Excursion: La Paz Waterfall Gardens in the Central Valley This all-day excursion has been a favorite way to start our retreats in Costa Rica and is included in your retreat fee. Five picturesque waterfalls fed by high-altitude rivers and surrounded by pristine forest on 2.5 miles of hiking trails are found here. A walking tour winds through an aviary, jungle cat exhibit, butterfly and hummingbird exhibits, and more. La Paz rescues and rehabilitates animals taken from their habitat. Only those that can t return to the wild live permanently at the refuge. This excursion includes a fantastic buffet luncheon. The weather around La Paz can be cool around 65º to 75º F. The area receives an average of 14-15 feet of rain per year; a light rain jacket or umbrella is recommended. Excursions at Blue Osa Excursions here are optional and at your own expense. You may choose among the many excursions offered at Blue Osa including hiking in the rain forest with a naturalist guide, kayaking through the mangroves, horseback riding, or bird watching. For the adventurous you may want to do a canopy zip lining tour or waterfall rappelling. Check out the excursions on the Blue Osa website. There is no need to choose until you get there. If you are going to go on a long hike or do waterfall repelling, make sure to bring some tennis shoes. Waterfall Rappelling Nature Hike

It adds 3 nights and 3 breakfasts to your trip. Arrive 1 day early & stay 2 days later for the extension package.
What is the weather like and what should I pack? Late February in San Jose is mild in the 70 s with rain possible. March is warm and dry on the Osa Peninsula just what we need after our cold winter. The temperature will be 80 s up to 90 s. Pack very lightly. Once you do your initial packing, throw half of it out and think even lighter as far as what you need...very light clothing that will dry quickly. Blue Osa is very casual; during the day you may live in your swimsuit or light cover up and sun hat. On your flight from your home to Costa Rica, wear comfortable traveling clothing: a pair of lightweight pants, maybe the convertible type, perhaps a travel sun shirt, sweater layer and a light rain jacket. This will be all you need for the San Jose area excursion.
