A C T I V I T I E S A C T I V I T I E S DRESS CODE Dress code for the tournament is business or smart casual. ACTIVITIES WHO is a pretty intense tournament, but that does not mean you are not supposed to have any fun. We have two age-appropriate social events planned on Friday and Saturday evening. Advent in Zagreb Friday evening, 14.12. Based on previous experience in organizing the tournament during Advent in Zagreb, the winner of Best Christmas Market in Europe title, participants want to see what all the fuss is about and Friday evening is when you ll have the chance to do that. We encourage you to explore the Advent in Zagreb web page as well as our map to see what you re interested in. If you want to explore on your own, that s fine if you d like some help, our volunteers can accompany you on your Zagreb adventure, but please make sure to send us an e-mail with the request as soon as possible. Country Expo & Break Announcement Saturday evening, 15.12. WHO 2018 will host participants from 12 countries so on Saturday evening everybody will have the chance to showcase their culture, food, drinks (non-alcoholic) and other interesting things about your respective countries to other tournament participants. Country Expo will take place at the tournament venue and will start after dinner, so please bring some national foodstuff, flags, souvenirs and different knickknacks with you when you depart from your accommodation to the school on Saturday morning. Every delegation will have a stand available to present their country. If there are several nationalities represented within a delegation, feel free to set up joint tables or represent your country on a separate table, just make sure to mention you need more space to our volunteers. Regular and Novice breaking teams will be announced during Country Expo. 4 P a g e

G E N E R A L I N F O R M A T I O N GETTING AROUND ZAGREB Our volunteers can help you get from your accommodation to the tournament venue and viceversa. TRAMS: Trams are Zagreb s favourite and easiest to use form of public transport. Public transport in Zagreb during Advent is free from Friday noon to Sunday midnight. Otherwise, tram tickets can be bought at kiosks or from tram drivers. There are two types of tram tickets 30 minute ones that cost 4 HRK/ 0,5 and 90 minute tickets that cost 10 HRK/ 1,30. We recommend buying 30 minute tickets as there are no tram rides from any of our accommodation sites to the main venue over 30 minutes. You can get tram tickets in kiosks around tram stations. The tickets bought in trams, brilliantly, cost 15 HRK / 2. TAXI: Using taxis in Zagreb has become relatively cheap in recent years. Taxi fare from city centre to the airport should be around 150 HRK or 20, and taxi fare from city centre to the tournament venue should be around 6-9 per cab. Here are our favourite taxi company picks. You can book your rides online, by phone or through their apps. TAXI CAMMEO cammeo.hr + 385 1 1212 EKO TAXI ekotaxi.hr + 385 1 1414 UBER If you re living the opposition to This house would delete Uber, you ll be happy to know Uber is available in Croatia. 6 P a g e

FOOD, BARS, STORES AND COFFEE PLACES First off, remember that breakfast will be served at your accommodation, while both lunch and dinner will be provided at the tournament venue (dinner on Friday, lunch and dinner on Saturday, lunch on Sunday) so you will not have to use a lot of restaurants. Regardless of that, you might want to try some local food. Zagreb has a large number of local fast food establishments, small bistros and big old fashioned restaurants. On top of that, you re visiting Zagreb during Advent and will notice that the city is full of street food. You don t have to worry all street food Zagreb is perfectly safe. There are several "hubs" for restaurants in Zagreb such as Masarykova, Teslina, Tkalčićeva and Skalinska Street and you will find all sorts of food within 15 min walk between these places. Cafés, bars and restaurants are mainly open after midnight, but you ll notice that shops and markets are not and close around 8 pm. We recommend you do your shopping before that. Apart from a couple of kiosks, there s an underground supermarket open 24/7 at the main train station (and it s way less scary than it sounds). We are providing you with a map of supermarket-type stores and coffee places in vicinity of the hotels and the hostels. As you can see, there is quite a choice of such establishments and you will not have a problem of finding any of these anywhere in Zagreb. PLACES TO VISIT Here are some of our participant s favourite places to see: Museum of Broken Relationships Museum of Contemporary Art Upper Town (Gornji Grad) Dolac open air farmers market Zagreb 360 o cafe and viewing platform Tkalciceva street (nice during the day and fun during the night) Ribnjak & Maksimir public parks Advent in Zagreb 7 P a g e

G E N E R A L I N F O R M A T I O N PRICES Prices in Croatia are relatively low for European standards and are about the same as prices in Slovenia, The Czech Republic and Slovakia. The official Croatian currency is Croatian Kuna (HRK) not Euros! Sample prices in supermarkets Coca Cola, 0.5l costs around 7 HRK or 1 EUR, 0.5l of water costs about the same and a tube of Pringles will cost you around 20 HRK or 2,50 EUR. Sample prices in restaurants and coffee places Coffee around 10 HRK or 1,50 EUR 0.2l soft drinks around 14 HRK or 2 EUR Big Mac - 18 HRK 2,35 EUR Hamburger (Fast food places) - from 25 HRK do 45 HRK (3 to 5 EUR) Pizza - 30-40 HRK around 4 EUR An average main course meal in a slow food restaurant can be found from around 50 HRK or 7. VICES AND ADDICTIONS Smoking Smoking is forbidden in restaurants and all establishments that serve food. Coffee places & night clubs can choose if they will allow smoking. Since you re in the Balkans, expect most will choose to allow smoking. Smoking in all public buildings and courtyards (schools etc.), public transport and all indoor public spaces is strictly forbidden. Legal age for buying cigarettes is 18+. Drinking Almost all coffee places in Zagreb serve alcohol and different alcoholic beverages are readily available in every store and kiosk in Zagreb. Mulled versions of wine, but also spirits, can be found at most Advent food and/or drink stands. Legal age for buying alcohol is 18+. Coaches and accompanying adults, be aware that this is relatively loosely enforced! Drugs Drugs (marijuana included) are not legal; possession or use of all narcotics in any quantity is a criminal offence. 8 P a g e

G E N E R A L I N F O R M A T I O N SAFETY Zagreb is in general a very safe city with a very low (practically non-existent) level of violent crimes, especially towards tourists. There are no unsafe parts of the city or parts in which extra precaution is warranted so feel free to move around and explore. As for some general safety tips, you should observe normal caution - avoid dark parks or streets during the night if you re on your own, do not leave your things unattended in public places and try to organise your belongings as to avoid pick pocketing etc. There are no recorded terrorist threats in Croatia. During the winter holiday period use of pyrotechnics such as fireworks and firecrackers is extensive. One should not get alarmed by this and use normal caution in these situations, which is basically avoid people/groups doing stupid things with firecrackers if you happen to come across them. We propose this as a general rule of thumb outside of Croatia also. Carrying a form of ID is legally required for all people above age of 16. You should carry a driving licence, passport or a regular ID on your person at all times outside of your accommodation. DECEMBER WEATHER The weather in Zagreb can be quite unstable in December. So far we had sunny and cool and rainy and freezing, this year it looks like partially overcast with temperatures around 0 C. Remember to pack warm clothes and footwear suitable for rain or snow. If you re thinking about whether you should pack that extra scarf or sweater, pack it! There are not many things worse than freezing half to death mid-christmas market. As expected in long term forecast, please check for updates before you leave for Zagreb. 9 P a g e
