A Message from our National President Maureen Egan Public Liability Insurance Dear Members in Australia and New Zealand. BASA A has been focused on trying to secure member benefits as a reward for being a valued member of our Association. We have tried many companies but we were always told we did not have enough members to make it worthwhile. Well the tide has changed and I am pleased to announce we have secured a group discount for Public Liability. The BASA Public Liability Policy will be covered with Chubb Insurance and organized through Sydney Brokers Scott and Broad. There will be three tiers of cover:- Retail/partyhire/florists $595.00 Decorators $450.00 Twisters $195.00 For those businesses that cover all three areas the most you will pay is $595.00 These prices include gst, stamp duty and a small brokers fee. The saving per business will vary but I have saved $1200.00 personally. All members who take this up will have a group policy number which will be the same for everyone but you will all have an individual policy with cover of $20mil each. I am hoping to have a link on the BASA website by the 1 st of July which will ask some basic questions which will go straight to the broker and then you will be contacted. If you are happy to proceed with the policy you will be required to pay by credit card and a Certificate of Compliance will be issued immediately. All members will be issued with a BASA membership number which will be used by Scott and Broad to confirm financial members. This will roll out on a pro-rata basis until such time as all renewals are due at the same time. Please do your homework but I m sure there will be a saving for everyone. The policy at this stage will not cover those businesses that supply jumping castles nor can we provide cover for our supplier members as their requirements are a little more complex. However if we have a significant number of members change-over we will then have an opportunity for group discounts on all other insurances Scott and Broad will not be actively trying to get your other business unless you ask them for a quote and I have been told that if that is the case they will provide the very best offer they canvas as an incentive for members. Please feel free to call me any time if you have any questions or concerns. The only other country that offers this benefit to members is the UK. The success of this will determine what we can do in the future to secure additional benefits for you. Kind Regards, Maureen Maureen Egan Accredited Balloon Artist Balloon Elegance President BASA NSW President BASA Australasia Page 3

Convention Memories A number of our new members have been interested in the history of BASA and in particular the Australian Balloon Conventions. So in order to answer those questions I have called on the memories of our Honorary Life Members, because they were really at the forefront of the beginning of our industry in Australia. Although not a BASA initiated event, the first high profile training session we have evidence of was when the Qualatex Distributor, Tony Martin in 1991, organised Rocky Toomey from Hawaii to be the featured presenter at the Carlton Crest Hotel in Melbourne. Rocky and business partner Jamie Jeffryes constructed a formula 1 racing car. Margie Monk (BASA A Honorary Life Member) has advised that; the Grand Prix Car was supported with promotion, posters & info by Australian Grand Prix CEO Mal Hemmerling... Grand Prix was at that time in Adelaide, but as you may know events like Olympics, Commonwealth Games, GP etc are protected by law... name and logo cannot be used without permission... this permission was at the request of BDDASA (Balloon Balloonews2014 Design & Decorators Assn of SA... Before it became part of BASA-A). From then; The Australian Balloon Industry Conventions have been 1993... Melbourne...Balloon Update 93 1995... Adelaide... Titanic 1997...
