Catalog200 ' Darley GS SSV Essay

Darley ssv High Production Shears 10' x 10 ga. With more than 40 years of experience in building precision sheet and plate fabricating equipment, Darley offers the "SSV" Shear that combines hydraulic protection with mechanical-type performance. This style of shear was specially developed for those industries that work with material up to 5/16" where ultra-high production is needed. Timesaving, cost-cutting features that boost productivity are offered as standard. The average shop can now afford to have full hydraulic overload protection and controllability without sacrificing cutting speed. Because of Darley's advanced hydraulic technology, the "SSV" Shears equal or surpass cutting speeds previously attainable only with mechanical shears, especially under full load. Darley's "SSV" Shears feature a stress relieved steel weldment design that forms a solid unit. Because of its rugged construction, no special foundation is required. Every part is constructed with strength, reliability and durability in mind. The see-thru finger guard gives full safety protection while enabling the operator to feed material close to the blades, reducing scrap.!!em'j The table is fitted with removable rails, which serves two functions. First, because of the small amount of material drag produced by the rails, feeding of plates is done with less effort than on a solid-type table. Secondly, the support arms may be positioned anywhere by simply removing a rail and positioning the arm in the rail's place. The actual table on all Darley Shears is machined so the adaptation of material feeding units and pingauging arms is quite easy and inexpensive. Sheet clamping is applied by hydraulic hold downs that can be fitted with non-marking pads. The clamping force is applied prior to the movement of the shear beam, and becomes a function of the shear force when the top blade penetrates the material. The hold downs are released immediately before reversal of the shear beam, eliminating blade wipe. "SSV" shears are equipped with a front-operated blade clearance adjustment, which adjusts the blade gap at both ends simultaneously. The dial for the blade clearance adjustment is calibrated in material thickness up to machine capacity. There is no guessing as to which blade clearance is required for the best results with different material thicknesses. Turn the dial to correspond to the plate thickness to be cut and proper blade clearance is assured. Resetting of the blade clearance system is not necessary after regrinding the blades, because of the adjusting block construction of the upper blade holder. The blades supplied with the machine are hi-carbon, hi-chrome and have four cutting edges. The blades are segmented to allow for exchanging the right hand blade with the left hand blade, if most cutting is done with sheets less than 4' on the left hand side. This feature allows working for longer periods of time in some cases, without regrinding the blades. The bottom blade is bolted into the fixed table. The "SSV" is for all material thicknesses up to the shears capacity, not just thick materials. Because of its versatility, the "SSV" can be controlled to meet a wide range of requirements, with maximum results in all material thicknesses. The rake ang le on all "SSV" Shears is easily adjustable to keep bow and twist of narrow strips to a minimum. All "SSV" Shears are set up so that the lowest rake angle is only 1/2. Lowering of the rake wi ll increase strokes per minute dramatically. The 40" front-operated power back gauge features convenient fine tuning by hand. The digital readout allows fast and accurate positioning of the back gauge, drastically reducing set up time and material waste. The material stop is of heavy box construction faced with a thick piece of precision ground, stress relieved steel for lasting accuracy. Limit switches on the front and rear of the back gauge arms prevent gauge jamming or damage to the lead screw. Through Darley's design engineering, down time is kept to a minimum. Maintenance on most machines is a major consideration, but not with the "SSV. " Roller guides permit the knife beam to run with zero clearance, and are greased for life. Since the guides run with zero clearance, perfect blade clearance is maintained, resulting in high quality cuts. Standard equipment consists of: 40" front-operated power back gauge, two-59" front support arms with scales and one-59" squaring arm, variable rake-angle adjustment, stroke length adjustment, front-operated instant blade clearance adjustment, shadow-line lighting, 4- edge hi-carbon hi-chrome blades, selector switch with five operating modes, complete electrics and hydraulics, service set, operation and maintenance manual, machine filled with oil. Wired 220/3ph/60hz. Price for conversion to 440V upon application. 2

Features 1. Contact-switch and emergency stop 2. Light for control circuit 3. Motor start 4. Control light machine in operation 5. Motor stop 6. Control light overloading 7. Cutting length limiter 8. Power operation of back gauge 9. Adjustable dwell time 10. Fine adjustment of back gauge 11. Blade-clearance setting 12. Rake-angle setting 13. Digital reading of back gauge position All Darley "SSV" Shears are equipped with a 5-mode selector switch: 1. Controlled-cutting cycle: the blade carrier returns immediately after releasing the foot pedal. 2. Moment-command: the blade carrier always makes the complete cutting cycle 3. Stroke limitation device: infinitely adjustable zero to maximum cutting length 4. Automatic continuous stroking with infinitely adjustable time delay between strokes 5. A combination of 3 and 4 for unexcelled speed and productivity. Blade "inching." This device allows easy inching down of the top blade for setting clearances after turning or regrinding blades. By depressing the "+ " button, the ram will return to its top position, ready to cycle. Hydraulic control mono-block advantages: -Compact design -Easy exchange of components -"Cartridge" valve system The hydraulic hold downs work independently of each other, so that plates of variable thickness can be held. The pressure of the hold downs is adjusted independently of the cutting pressure, with either thin or thick plates. On the left side of the machine, the hold downs are mounted close together to prevent narrow strips from moving when being cut. Standard on the "SSV" is a 40" front-operated power back gauge with digital readout. The weight of the back gauge hangs on roller guides that run parallel to the lead screw. This prevents jamming and premature wear of the lead screw. One of the keys to the "SSV's" low-maintenance and accuracy is the roller guide assembly used in place of gibbs. The rollers are made of a selflubricating material that requires no clearance. This enables the "SSV" to maintain perfect blade clearance and extreme accuracy in shearing. 3

As an option, the "SSV" Shears can be equipped with either a hydraulic or pneumatic plate support system. The control of this system works so that during the shearing operation, the support arms retract, allowing the cut plate to fall away from the shear. The plate support can be easily switched off at which time, it will move into its neutral and protected position. 1. Motor 2. Coupling 3. Pump 4. Hydraulic control block 5. Left cylinder 6. Darley GS 112" x 10' cap. General The Darley "GS" Shear is proven and functions under all possible situations in the plate working industry. t is famous for its rigidity, simplicity and its most important advantage, reliability! The swing beam system allows for stable and simple construction. A big advantage is that the arc movement of the knife beam results in very accurate cutting of the plate over the full length of the shear. The back gauge is mounted at the knife beam so that the same oscillating movement takes place. Because of this, there is no jamming of the cut plate. Features The side frames, bed and rear chute are of a single welded construction with a side frame gap. The chute design enables easy adaptation of material take-off units. The see-thru finger guard gives full safety protection while enabling the operator to feed material close to the blades, reducing scrap. Sheet clamping is applied by hydraufic hold downs that can be fitted with non-marking pads. The clamping force is applied prior to the movement of the shear beam, and becomes a function of the shear force when the top blade penetrates the material. The hold downs are released immediately before reversal of the shear beam, eliminating blade wipe. The shear beam pivots on self-al igning spherical bearings and is activated by heavy-duty cylinders mounted in the end frames. Darley makes their own cylinders to assure consistent quality. The shear beam can be inched down without power for blade setting after flipping or regrinding. The blade clearance adjustment is designed for rapid setting by means of a hand lever applied to the rear pivot eccentric, adjusting the blade clearance against a scale. No adjustment is required for the bottom blade. The heavy-duty, screw-operated power back gauge is front-operated and has a fu ll40" range. Readout is through a centrally located digital counter. The two 59" front support arms have inserted scales that are suitable for front gauging when used in conjunction with disappearing stops. The 59" side squaring arm also has an inserted scale for front gauging. Fluorescent lights are fitted on the top rear of the hold down beam. Together with the finger guard, they provide a safe and clear operator view for shadow line shearing. The unitized hydraulic power pack is designed for simplicity in operation and maintenance. Standard equipment includes, 40" frontoperated power back gauge, instant blade clearance adjustment, stroke length adjustment; shadow line lighting, 59" side squaring arm with inserted scales, two-59" front support arms with inserted scales, nickel chrome or shock-resistant blades, (depending on model), electric and hydraulics complete, operation and maintenance manual; service set, machine comes filled with oil. 5

f 77~ 7 ~ 1771/71 Blade Clearance Too Small t 77/z 7 ~ Blade Clearance Too Great Correct Blade Clearance Swing Beam System n swing beam cutting, the upper blade describes an arc around two pivots, which has a number of technical advantages. Because of the convenient blade gap adjustment on Darley shears, it's easy to maintain the proper blade clearance. This results in longer blade life. The back gauge moves with the offcut allowing the material to fall away freely. Because there are no gibbs that need clearance to operate, optimum precision and rigidity are maintained by using the swing beam principle with adjustable eccentric pivot points. Rapid Blade Gap Adjustment The adjustable eccentric pivots of the swing beam allow rapid setting of blade clearance. The pivot is rotated until the pointer corresponds to the thickness of material to be sheared. The sketches show the importance of this fast, accurate blade clearance setting. This setting is only necessary at one end of the shear as it automatically adjusts the blade gap over the total length of the shear. ndependent Sheet Clamping The Darley Shears' hydraulic hold downs operate independently of each other. This means they can clamp sheets of variable thickness firmly at each point. The pressure exerted by each of the hold downs is sufficient to prevent movement of the sheet, producing a straight accurate cut. The hold downs are positioned closer together at the left hand side of the machine for cutting narrow strips. The table is fitted with removable rails; this serves two functions. First, because of the small amount of material drag produced by the rails, feeding of plates is done with less effort than on a solid type table. Secondly, the support arms may be positioned anywhere by simply removing a rail and positioning the arm in the rail's place. The actual table on all Darley Shears is machined so that adaptation of material feeding units and pingauging arms is quite easy and inexpensive. Take The Shear To The Job Approximately 70% of all cutting jobs can be done by our compact Optishears (4' length) designed to be used anywhere in the factory. The machine can be lifted and positioned without the requirement of a special foundation. There is sufficient strength within the machine to cut at full capacity without the need to be bolted to the floor. This is useful when used in conjunction with larger shears maximizing productivity! 6

Features Simple controls, centrally located, make for short set-up time. 40" front-operated power back gauge along with variable stroke length are standard. By shortening the length of the stroke, there are more strokes per minute, increasing productivity. '-- A _[ c- LB f= ~-------- - -- -:-!, E.. ::: ::::1~,1...
