Bernie s Buzz Thank you for all the Rotarians for their words of comfort and prayers for my daughter Bridie. She is receiving chemo and seems to be responding well and hopes to be home by the end of next week. At last week s meeting we welcomed new member Mark Freudenstein who will be a great asset to Rotary and we look forward to allocating him to a committee. Our guest speaker Sam Birrell who is the CEO for the Committee for Greater Shepparton spoke on Shepparton and District and his involvement in progressing the retail and farming sectors. The members found him to be very informative and appreciated his attendance. Our fund raising raffle this year will be family focused. The first prize will comprise a $2000 travel voucher from Lyn McNaught Travel. The second prize will be a set of three travel cases valued at $700. We are in contact with accommodation providers in Melbourne for the third prize and we would appreciate input from members as to other possible venues. Regretfully David Routledge announced that due to failing health he will be relocating to Sydney in the new Year. Richard McGeehan has organised a send off to be held at The Flour Mill on 11 th January 2019. More details to follow. Please advise your wives and partners of this forthcoming social evening. Could all members indicate by next meeting if they will be attending the Xmas Party at Bernie and Ronnie s home as we will need to advise Bibby. Thursday Night s Meeting Sam Birell, the CEO of the Committee for Greater Shepparton, entertained our membership with talk on Thursday night. Sam grew up in Murchison and then went onto Assumption College, working in the Horticulture business in Shepparton for 8 years following school. Sam then did an Agriculture Science Degree through Melbourne University. He has now completed an MBA through the La Trobe University. Sam has an outstanding history of community involvement, previously acting in the role of Chair for the Shepparton Festival, currently the chair of the Fairley Leadership Program and sitting on both the La Trobe University Regional Advisory Board and the newly appointed Goulburn Murray Water Strategic Advisory Committee.

Over 100 businesses make up the Membership of the Committee for Greater Shepparton. The following pillars of the committee seek to advance the community of Shepparton: Productivity, to look at the economic development of the area and to ensure the continuance of the Murray Darling plan, Connected Community, which, in part, looks at the lack of rail services in the town, Creative Community, the development of the arts and the preforming arts, and Inclusiveness, to address the social disadvantage in the community. Sam reports that the committee has been relatively successful and works with anyone with a good idea in the community! President Bernie welcomes Sam Birrell, chair, Michael Tehan is also pictured President Bernie officially welcomes Mark to our Club We all welcome new member Mark F, inducted at this week s meeting, We all looking forward to getting to know Mark.
