s in Meymac. RENT OF CHATEAU DE LA BORIE: HARMONY BETWEEN HERITAGE, NATURE AND CONTEMPORARY ART 09 The annexes contain the Salle des Lyres and the Salle de Concert which are available throughout the year to organize events at a professional level. The harmony between heritage, nature and contemporary art on the domain La Borie creates an inspiring surrounding for business presentations and meetings, symposia, seminars, parties and weddings. In the castle a total surface of 392 m2 is available spread over 2 levels. The rooms in the castle vary from small and intimate (27 and 38 m2 per room) to several larger rooms (80 m2). The annexes contain the Salle des Lyres (120 m2) and the Salle de Concert (120 m2) which are available throughout the year to organize events at a professional level. Depending on the nature of the event the capacity of the castle and its annexes varies from 15 persons in a charming library to maximally 440 seats. Additional capacity can be created on the domain by installing a party tent. During the outdoor season the gardens, the court and the lime tree field next to the castle offer an excellent site for a reception, an apératif or a dinner.
