Case example of restoration 1 Minami Gamo WWTP in Sendai city In May 2011, remove floating materials in settling s to use them as roughing s. In May 2011, install temporary and final dehydrators and start their operation. In September 2011, the research committee submit a report of the restoration policy to Mayor of Sendai city. Decide to rebuild their plant in the same place. In April 2012, start demolishing damaged sewerage facilities. In May 2012, start temporary operations of contact aeration facilities (treatment capability of 300,000 m 3 /day) targeted effluent BOD is below 60mg/L In July 2012, start final rehabilitation. Rehabilitation work will be completed in March 2016. Case example of restoration 2 Abukuma gawa-karyu regional sewerage Ken-nan WWTP in Miyagi prefecture In fiscal year 2011, halves of the first and the fifth wastewater treatment facilities start their normal operation. In April 2012, the second wastewater treatment facilities start their normal operation. In May 2012, the third wastewater treatment facilities start their normal operation. In July 2012, the forth and a half of the first wastewater treatment facilities start their normal operation. The restoration of wastewater treatment facilities in large scale WWTPs with treatment capacity of 100,000m 3 /day has been achieved in just 15 months. JS will support their rehabilitation work of sludge treatment facilities to be completed by March 2013. Case example of restoration 4 20 km evacuation zone around the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Start a damage survey and a detailed design of sewerage facilities in Tomioka town (Fully evacuated area). Tomioka WWTP in Tomioka town North district WWTP in Naraha town Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Control building damaged by tsunami Disaster assessments of sewerage facilities are completed, construction project is proceeding in Naraha town (An area to which people may return but not stay overnight. No protective equipment required.). Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Plant South district WWTP in Naraha town As of 17 July 2012 Doors damaged by tsunami

Case example of restoration5 Our support for the stormwater management Matsushima town and Iwanuma city of Miyagi, damaged by massive tsunami, have serious ground subsidence in large area by earthquake. JS supports their stormwater management project by request from Matsushima town and Iwanuma city. Start detailed design of pumping station, including improvement of drainage basin in Matsushima town. Start detailed design including three pumping stations in Iwanuma city. Challenge to Reduce Radioactive Substances Contaminated Sewage Sludge Volume(entrusted project from Ministry of the Environment ) Implement the project at Horikawa WWTP in Fukushima city Evaluate effectiveness of volume reduction system for sewage sludge contaminated with radioactive substances (about 8000m3 ) stored in Horikawa WWTP. Joint project of JS, Nippon Steel & Sumikin Engineering Co, Ltd, Mitsubishi Research Institute. Mix and dry sewage sludge contaminated with radioactive substances, temporary stored in reactors with daily produced sewage sludge. Put dry sewage sludge into sealed drums and store them in reactors. In fiscal year 2011 and 2012, conduct a field survey and design, in fiscal year 2013, start operation. Centrifugal dehydrated sewage sludge Sludge dryer Sealed into a drum 遠心脱水機 Store drums in reactors Dried sewage sludge Flexible container bags with sewage sludge inside a reactor. Stored sewage sludge Start the foundation work in September 2012 Hang flexible container bags, open them, take sewage sludge out and pump them.
