ACTIVITIES LODGING CLIMATE Moderate to strenuous hiking with up to 15 miles over 12 hours in a day on varied, mountainous terrain. A range of lodging, from scenic mountain huts with dormitories, to comfortable hotels with modern amenities. Expect extreme weather conditions that can change from one moment to the other. Be prepared for everything, especially strong winds and sun. Rodrigo (Ro) was born in the Last Hope Province of Chile and grew up in Patagonia where he developed a deep love for the outdoors. He has been guiding for the last 14 years in Patagonia & Canada. Ro is an accomplished hiker, kayaker, mountaineer, and wilderness responder. He is also a talented photographer, with a keen eye for capturing the natural beauty of Patagonia. Itinerary DAY 1 ARRIVE IN PUNTA ARENAS Arrive at the airport in Punta Arenas, Chile, and meet your group leader to transfer to the hotel. In the early evening, gather with the group for a briefing on the adventure ahead. Enjoy a welcome dinner tonight. Meals: (D) DAY 2 SCENIC DRIVE TO TORRES DEL PAINE NATIONAL PARK After breakfast, travel across the Patagonian plains to the quiet fishing town of Puerto Natales on the shores of Seno Ultima Esperanza (Last Hope Sound). Set out on a short walk, across the valley from Cueva del Mylodon and Cueva del Medio-caves that have yielded important prehistoric finds. Tonight, travel to Lago de Grey and settle into our quaint hotel, ideally situated within Torres del Paine National Park. Activity: 1 2 hours/1 2 miles hiking DAY 3 SEE SPECTACULAR GREY GLACIER Cross Lago de Grey by boat to reach the foot of the Grey Glacier. Our trail traces the lakeshore, offering spectacular views of the glacier, the expansive ice field, the Andes Range, and the dramatic Paine massif itself. Settle into our lodge, overlooking Lago Pehoé. Activity: 4 hours/7.5 miles hiking with 1000' elevation gain and loss DAY 4 HIKE THROUGH FRENCH VALLEY Hike into the French valley, one of the most spectacular cirques in the Paine Massif. Walk below the glaciers that descend from the massif's highest summit, Paine Grande, and marvel at the gray granite peaks of the Cuernos del Paine, topped with fantastical black slate "horns." Take in panoramic vistas of this extraordinary
sweep of mountains and spend the night in a cabin by a waterfall. Porters will carry your essentials for today and tomorrow. Activity: 10-12 hours/15 miles hiking with a 2000' elevation gain or 8 hours/11 miles hiking with a 1200' elevation gain DAY 5 TAKE THE PASO LOS CUERNOS TRAIL Today, follow the Paso Los Cuernos trail along the north shore of Lago Nordenskjöld, hiking at a relaxed pace between the soaring Cuernos del Paine and the sapphire lake. Continue to the entrance of the Torres mountain valley and check into our hotel. Activity: 5 hours/7 miles hiking with a 400' elevation gain and loss DAY 6 EXPLORE MAJESTIC TORRES DEL PAINE Rise early for a full-day hike to Torres del Paine, sheer walls of granite that thrust vertically into the sky. Our path cuts through beech forests and up to the barren slopes below the towers to one of the most magnificent viewpoints in the world. Before us, the towers rise majestically, and below, the glacial lake shines a brilliant shade of blue. Activity: 9 hours/11.5 miles hiking with 2500' elevation gain DAY 7 DEPART FROM PUNTA ARENAS After an early breakfast, return to Punta Arenas by private van to meet with your afternoon flight to Santiago and continue to your next destination.
