DECEMBER 2018 VOLUME ISSUE 12 CLUB OFFICERS PRESIDENT: MIKE FLOOD VICE PRESIDENT: IAN O'SHEA SECRETARY: MIKE PAYNE MEMBERSHIP: HANK RIPPERT EDITOR: GIL DUPRE CAR SHOW CHAIR:PERSON PERKY LONG SBCC CHALLENGE CORDINATOR: MIKE FLOOD WEBSITE COORDI- NATORS CONNI WRIGHT & MARY DUFFY I want to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Several members have told me they will be out of town fro New Years. I wish them and each of you safe C travels over this holiday season. The Christmas Party at the Dondero's was fantastic. About 35 members came to share a meal and play a "Dirty Santa." I realize there are a multitude of parties this time of the year. Teresa skipped the Dondero's for a trip to hear Sandy Patty in Nashville. She and everyone else who was not at Cort and Helene's missed out on one of the best "Dirty Santa" that we have had. Next up is New Years. The first thing is your New Years resolutions. I hope they include driving your British car more often. I know, you really do not trust the car, so you let it sit and the tires go flat and the battery dies, and the car will not run. Solution is to start by pumping up the tires, charging the battery, and driving the car around the block. Then drive it around two blocks, and so on. Eventually you will have confidence in the car. I am having to do that with our '79 B. Remember you have AAA insurance and you can be towed home. Let me tell you, some of the best mechanics in the club who have driven 1000's of mile in their car have come home on the back of a tow vehicle. It will happen. To receive that badge of honor, you have to drive your car. The second New Years activity is to go on the New Years Day drive with your SBCC friends. The long range weather forecast looks like low 50's and cloudy. I know that the weather will change, but make plans to enjoy a day driving your British car. We will meet in Dayton at the Krystal on Hwy 27 for a drive through the mountains before eating lunch. Teresa and I have been looking at several different restaurants but have not decided on one as of yet. Other activities to think about are places to go and things to do for Valentines and St. Patrick Day. Do you want to lead a club drive? The "British Fools Bash" sometime near the 1st of April will be hear soon. Hitting the SBCC Roads Mike 1
The December 2018 meeting of the SBCC was called to order by the President at 6:30PM at the home of Cort and Helene Dondero. A motion was made and seconded to suspend the reading of the November meeting and the Treasurer's Report. Motion was made and seconded to approve the following officer of the club for the year of 2019. President Mike Flood Vice President Ian O'Shea Secretary Mike Payne Treasurer Barbara Dempsey Membership Teresa Flood Newsletter Gil DuPre Being no other business a motion was made and seconded to adjourn. Submitted by Mike Flood Saturday night, December 1, 2018 the place to be was at Cort and Helene Dondero's. Members of the Southern British Car club had come to eat and party. About 35 members of the club show up to share a pop luck meat and play "dirty Santa." Santa was true to form and played dirty tricks on the members who unwrapped gifts from under the tree. Green eyed monsters quickly appeared to see what they could take from their friends. The "Grinch" was ready to help take their newly obtained prized possession from them. Husbands and wives teamed up to ensure they took home the gifts they wanted. Various gifts were taken from under the Christmas tree and went home with members of the club. From shop rags for the mechanic, Christmas toys for the children, various scented candles and a case of beer all went to new homes where they will be treasured. After "dirty Santa" had done his best to make the evening enjoyable we took Cort up on his offer to stay and enjoy the various games available. Pool games and video games were enjoyed until the "sandman" spread the desire for sleep and the club members departed for home wishing each and everyone a "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year." submitted by Mike Flood 2

Saturday, November 24,2018 was a cloudy, cool day for the drive to Hiwassee, GA to eat at Daniel's Steak House. Meeting at the BP station on Hwy 64 in Cleveland there were twelve club members in 6 British cars and 1 German make. We said to drive what runs. The drive took us through the Hiwassee River gorge. The colors very still vibrant in places. The 7 cars represented 4 with hardtops and 3 convertible. This was not top down weather, so those tops were up. There were 3 MGs, 1 Triumph, 1 Lotus, 1 Jaguar, and 1 Mercedes. Club members who made the drive were: Dave and Teresa Terhune, Gil and Marge DuPre, Gary and Mary Higbee, Paul and Tricia Batovsky, Mike and Teresa Flood, Mike Hemsley, and Scott McAllister. SBCC monthly gathering at the Cambridge Square in Ooltewah was on December 3rd. There were five members that braved the slightly cool weather and came to kick tires. Gil DuPre, Scott McAllister, Mike Hemsley, Dave & Teresa Terhune and Charlie Long braved the elements long enough to find a place to get something to eat and drink. A great time was had by all. 4
Bon Voyage Party for Our Perky About 15 or so of the fairer members of SBCC gathered on December 6th to host a festive going away dinner for Perky Long. We chose the club s usual monthly meeting place, Puleo s Grill, and they could not have been more accommodating. We laughed over our Perky fans, lamented the upcoming move of our dear friend, offered her best wishes, and topped everything off with a beautiful purple trimmed cake courtesy of There were thirteen attendees wishing Charlie Long well in his and Perky s new adventure moving to of all places Bean Station TN. We don't much blame them as they will be closer to their daughter and her family of 4 grand's. The will be missed and hope they will come to as many SBCC events as they can. 5
