Dress code for the presenters at the seminar is business casual. We will be walking as a group between locations so it is recommended that you also bring comfortable shoes. SOCIAL MEDIA Fulbright Finland (@FulbrightFIN) will be tweeting during the seminar and using the hashtag #AmVoices2017. Feel free to pitch in with your posts and photos on social media! GROUP PHOTO A group photo will be taken of all the grantees during the weekend. Exact time will be announced during the seminar. WIFI The University of Turku offers a campus-wide wifi connection for visitors. Please refer to instructions on how to access the connection at: http://www.utu.fi/en/unit/university-services/it-services/wireless%20networks/pages/home.aspx FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6 ARRIVAL In order to have enough time to stop by your accommodations before the start of the debriefing session, we recommend that you arrive at the latest on the following trains (please also check the arrival information on your accommodations, which may affect how much time you need to reserve for your arrival): Train from Helsinki arriving in Turku at 10:30 Trains from Tampere and Jyväskylä arriving in Turku at 10:50 Trains from Lappeenranta arriving in Turku at 11:30 Remember to check also Onnibus or Matkahuolto for bus connections to Turku! Karoliina Kokko from Fulbright Finland and Heidi Saarinen from University of Turku will be waiting at the Turku Main Railway Station at 10:30 to help you locate your accommodation and answer any last-minute questions. If you have questions about your arrival in Turku, please let us know! Students, please remember to use your student discount when purchasing your train ticket. If you would like to walk to your accommodations: The walk from Kupittaa train station is approximately 1 km to Guesthouse Villa Hortus (Horttokuja 3, 20500 Turku) The walk from Main Railway Station is approximately 0,5 km to Omenahotel (Humalistonkatu 7, 20100 Turku) and 1,5 km to Scandic Julia (Eerikinkatu 4, 20100 Turku). The walk from Holiday Club Caribia (stop for Onnibus) is approximately 1,2 km to Villa Hortus. Many Onnibus coaches stop also at the Main Bus Station the walk to Omenahotel is approximately 1 km and to Scandic Julia 700 meters.

If you are accommodated at Hotel Scandic Julia: The check-in desk is located on the second floor at the end of the escalators. The check-in time is at 2 pm, but luggage can be left at the hotel in the morning. The reception desk is open 24h so you can check in when you go back to the hotel in the evening. The front door closes late in the evening, but you can enter the hotel by ringing the bell. If you are staying for additional nights at your own expense, please make sure you pay any out-of-pocket costs during checkin. Please note that on the day of your departure, you should remove your luggage from your room by 12 pm. If you are accommodated at Omenahotel: A pin-code for the hotel door and your room will be given at the seminar. You can check in from 4pm onwards. Please note that on the day of your departure, you should remove your luggage from your room by 12 pm. Omenahotels are self-service hotels with no 24h reception present in the building. However, you can contact the customer service directly in problem situations by calling +358 600 555 222. The customer service is open 24h. Please note there is not space available for storing your luggage, therefore either pack light or leave your luggage in storage at the Turku Main Railway Station (closes 9.30 pm). You will get your key or pin-code from Heidi before briefing. If you are accommodated at Villa Hortus: The office at Hortus opens at 9:00, closes for lunch at 11:00 and reopens at noon. The office doorbell is around the corner from the two wing entrances. Your rooms may not be ready right away, but keys can be collected from the office after lunch at Teini or at the seminar venue in Publicum. Space is available at the accommodations for your luggage. At Villa Hortus, you can use the buzzer to be let in at 9-11 am and 12-2 pm. However, please note that the key to your room may not be available before the start of the seminar program. The code for the door is 7365. If you are staying for additional nights at your own expense or have family members accompanying you, please make sure you pay any out-of-pocket costs by 2 pm. on Friday, as the Villa Hortus office is closed during the weekend. Upon your departure, you can leave your keys in the mailbox found by the A and B wing entrances. There is no set check-out time during the weekend. You will get your key or pin-code from Heidi before briefing. If you take a different train and you have not agreed on special arrangements beforehand with the seminar organizers, you can also take a taxi or public transportation on your own from the station to your accommodations. Please note that unfortunately we cannot reimburse taxi or public transportation expenses. Please note that you will not be able to visit your room during the day s program, so please prepare accordingly. 11:30 Lunch at Restaurant Teini, Uudenmaankatu 1 Everyone will meet at Restaurant Teini for lunch. The lunch buffet is hosted by the organizers for the grantees and family members; drinks and extras are each person s own responsibility.

Grantees staying in Hortus/Omenahotel: Key/Pin-code pick-up with Heidi before briefing. 12:45-13:45 Briefing session for grantees, Publicum 4 The Fulbright team will inform grantees about news, upcoming events, and practicalities that are imperative for you to know. In addition to the briefing session on Friday and debriefing discussion on Saturday morning, your program coordinators as well as Chief Executive Officer Terhi Mölsä will be available throughout the seminar in case you have questions or concerns that you would like to discuss privately. 14:00-17:10 American Voices Seminar presentations at the University of Turku, Publicum (Pub1) Guided walk to Restaurant Svarte Rudolf by Karoliina Kokko through some of the Turku sights. 18:15 Dinner at Svarte Rudolf, Itäinen Rantakatu, River Aura Dinner at the Svarte Rudolf restaurant on a boat moored by the bank of the Aura River. The group will walk together from the university to the restaurant. A buffet menu has been reserved for you. The dinner is hosted by Fulbright Finland for the grantees and family members. Please note that water is included, but other drinks and extras are each person s own responsibility. 20:30 Optional event: Alumni Happy Hour, Restaurant Old Bank (Aurakatu 3) Welcome to the Alumni Happy Hour" to meet and greet with Fulbright Alumni (drinks self-paid)! You will receive a separate invitation from the ASLA-Fulbright Alumni Association with more information about the event. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7 On Saturday morning, please be prepared to check out of your room in the morning. You can still store your luggage at the accommodations (except those who are staying at the Omenahotel). However, depending on your departure schedule, please note that there will not be time for you to fetch your luggage before lunch. 8:45-9:45 Breakfast & Debriefing for Fulbrighters at Naantalin Aurinkoinen (Hämeenkatu 3) Sit down with fellow scholars or students and your program coordinator over breakfast to discuss your experiences in Finland thus far. Please prepare beforehand and make sure you send in topics on what you would like to discuss to Maija before the seminar. In preparation for this session, please come prepared to discuss the following topics: Getting started with your research or studies and working with your host experiences, challenges, tips? Support services and help in practical matters offered by your host university are you satisfied, any suggestions? Are you happy with your accommodations and research or study environment? Settling into Finland making social connections and finding cultural experiences Family life in Finland

Finnish language studies if you have taken courses in Finnish language, what has your experience been like? Did you find a suitable course for you and if so, where? Did it cost something? Other experiences? Your home and host university/department: potential cooperation prospects? Breakfast roll and coffee or tea is provided for the grantees. Please note that space at the café is limited, and family members are asked to have breakfast elsewhere. 10:15-12:40 American Voices Seminar presentations at the University of Turku Everyone will meet in the Publicum building in time for the presentations starting at 10:15 a.m. After the end of the seminar, the group will walk together to the lunch restaurant Turun Upseerikerho. 13:15 Lunch at Turun Upseerikerho, Turku Cabinet The group will walk together to restaurant Upseerikerho (see attached map). The brunch buffet (including water) is hosted by the organizers for the grantees and family members; drinks and extras are each person s own responsibility. AFTER THE SEMINAR The program will end at the latest in time for you to catch the 4 pm train or bus from Turku. Fulbright Finland will reimburse travel costs for the speakers who have purchased their tickets before September 30. Please send your reimbursement claim, including original travel tickets and receipts as well as the Finnish bank account number, to Fulbright Finland by October 17 (Please note that no reimbursement can be made after this date!).
