Taupo to Tamworth & Tweed Valley, Australia If it your wish to take part in a cheaper but fantastic exchange in 2015, this visit to the Australian East Coast is a must. Our first exchange is to Tamworth which sits roughly halfway between Sydney & Brisbane and which gives an opportunity to visit both these major cities and make the tour between. Think Tamworth, think the Country Music Capital of Australia and the Festival during January each year. But there is much more to Tamworth which is an important commercial centre serving their agricultural and tourist industries which have a large impact on the finances of the city. FFI Exchange number: 12222 Dates: September 2015 $480US FFI & Host Fees. More details on application to ED Helen Bygate (Taupo) 07-3770769 nelen@xtra.co.nz Surrounding the city is rich agricultural country with the primary producers farm dairy cattle, sheep, poultry and beef cattle. Crops such as wheat, soy beans, cotton, fruit and vegetables are also produced in abundance. Although there is a strong agricultural base in Tamworth, there is also a vast array of historical features in our area and a broad range of artistic cultures to be enjoyed including music, dance, and theatre. The Lookout is popular for its many hiking tracks, while others enjoy strolling through any of the beautifully maintained parks and gardens. Nothing could be more in tune with our "easy-going" lifestyle than experiencing nature first hand in these lovely spots. We continue our journey to Tweed Valley on the NSA / Queensland border. This area offers the greatest variety of Australian landscapes including magnificent rainforests, oceans, and mountains which we will explore during our visit. And we will meet the local fauna kangaroos, koala, echidnas, platypus, and all those animals special to this part of the world. Not far up the road are the cities of Brisbane and Gold Coast with an abundance of sightseeing, attractions, and of course shopping. Then spend a few days of R&R before returning to home Hamilton & Waikato to Murray Bridge and Mount Gambier, Australia This is an opportunity to visit our Aussie mates in a particularly enjoyable part of the country. FFI Exchange number: 12338 Dates: September 2015 Cost: Approx. $1200NZ (includes FFI and Host Club Fees) Keith Burt (Hamilton & Waikato) 07-8546265 keburt@xtra.co.nz Our first exchange is to Murray Bridge FF on the Murray River east of Adelaide. This is predominately a farming area but there with many interesting places to see. Such as a visit to the famous wine area of the Barossa Valley, or to the historic German village of Hahndorf, or just mosey through the fascinating villages of the Adelaide Hills, and a visit to Victor Harbour where we might see the whales is a must. Or we might visit the Monarta Zoo where we drive among the wild animals, or check out the birdlife at Coorong and Lakes, or visit the Aboriginal displays. We now move south along the spectacular Great Ocean Road to our second hosting at Mt Gambier FF Club which is situated roughly half way between Melbourne and Adelaide. Mount Gambier is known as Blue Lake City, a name synonymous with the lake which mysteriously changes in colour from grey to turquoise blue in November and back again in March. It is the site of Australia's largest pine plantation and the centre of a thriving wool, prime lamb, dairy, beef, cattle, lobster and limestone. So much to do. A Welcome Function, Mayoral Reception, Rose Planting in F.F.Garden, Full Day Coach Tour, Wineries Visit, Fossil Cave Tour, Wildlife Park, Galleries and Museums, Timber Mill Tours, Coastal Tour, Sink Hole Tour, Limestone Quarry Tour, and Farewell Dinner. FFI Exchange number: 12221 Dates: 13 September - 15 October, 2015 $9-9500NZD New Plymouth to New Plymouth (includes transfers, tours and cruise, but not FFI and Host Club Fees of approx. $680). Can be changed to suit individual travellers. Ian Wards (South Taranaki) 06-2784626 Mobile 027-4482337 i.j.wards@xtra.co.nz We fly Auckland Hong Kong and stay one night which gives us nearly two full days for sightseeing in Hong Kong. We then fly via Munich to Hamburg where we stay two nights giving us one full day to savour the sights and culture of Hamburg before taking the train to Kiel and our first six night hosting in the beautiful northern German city on the Baltic coast. Some sights we will see include the Kiel canal -- the link between the two seas, Hamburg in the south and the Danish border in the north can be reached within an hour. Neat historic towns and estates are typical for Kiel's surroundings. On September 24th train journey to Ieper (Ypres in French) in Flanders. We have two nights here where we will tour the area where the tragic events of WW1 involving New Zealand soldiers unfolded in the area around Passchendaelle nearly one hundered years ago. We then continue our journey to Paris where we will board our boat for a night cruise on the Seine in Paris before continuing the next day on the Seine to the coastal town of Honfluer, visiting towns and villages on the way before returning to Paris to take the train down to our second Friendship Force exchange at Bordeaux, finishing on 13th October. Think Bordeaux, think wine the red wines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit verdot, Malbec, and, less commonly in recent years, Carménère and the white wines Sauvignon blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle. Sauternes is a subregion known for its intensely sweet, white, dessert wines such as Château d'yquem. There is history dating back hundreds of years even to Roman times, and Bordeaux has been inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List as "an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble". Following this amazing exchange, ambassadors can then return directly to New Zealand in their own time or travel on to visit friends elsewhere.
