LIST OF BENEFICIARIES OF THE CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION PROGRAMME POLAND-SLOVAK REPUBLIC 2007-2013 SHORT DESCRIPTIONS OF PROJECTS CO-FINANCED BY THE EUROPEAN UNION PRIORITY AXIS I DEVELOPMENT OF CROSS-BORDER INFRASTRUCTURE SUBJECT 2 ENVIRONMENTAL INFRASTRUCTURE TOWN AND HEALTH RESORT OF MUSZYNA (PL) Association of Municipalities of the Mincol Microregion Protecting the basin of the border river of Poprad through joint water and sewage system project implemented by Town and Health Resort of Muszyna and the Association of Municipalities of the Mincol Microregion 1 646 973,19 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.07.2009-31.12.2010) WTSL.01.02.00-12-042/08 Project description: Water courses from both towns taking part in, that is Muszyna on the Polish side of the border and Čirč on the Slovak side, flow into the border River of Poprad. Thus s was especially important as part of efforts aiming at improving the water quality in the Poprad River, enhancing the possibility of using the river as tourist attraction, as well as protection of invaluable scenic values. Water and sewage systems were built in the areas of both municipalities, which so far were devoid of sewerage. Additionally, a sewage treatment plant was built in Čirč, on the Slovak side of the border.

REGIONAL OFFICE OF THE POLISH STATE FORESTS IN KATOWICE (PL) Project Partners: 1) State enterprise Forests of the Slovak Republic Banská Bystrica 2) Stara Bystrzyca Municipality 3) Jeleśnia Forest Inspectorate 4) Ujsoły Forest Inspectorate 5) Wisła Forest Inspectorate Revitalisation of the Beskyd Mountains forests on the Polish-Slovak border in order to enhance their social, environmental and flood prevention functions 4 789 805,25 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.01.2009-31.12.2011) WTSL.01.02.00-24-002/08 Project description: Mountain forests play a special role in the ecosystem. They protect the soil from erosion, store large amounts of water slowing its flow, alleviating floods and climate. Mountain forests are home to numerous species of flora and fauna, including some of the rare and endangered species (NATURE 2000). Forests also are one of the favourite places to rest and relax. The aim of was to rejuvenate and diversify the forest stands to make them less vulnerable to pernicious factors in the future. Main activities in concentrated on new cultivations (more than 11 million saplings) to preserve and protect the rich natural heritage on both sides of the border, as well as the retention, soil protection, anti-flood and climate functions of the forest. Additionally a cross-border hiking and education trail, The Beskyd Mountains Green Trail, with information boards in two languages was marked out. REGIONAL WATER MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY IN KRAKOW (PL) The Slovak Water Management Authority the Zilina Regional Centre Development of the PLUSK data-processing system for the joint Polish and Slovak border waters for the needs of the Water Framework Directive and the Floods Directive (according to final 1 551 948,77 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.07.2009-30.09.2011) WTSL.01.02.00-12-052/08 Project description: The main aim of was creating the ultimate conditions for shaping and monitoring the common water policy in the border region, thus improving the quality of waters and ensuring better protection against floods. The main product of is a specialized joint information system to support management of water resources, as well as state water policies. The system encompasses the Polish-Slovak border region water catchment area in its natural hydrographic borders. It offers modern tools and, by gathering various data in one place allows for them to be processed to obtain desired information.

SLOVAK ORNITHOLOGICAL SOCIETY/BIRDLIFE SLOVAKIA Foundation for Support of Environmental Initiatives (PL) Protection of endangered bird species in the Western Carpathians ERDF co-financing the project final 618 848,10 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.07.2009 30.09.2014) WTSL.01.02.00-00-126/08 Project description: The main aim of was boosting the local diversity through protection of 25 selected, endangered bird species included in Nature 2000 guidelines. Special protective zones were created in the area of existing nests, and nests, which were unstable or damaged were fixed in order to decrease hatching losses. Artificial nests were constructed for species for which there are no adequate number of natural nesting places. To increase the social awareness of nature protection, environmental education classes, workshops, lectures were conducted, and numerous publications related to birds of the cross-border region were issued. LÚČKA MUNICIPALITY (SK) Town and Municipality of Piwniczna Zdrój Construction of the sewerage system in border villages of Lúčka and Głębokie (according to final 1 946 321,75 PROJECT COMPLETED ( 01.07.2009 31.07.2011) WTSL.01.02.00-84-125/08 Project description: The main aim of was improvement of the natural environment protection infrastructure. In both municipalities involved in sewage systems were built, and connected to the already existing infrastructure. All together, on both sides of the border more than 6,5km of the sewage systems were built.

ŚWINNA MUNICIPALITY (PL) Rabča Municipality (SK) Water and sewage system construction in the municipalities of Swinna (PL) and Rabca (SK) in order to ameliorate the environmental conditions in the border region (according to final 2 109 606,78 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.09.2008-31.03.2011) WTSL.01.02.00-24-022/08 Project description: The main aim of was to construct water and sewage systems in Swinna and Rabca Municipalities to be connected to the already existing systems. The project was part of joint efforts of the two municipalities to improve the state of the natural environment in the Polish-Slovak border area. TOWN AND MUNICIPALITY OF PIWNICZNA ZDRÓJ (PL) Forbasy (SK) Construction of sewerage systems in the Poprad River Basin towns of Wierchomla (PL) and Forbasy (SK) (according to final 2 078 640,14 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.04.2009-30.06.2011) WTSL.01.01.00-12-025/08 Project description: The main idea of was protection of natural environment along the Poprad River in Poland and Slovakia. Main activities of concentrated around construction of sewage systems in towns of Wierchomla and Forbasy located in the Poprad River basin. Currently almost 70% of sewage from the towns reach the Poprad River. In Wierchomla, on the Polish side of the border a modern sewage treatment plant was erected. On both sides of the border almost 7 kilometres of the sewage system was built.

ŁABOWA MUNICIPALITY (PL) Jarabina Municipality (SK) Reduction of the pollution of the Dunajec Rivers and its tributaries through construction of water and sewage systems in Kamianna and Jarabina villages PROJECT COMPLETED (01.07.2009-31.07.2011) WTSL.01.02.00-12-060/08 1 362 931,01 JABŁONKA MUNICIPALITY (PL) Project description: Towns and villages situated in the Poprad and Dunajec Rivers basins try to guarantee natural environment that would attract even more tourists looking for some peace and quiet in the beautiful scenery of the rivers banks. To make the rivers waters cleaner further sections of water and sewage system in Jarabina village was constructed. In Kamianna more than 6 kilometres of sewage system, as well as a modern waste treatment plant were built to serve both households and tourist holiday camps/centres. As the result of the investment less waste will reach the Biała River, a tributary of the Dunajec River. Town of Trstena (SK) Improving the water purity in the Orava region rivers - the Black Orava, Orava and Oravica Rivers as well as the Orava Reservoir (according to final report) : 3 603 372,98 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.11.2008-28.02.2011) WTSL.01.02.00-12-017/08 Project description: The main idea of was to provide the Orava region with clean natural environment to unable its sustained development. Main activities in included construction of the modern waste treatment plant in Podwilk (PL), construction of water and sewage system in Jabłonka Matonogi Góra village (stages III and IV), as well as construction of water and sewage system in Trstena (SK). Due to the terrain, almost all surface waters from the Polish side flow to the Slovak side of the border, thus the elimination of waste on the Polish side of the border has a direct influence on the quality of environment on the Slovak side.

JABŁONKA MUNICIPALITY (PL) Town of Trstena (SK) PROJECT COMPLETED (01.01.2011-30.06.2014) WTSL.01.02.00-12-179/10 Protecting waters of the Orava region in the Nature 2000 areas through construction of sewage systems in Podwilk and Chyżne villages(pl) and in Trstena (SK) : 2 505 037,41 LIPNICA WIELKA MUNICIPALITY (PL) Project description: The project complimented Improving the water purity in the Orava region rivers - the Black Orava, Orava and Oravica Rivers as well as the Orava Reservoir. Three main investments were conducted: construction of sewage system and waste treatment plant in Chyżne PL (stage 1), construction of water and sewage system in Podwilk village PL (stage II) and construction of drainage system in Trstena (SK). Štefanov nad Oravou Municipality (SK) Amelioration of the natural environment through building municipal infrastructure in the Polish Slovak border region municipalities of Lipnica Wielka (PL) and Stefanov (SK) 2 480 804,53 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.07.2011-30.06.2013) WTSL.01.02.00-12-166/10 Project description: The aim of was to ameliorate the natural environment by improving the water and sewage utilities in both townships which would improve protection of the Slovak Orava River against living waste pollution. As a result more than 21 km of the water and sewage system was constructed and two waste treatment plants were built. The project gains a special importance in the light of the fact, that the Orava Reservoir is not only an important Slovak sports and recreation centre, but also home to many species of migrating birds.

ZARSZYN MUNICIPALITY (PL) Pakostov Municipality (SK) Partnership to develop water and sewage systems in Zarszyn and Pakostov Municipalities (according to final 2 808 289,79 PROJECT COMPLETED ( 01.07.2011 30.04.2013) WTSL.01.02.00-18-201/10 Project description: The aim of was to develop the sewage systems in municipalities of Zarszyn and Pakostov in the Polish-Slovak border area so as to help to create adequate conditions for the sustainable social and economic development of the borderland. On the Polish side of the border the sewage system was built in Odrzechowa township, while on the Slovak side the sewage system as well as the waste treatment plant were built in Pakostov. All together more than 25km of water and sewage system were constructed. TOWN OF TRSTENA (SK) Jabłonka Municipality (PL) Protection against natural disasters and floods in the border region of Upper Orava 950 154,57 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.09.2012 31.12.2014) WTSL.01.02.00-82-168/10 Project description: Investments and activities in aimed at increasing the abilities of the regional firemen to respond to natural disasters quickly and effectively, increasing the cooperation in emergencies. As part of the fire station in Trstena was modernised, and the Polish partner acquired a modern fire and rescue engine. Also joint trainings for firemen were conducted.

ŁABOWA MUNICIPALITY (PL) Reduction of the pollution of the Jarabina Municipality (SK) Dunajec Rivers and its tributaries through construction of water and sewage systems in Łabowa and Jarabina villages PROJECT COMPLETED (01.10.2011 31.12.2014) WTSL.01.02.00-12-182/10 ERDF co-financing: 1 746 419,57 Project description: The aim of was to improve the water and sewage systems in towns on both sides of the border, and, as the result, to protect the Poprad and Dujec Rivers from household waste. As part of the project the existing sewage treatment plant in Łabowa was further developed, and the sewage system together with pumping stations was constructed. In Jarabina, on the Slovak side of the border the construction of the sewage system was completed, and the village was connected to the sewage treatment plant in Stara Lubovna. HABOVKA MUNICIPALITY (SK) Joint prevention, coordination of Czarny Dunajec Municipality (PL) activities and readiness for the successful fire protection of both the environment and the citizens of the border regions of Habovka and Czarny Dunajec PROJECT COMPLETED (01.08.2013 31.12.2014) WTSL.01.02.00-82-317/10 (according to final 435 571,60 Project description: The project aimed at implementing the successful system of prevention and protection of the border region against the natural disasters, especially fire. As part of the necessary infrastructure and equipment for firemen on both sides of the border was provided. In Habovka on the Slovak side of the border a fire station was built. On the Polish side, the existing fire station in Czarny Dunajec was modernised. Firemen on both sides of the border got new, modern fire engines. Joints fire trainings as well as educational activities at schools were organised.

TOWN AND MUNICIPALITY OF SZCZAWNICA (PL) Town of Spisska Bela (SK) PROJECT COMPLETED (01.01.2011-31.12.2014) WTSL.01.02.00-12-148/10 Development of the water and sewage system of Szczawnica and Spisska Bela, as an element of protection of the environment and creating a joint tourist offer 1 057 997,40 TOWN AND HEALTH RESORT OF MUSZYNA (PL) Project description: The aim of was to upgrade water and sewage systems in both towns, increase protection of two cross-border rivers, namely Dunajec and its tributary Poprad, and thus increase the attractiveness of both towns for tourists. As part of all together more than 4 km of water and sewage system were constructed. Association of Municipalities of the Mincol Microregion Protecting the basin of the border river of Poprad through joint water and sewage system project implemented by Town and Health Resort of Muszyna and the Association of Municipalities of the Mincol Microregion Phase II 968 105,01 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.06.2011 31.12.2014) WTSL.01.02.00-12-150/10 Project description: Water courses from both towns taking part in, that is Muszyna on the Polish side of the border and Čirč on the Slovak side, flow into the border River of Poprad. Thus s was especially important as part of efforts aiming at improving the water quality in the Poprad River, enhancing the possibility of using the river as tourist attraction, as well as protection of invaluable scenic values. Additionally replacement of the old-type concrete-mineral flax pipes in Muszyna removed the health dangers connected with the use of the outdated technology on one hand, and on the other, guaranteed the continuous flow of water, with no outages. After completion of most of buildings in Čirč on the Slovak side of the border are connected to the water and sewage system, while in Muszyna, on the Polish side of the border, the system covers almost 100% of the municipality.

UJSOŁY MUNICIPALITY (PL) Novot Municipality PROJECT COMPLETED (01.05.2014-31.12.2014) WTSL.01.02.00-24-188/10 Developing the fire protection system of the Polish Slovak border region, in Ujsoły and Novot Municipalities 250 349,57 Project description: The project focused on protection of the border-region forests as well as inhabitants and tourists. As part of the investment the building of the fire-fighters in Novot Municipality on the Slovak side of the border was modernised. The Polish partner acquired a professional and fully equipped fire vehicle. Joint trainings for firemen from both sides of the border were conducted, and a joint system of communication in crisis situations was developed. RAJCZA MUNICIPALITY (PL) Oščadnica Municipality (SK) Construction of flood-protection infrastructure in Rajcza and Oščadnica Municipalities 1 222 140,93 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.01.2014 30,.09.2015) WTSL.01.02.00-24-288/10 Project description: The project was focused on flood-protection to improve the environmental situation in municipalities on both sides of the border. In Rajcza Municipality on the Polish side of the border both sides of the Rycerka brook were reinforced and developed, so as to be used both in summer (a swimming pool) and winter (water from the brook is to be used for making snow for the local skiing hills). In Oščadnica Municipality on the Slovak side of the border the sides of the Dedowka brook were reinforced to protect it from flooding.

STRYSZAWA MUNICIPALITY (PL) Project Partners: 1) Kotrčiná Lúčka Municipality (SK) 2) Brzeźnica Municipality (PL) Improving the quality of the environmental infrastructure 853 370,59 PROJECT COMPLETED (01.01.2011 30.09.2015) WTSL.01.02.00-12-177/10 Project description: Partner municipalities on both sides of the border face the same environmental challenges stemming from the Lack of proper infrastructure as well as low level of ecological awareness of local inhabitants. It is the more important as all the partner municipalities are located in the region rich in natural heritage, which has to be protected. Thus focused on both expanding and modernising the local water systems and educating the society on environment protection and the cross-border cooperation.
