Austria - Italy - Innsbruck to Verona-Venice Bike Tour 2019 Individual Self-Guided 7 days / 6 nights OR 10 days / 9 nights A wonderful bike tour starting from the Austrian border at Brennero Pass: you ll cycle downhill through ancient villages, forts and green meadows of South Tyrol. Riding along the Adige River you ll reach the Veneto region, with a stop at the palm lined shores of Lake Garda and then Verona, the town of Romeo & Juliet, with its impressive Roman arena and then Vicenza, renowned for the classical Palladio architecture. Further on you will reach the Euganean Hills and their renowned thermal district, the largest in Europe. Beautiful Padua, cradle of arts, will open the way to the Venetian Lagoon, where the timeless fascination of Venice has lured passersby for centuries (and still does).
Itinerary Day to Day 7 day / 6 night option Day 1: Innsbruck Individual arrival Day 2: Innsbruck Bressanone 55 km by bike + 40 km transfer A private transfer takes you to Brennero, where you start cycling into the green Isarco valley. Your ride continues without difficulties through nice villages and green meadows till Fortezza, where you will see the ancient fort. Lake Varna awaits you for a relaxing break before Bressanone. Day 3: Bressanone Bolzano 45 km Continue along the same cycle path, with few kilometers today: you ll have the opportunity to visit the huge Sabiona medieval monastery, built on a rocky hill and dominating the Isarco valley. Day 4: Bolzano Trento 65-70 km You will ride along the Adige River, through orchards and vineyards, passing the villages of Ora, Egna and Salorno. The dam pathways lead then to Trento. Day 5: Trento Desenzano/Peschiera 50 km by bike + ferry Always pedaling along the Adige you reach Rovereto and Mori. After a short ascent, a refreshing descent will lead you to Torbole and to Riva. The ferry cruise takes you to the southern part of the lake. Day 6: Desenzano/Peschiera Verona 60 or 35 km Today you head to Verona. Worth visiting are: the Roman Arena, the Church of San Zeno and Juliet s House. Day 7: Verona. Departure after breakfast
10 day / 9 night option Day 7: Verona Vicenza 75 or 40 km Cycling in the countryside at the foot of Mounts Lessini, among the vineyards you will reach the castle of Soave. Further on the fortress of Brendola will show you the way to the Berici hills and to Vicenza. The old city center is characterized by the beautiful private palaces and public buildings by Andrea Palladio, the famous 16th century architect known all over the world. It is possible to shorten the stage by taking the train in San Bonifacio. Day 8: Vicenza Padova thermal district 50 km Cycling out of Vicenza, along the cycle path of the river Bacchiglione, you can admire the Palladian masterpiece Villa La Rotonda and the frescoes of Tiepolo at Villa Valmarana (entrance included). Then, past the hamlet of Montegalda, you will head towards the Euganean Hills, where you can relax in a resort of the largest European thermal district. Day 9: Padova thermal district Mestre/Venice 55 km Along the cycle path of the Battaglia Canal you will pass through Padua, home to one of the oldest Italian (and European) universities and rich in art and history. From here, along the Piovego Canal, you will reach Stra and will follow the Brenta Canal, overlooked by the countryside villas of the ancient Venetian nobility (Villa Pisani, Villa Malcontenta, Villa Widmann) until you reach Mestre, Venice mainland. You can choose to overnight in Venice with a supplement. Please note that in Venice (apart from Piazzale Roma and train station Santa Lucia) it is forbidden to cycle, and also to push your bike by hand. Day 10: Mestre/Venice Departure after breakfast
Route Technical Characteristics: Route Profile: The itinerary is mainly on one of the most beautiful cycle path in Italy. Continuing from Lake Garda to Venice the itinerary is developed riding on secondary streets with low traffic. 95 % asphalt, 5 % unpaved. Train connection among the overnight stays available every day. Possibility to shorten the itinerary by taking the train in day 3, 4, 5 and 7.
