DOCK LINES EDITOR: Jim Lium VOLUME 5 NUMBER 11 Assistant Editor Mary Lium NOVEMBER 2014 MYCLB Founded 1957 http://sites.google.com/site/myclb1957 LAND CRUISE CHRISTMAS BRUNCH December 6, 2014 PORT CAPTAIN Mayes COMMODORE S BALL January 9, 2015 PORT CAPTAIN Coomber VALENTINES Feb 13 th or 14 th PORT CAPTAINS Saraf & Davis

COMMODORE S CORNER Our Land Cruise to the dessert was wonderful. Our gracious Port Captains Jim and Joan Wolfelt did an outstanding job. See their report of the event below. Coming in December is our Christmas Brunch. Get your Blue Card to the Port Captains Mary and Tom Mayes to let them know if you are coming. Winners of the 2013 trophies; please bring the trophies you won to the brunch. We will need to get them engraved for this year s winners. This is an important event because we hold elections for the 2015 Bridge. It is also a fun event to invite guest to. Susana Dworski is hard at work putting the 2015 Roster together. Please check your information in the roster and let Susana know by Dec.1, if there are any changes or updates that need to be made. Susana does an amazing professional job and we appreciate all of her work. Rod and Kathryn Comber are the Port Captains for this year s Change of Watch. They have planned for us to go to the Grand Ballroom on January 9, 2015. Put this on your calendar and RSVP as soon as you receive your invitation. Larry and I are inviting you all to our Boat Parade Viewing Potluck Party. Boy that s a mouthful. It will be on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at our home. We will start at 5:00. Larry (Yes can you believe he can see well enough to drive)and Jim Wolfelt will carpool people from Pavilions. ( On PCH Seal Beach) This is how it works. You drive into our complex and drop off everyone in your car at our breezeway. 16126 Mariner Dr. The driver then goes to Pavilions and parks, finds Larry or Jim and will be carpooled to our house. We stop carpooling at 5:00 so get there on time or you will have to walk. There is no parking in our complex except for our truck and carpooler Jim. Please RSVP 562-592-3110 and get suggestions of what food to bring. This is not a club event so you don t get any points. Vice Commodore Jim is busy setting up next year s Port Captains for our events. If you have not yet signed up for an event please call him. Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching and it reminds me of all things I am thankful for. I know you too are thankful for the many blessing you have. Eat lots of turkey and I will see you soon. Your Commodore, Hedy Codner VICE COMMODORE S CORNER The Land Cruise to Desert Hot Springs was a great event as usual. Jim & Joan come up with something new each year and this year was no exception. Thank you Jim & Joan for a job well done. Our events do not just happen, they are a result of dedicated effort by our members, some who do it year after year. With our small membership and so many great events all members need to do their share by being involved with the event planning and execution. If you have not been a Port Captain for a while this is the year you need to be involved even if it is only to help with an event. There are still a couple of land events that do not have a Port Captain. You do not need a boat to do a land event. It may sound harsh but if there are no Port Captains for a particular event it will be cancelled. If you are interested in doing your share please let me know. Jim Lium MYCLB Vice Commodore, 2014

OCTOBERFEST 2014 MYCLB October 24, 25 & 26, 2014 Friday October 24th The weekend started Friday afternoon with cocktails around 5:00 pm at our house at Mission Lakes Country Club. Our members used 5 of the 8 rooms at the Mission Lakes Inn. think they started their party a little early. We served beer, wine, margaritas, vodka, scotch, soft drinks and water. Rocky s Pizza delivered pizza and antipasta salad at 6:30 pm for our dinner. After dinner we showed the video from our August Cruise to San Diego. Many funny things happened along the way. Each boat who attended any part of the cruise received a copy of the DVD. I Saturday October 25 th This year we learned the early history of Palm Springs. We visted two of the oldest buildings in Palm Springs, the McCallum Adobe Museum and Cornelia White House Museum, built in 1884 and 1893 respectively. The Adobe Museum was once the residence of the first white settlers in Palm Springs and is now home to historical exhibits of Palm Springs and a 20- minute film about the City s beginnings. The Cornelia White House Museum, located next door to the Adobe, was once part of the first hotel in Palm Springs, and aptly named Palm Springs Hotel, and was later home to pioneer Cornelia White. Admission was free. We also explored the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum and learned the early history and culture of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and some of the earilest settlers in Palm Springs. We visited Ruddy s General Store Museum that displayed many real products from the 1930 s, including hats, shoes, clothing, yard goods etc. all displayed in yesteryears General Store. Then everybody was on their own to explore downtown Palm Springs for lunch. The Octoberfest Party started around 5:30 pm at our house with some very good German Beer and other beverages. For dinner we served the finest real German food in all the desert. We had brautwurst, german potato salad, sauerkraut and pretzels. Our friend Ana Kraft purchased all the Germen food for the party from the best sources in Southern CA and brought it to our house. What are friends for? For desert we had apple strudel and ice cream. Many members came in German Octoberfest costume. Mary Lium was selected to have the best costume at the party.

Sunday October 26th A continental breakfast was served Sunday morning starting at 9:30 am with Bloody Mary s, Screw Drivers, Champaign and simple brunch stuff. We also had a golf putting contest for everyone to play. Jim Lium won the contest and trophy. Everyone had a great weekend. Don t miss next year s party. Joan & Jim Wolfelt TROPHY RETURN If you were a trophy winner last your please bring your trophy to the Christmas Brunch and give it to Hedy. If you are not attending the Brunch please make arrangements to get your trophy to Hedy so she can get them engraved for this years winners. 2014 Nomination Committee The 2014 Nomination Committee has nominated the following members for the Bridge Officers for 2015: Commodore: Jim Lium Vice Commodore: Jim Wolfelt Treasurer: John Caldwell Secretary: Mary Lium Christmas Holiday Brunch 2014 Welcome the holiday season with the annual MYCLB holiday brunch, this year at the popular Reef Restaurant with its scenic view of the Long Beach downtown waterfront.
