WESTERN VICTORIA JOTA JOTI 2018 Friday 19 - Sunday 21 October

Camp information Join us at the wonderful Cooinda Burrong Scout Campsite in the Grampians National Park for JOTA/JOTI 2018! Friday 19 th to Sunday 21 st October 2018 Weekend Outline Friday 19th Gates open at 5pm and you can plan to arrive at any time during the evening. Please make sure that you check in at the main hall upon arrival. Saturday 20 th Join us for an opening parade in the parade ground to kick off the day. Rotate through three activities during the morning, before having an hour lunch break. The afternoon will see you rotate through three more activities. Return to your campsite for tea, before joining us for our Saturday Night Activity. More information about this activity will follow. Sunday 21st We start the day with a Scouts Own in the peaceful campsite chapel. Complete the remaining two activities before joining us for a whole-camp BBQ! Register your attendance To assist us with planning purposes we ask that leaders register with us with an indication of how many Scouts will be attending from your group. This is an easy process and takes only a minute on our website at www.wvjota.com. Payment is not required when you register it is only required on arrival at the camp. After registering online we will send you some more information, including a form we ask you to hand in on arrival. Get in touch! If you have any questions at all, please get in touch with us. Camp information Costs We endeavor to keep our costs as low as possible to make JOTA/JOTI accessible to all. Joeys and Cubs - $2 each We invite Joeys and Cubs to visit on either the Saturday or Sunday and for them to take part in the Amateur Radio and JOTI activities. They will receive the 2018 JOTA/JOTI badge to recognise their participation in the event. Scouts - $25 each Scouts camp on site with their Patrol/Troop on Friday and Saturday nights, and rotate through each of our eight activities all day Saturday and Sunday morning. The fee for Scouts includes the campsite fee, the JOTA/JOTI badge, a small activity levy (to cover consumables), and the Sunday BBQ lunch. Venturers and Rovers - $25 each We have a large contingent of Venturers and Rovers at our event. The cost outline for Venturers and Rovers is the same as for Scouts. Leaders - $20 each The cost breakdown for leaders is as per Scouts/Venturers/Rovers, with the activity levy not being charged. Cost recovery for leaders, where appropriate, is to be organised at the group level. Sunday BBQ Lunch We provide a BBQ for everyone onsite on Sunday afternoon. This is a great way of socialising with your new friends from other groups and helps with campsite packup, meaning that you don t need to leave out equipment/food for lunch!

JOTA Amateur Radio Join in the fun of JOTA at our massive Amateur Radio station. Our equipment will get you on the air talking with Scouts in many different parts of the World, Australia & overseas. At our Amateur Radio Station, we like to do a little more than just talk on radios! Have you ever seen pictures sent via radio, or how about live tracking of several transmitters being carried on our activities using radio and Google Earth! Our station s callsign is VK3SAW and will be on air from 9:00am Saturday morning (2200UTC) and close at 12:00pm on Sunday (0100UTC). If you have Scouting friends in other places, you can give them this information to pass on to their JOTA Radio Operator. JOTI Internet Chat JOTI is also a big thing at our event. We have in excess of 20 slick laptops running JOTI for the whole weekend. We even run an interactive map displaying all JOTI contact right around the world to make your JOTI experience even more enjoyable! JOTI connects you with the entire Scouting world using JOTI specific chat servers. Just like JOTA, this is a lot of fun!

Activities We have a jam-packed weekend of radio and electronics activities in store! Kit Building Try your hand at building a simple circuit while learning how to solder. Soldering is a great skill to learn and something which is always useful to know when it comes to fixing up a gadget. Learn how in this activity and have fun putting together your circuit! Fox Hunting Scouts use directional antennas with very special receivers in order to located hidden transmitters hidden in the bush. How quick can you complete the course and get back to base with your foxes? Geocaching We have experienced Geocachers for the weekend to set you up a challenging Geocache course around the camp. This is a great activity which you can take back to your own troop. Learn how to use a GPS and locate the hidden caches in the bush. Mast Building and SSTV Just like a family photo, only we do it JOTA style! In this activity, each patrol will build their own mast, erect an antenna and use the radio waves in order to send, receive and print a special, take-home, patrol photo! Radio Orienteering Patrols saddle up with the Scout Radio Backpack and are given directions from base via radio to complete the course. Good compass skills are required as well as clear communication and some basic Scouting knowledge to find your way around. Meanwhile, home base are watching your GPS position being transmitted back via the Radio Backpack! Jam FM Rock on to the tunes of JamFM broadcasting throughout the entire campsite all weekend! Pay the guys at JamFM a visit to request a song and even get on air. This year, JamFM will be staffed by an enthusiastic team of Venturers.

Quality scouting award Founded in 2008, the Wimmera Cup is awarded annually to the JOTA troop who best demonstrates Quality Scouting over the JOTA/JOTI weekend. The Cup is open to all Groups attending the camp, not just those from Wimmera District. Great prizes are always up for grabs for the winners and also for the runners-up. The main way to earn points is by carefully planning and setting up your weekend standing campsite showing off your Group s quality scouting techniques! Then, you are awarded points over the weekend for various other things including your participation in the activities. Each year the winning Group is awarded the cup plus their choice of great prizes. 4 th Horsham took home a set of UHF radios to use for activities with their group last year. Will your group take home our first prize this year? Saturday Night Activity Details are still being confirmed, but we plan to have a new activity to bring the camp together on Saturday night. Stay tuned for an update on this as we get closer to the event!
