Travelling by Car There is on street parking available around the perimeter of Alexandra Park but be aware that some of these have time restrictions in place. Travelling by Bus Hastings and St Leonards on Sea are served by the Stagecoach bus company, who run regular services from nearby towns and villages. From Hastings train station you can take the 26A or 2 bus to Alexandra Park. There is a free car park at the Hospice. COLLECTING PACKS FOR OTHERS: You will be able to collect for a friend, but only if they provide you with their ticket. If you have mislaid your ticket you will still be able to collect your pack simply email colourthecoast@stmichaelshospice.com and we can assist you. We strongly recommend you collect your race pack on one of the dates listed above. If you are unable to collect your race pack prior to the event, please visit the Hospice s gazebo at the start/finish line area between 9.30am - 10.15am on the day. Travelling by Train There are regular services from London, Brighton and Ashford International that also stop at towns such as Rye, Bexhill and Battle. Alexandra Park is located approximately 15 minutes walk from Hastings train station. Taxis are available outside Hastings train station. Colour the Coast is a wheelchair friendly event, however the route this year does have some hills/slight inclines. Please see the route map at the end of this race guide for details of a diversion that can be taken to avoid some of the inclines. If you have any questions please contact colourthecoast@stmichaelshospice.com.

THE COURSE: Colour the Coast sees us running/walking 5km through the three beautiful sections of Alexandra Park. You will start in the first park on the green nearest Dordrecht Way. You then make your way to the main entrance at the bottom of the park, where you will loop round and head back to Dordrecht Way, cross the (closed) road and enter the second park. You then slope upwards in to the third part of the park, past the playground, around the top lake and back down towards the two reservoirs, and back in to the second park. Here you will run past the miniature railway, up to the man-made reservoir before looping back round, past the tennis courts and eventually back to the start/finish line - just in time for the party! Water: Hungry Hog Catering are kindly providing free water for each participant, which you can pick up at the finish line, next to their catering van. You are also encouraged to bring your own or buy bottles which will be available from 10am. Remember, it could be a very hot day so it s important to stay hydrated. Cameras: We suggest you think about wrapping your camera and phone in cling film before entering this event. The fine powder may cause damage, so use at your own risk. Rules and Safety 1. Be aware of pedestrians and cyclists at all times. Colour the Coast takes place on public land and is open to the public during the entire event. Be aware of people around you and remember that this is not a timed race 2. If you are running with small children please watch and direct them through the event (we recommend writing your name and mobile number on the inside of their t-shirt) 4. Please feel free to wear glasses, a bandana, dust mask or similar. We will have a merchandise stall on the day so you can buy neon sunglasses, visors, head and sweat bands, face paints, whistles and additional packs of coloured powder. All profits from these sales go directly to the Hospice. All merchandise will be available to buy at race pack collection dates. 5. Should you have any difficulties whilst on the course or during the finish line party please notify a member of staff or marshal 6. No pets please leave your pets at home even if you think they would look cute multi-coloured 7. Please follow the directions of staff and marshals at all times 8. Only use your packets of powder at the finish line party, and not along the route 9. You will receive a coloured wristband, as chosen by you, in your race pack. This is simply to enable us to stagger the start of the fun run 10. HAVE FUN!

COLOUR ZONES You will pass through five colour zones on the course: orange, blue, pink and green and rainbow Colour the Coast uses only the safest powder available and it is 100% biodegradable and non-toxic. It is food grade corn-starch and although edible, it will taste horrible so please don t try We recommend participants wear glasses or goggles for their comfort and even a bandana. There will be a merchandise stall on the day so you can buy neon sunglasses, visors, head and sweat bands, whistle, face paints and packs of coloured powder. All profits from these sales will go to the Hospice. All merchandise will be available to buy at race pack collection dates. Our Cheery Chuckers will try and aim the powder below head height at all times THE START There will be a staggered start to minimise the chance of congestion or injuries at the colour zones. You will receive a coloured wristband in your pack, which will relate to your start time There is no need to check in on race day if you have already collected your pack You may enter the warm-up area at any time after 9.30am, however you must be wearing your Colour the Coast 2017 t-shirt We recommend you start with a bottle of water, especially on a hot day Be aware that we will have up to 2,000 people running throughout the park. We promise to do our very best to keep things moving but we ask for your patience and to simply enjoy the music while you wait. Please keep moving through the Colour Zones slowing down too much or stopping will create bottle necks. 9.30am Registration opens 10.15am Warm-up party 10.30am Race starts 11.30am Cool down begins 12pm After party 2pm Event ends

TIME TO PARTY! FINISH LINE PARTY Once you cross the finish line feel free to stay and support your fellow runners as they cross the finish line There will be a sales kiosk at the side of the stage where you can buy extra powder at 2 for 1 packet or 3 packets for 5. There will also be additional items available. Please note we can only accept cash. The sales kiosk will close at 1:45pm We ask that you use all powder on site. Hastings Borough Council have given permission for on-site use only Remember to save some powder for our Colour Clouds that will happen approximately every 20 minutes YOU WILL NOT WANT TO MISS THESE! There will be music between 10pm - 2pm Toilets can be found a few metres from the finish line party. There are also a couple along the route (see map). VALUABLES Please do not bring them; hopefully you would have collected your race pack prior to the day which includes everything you will need to bring on the day. Other than some cash for extra powder and refreshments we do not recommend you bring anything else. There are no bag drop facilities available. FOOD AND DRINK Hungry Hog Catering will have a hog roast, BBQ, soft drinks and children s treats available at the finish line. 20% of their takings will be kindly donated to the Hospice. LOST KIDS AND PROPERTY The Hospice Hub will be where you can report and find lost children and property. This can be found at the finish line party. Simply look for the St Michael s Hospice banner. You can also make any member of staff or security aware. St Michael s Hospice staff will be wearing purple t-shirts. TIPS FOR PARENTS: We advise you write your name and phone number on your child s t-shirt label in case your child gets lost. FIRST AID St John Ambulance will be positioned at the finish line party at all times. There are also first aiders along the route of the course, as well as at colour zones. If you get into trouble please make a staff member or volunteer aware so they can radio for assistance.

PREPARATION Oil your hair this will help the colour to wash out (take note blondes!). We recommend that you leave in a little conditioner, coconut oil or something similar GETTING CLEAN AFTERWARDS Dust off as much of the dry powder as you can before adding water Wash your hair anti dandruff shampoo works best Cover up be imaginative! Wear a wig or colourful bandana. Alternatively, you could purchase a neon visor, sunglasses or even a headband/sweatband combo from the sales kiosk on the day. All profits from these sales go to the Hospice. All merchandise is available to buy at race pack collection dates. When you get home shower as normal, add baking soda to your body wash to remove stubborn spots, but be warned, you will still be finding blue in your ears for weeks after the event! Clothing washing separately in cold water works best. Cover your seats place an old towel in your car before you leave the house, ready for the journey home. Bin bags also work just as well Wear sun lotion! not only will it protect you from getting burnt on the day, but it will help the colour stick to you along the route, as well as making it easier for you to clean it off Cover your eyes wear glasses, goggles or something similar. This will avoid irritation and remember we will have neon glasses for sale on the day Leave your favourite clothes at home! although the colour will eventually wash out of almost everything we suggest you leave your expensive shorts and trainers at home (just in case). We strongly recommend you collect your race pack for this event on one of the dates set out earlier for your own convenience. If you are unable to collect your race pack prior to the event, please visit our registration desk at the St Michael s Hospice gazebo at the start/finish line area. 9.30am - 10.15am Sunday 13th August 2017 Proudly sponsored by Registered charity number: 288462
