Each aonth of the current year has established a new peak in earnings with the total for the half year at $20,356,682, UP 14.6 p.c. compared with $17,755,819 in the same period of 1949. During June total earnings reached $4,563,843 against $4,077,297 one year earlier, an increase of 11.9 p.c. or $486,346 and compare with $3,800,316 in 1948. The level of present earnings is well over 5 times what It was 10 years ago. Scheduled Canadian carriers reported revenues at $3 1 935,027 for Juno against $3,495,871 last year while other Canadian carriers earned $628,816, up from $581,426 in June of 1949 despite fewer operators. Passenger fares produced $2 1 982,453, up nearly 14 p.c. over the preceding June. Mail and freight receipts also improved while charter service rose from $406,992 to $483,576. The increase in expenses continued but was fairly moderate, the total advancing from $3,542,343 to $3,683,456, or 4 p.c. above June, 1949. Traffic expenses rose $54,061 to $378,572 and general administration required $234,144 against $189,415 in the preceding June. Aircraft operation and maintenance took $2,163,994, up only $9,172 while ground expenses at $986,414 compare favourably with $857,098 one year earlier considering the increase in traffic carried. Net operating revenues at $880,387 for the month improved $345,439 over 1949 and compare with $557,010 in June of 1948 and a deficit of $49,551 in June, 1947. As a result, an encouraging profit of $34,765 was shown on the first six months operations this year against a loss of nearly one million dollars last year. Mileage flown on transportation revenue service totalled 3,504,441 milea or 17.6 p.c. more than in June of 1949 when 2,980,757 miles were logged. Hours floyrn on transportation revenue flights were 24,929 against 21,380 hours one year earlier. The number of revenue passengers carried by all lines during June totalled 145,808 compared with 125,603, a gain of 20 9 205 over the same month of 1949. Scheduled Canadian carriers carried over 100,000 revenue passengers in one month for the first time in Aviation history - the total at 102,777 against 86,857 in June, 1949. Revenue passenger mileage rose to a record 47,268,952 miles, including international routes, or some 6,500,000 miles more than recorded for the preceding Juno. Average journey incrersed about 7 miles to nearly 331 miles. Unused seat space was higher on both Canadian and foreign scheduled service. All freight or goods carried weighed 4,336,612 pounds for June, up from 3,530,850 pounds one year earlier. Sizeable gains were shown in charter and contract flights to serve the mining districts and with some movement In connection with the Manitoba and Fraser Valley floods. Total goods ton miles reached 650,232 against 574,271 ton miles in the preceding June and 510,530 of the current month's total were on revenue service compared with 446,644 ton miles one year earlier. Mail weight and ton miles registered minor increases. Economies were shown in salary and wage payments during June with 6,502 employees receiving $1 0620,905 compared with 6,709 employees earning $1,621,109 in the previous June. Aircraft averaged 462 or 12 more than one year ago. Gasoline and oil consunption were heavier to total 2,033,988 gallons and 26,567 gallons respectivejy compared with 1,716,391 and 21,012 gallons in June, 1949.
