Volume 08 Number 08 November 2008 Hollywood West Elks Lodge BPOE #2365 November 2008 Volume 08 Number 08 Jesse Clemence Exalted Ruler www.elkslodge2365.org email: info@elkslodge2365.org Exalted Rulers Message November is here and so are the coming holidays. Please take the time out of your busy schedules and visit us for some of our get-togethers and holiday fundraisers. We have our annual fundraiser, Dinty Moore, Dec. 5th, Friday night--- which our Leading Knight hosts, for our children s party Christmas gifts and families-in-need baskets. We are also asking for non-perishable foods we can donate to families in need and we are going to send some Christmas boxes to Iraq. We will have a bin set up in the lobby for you to donate what you can. I want to thank all the members that supported and donated all the funds to build our Chickee Hut for our smoking area. No matter how much you gave, your name is going to be on the plaque of donors. All you guys who dug the dirt, put the pavers in and landscaped (donated plants, too) thanks, but now that the Chickee is erected, we need your input again for the full patio, ideas and interior design. This is a project that belongs to all of us and let s have fun planning the finished project!!! Come see it and give out some ideas.. Thursday, October 16 th we had our District Deputy, Alan Mauk s, visit for his observance of our Thursday meeting and Initiation ritual and to check that our books and accounting records are being done properly. New Years Eve is in the planning stage and I am thinking to go casual to keep cost down. No shorts or flip flops! Long pants, dress shirt and ladies, you know how to dress for New Years Eve. We have Billy Ballew and the New River Boys hired for your dancing and entertainment. I will be in Orlando for mid-year state meetings Nov 14-15 catching up on what s new in Chicago. I ll let you know next month. Fraternally, Jesse Clemence, Exalted Ruler Elk Of The Month October Even though he came to visit, he never left! He cooks our Friday fish, he s the editor of our bulletin along with the chairman & committee, he landscapes, does pots and pans like a military man, runs errands, buys us lodge needs (anonymously) and gives generously. He looks after our Lodge like a 2 nd home and we have gained a valuable elk. Please don t go back to joisey DENNIS CANNON Elks Of The Month November This Elk has never said no and if he did----- his wife would say yes. They have done our sickness and distress and hospital visitations for 3 years faithfully. Cards, flowers, visits and whatever was needed to show Elks care about their members. Even though their donations of time working in the kitchen for functions, the bake sales, volunteering to help anywhere, chairing the kids parties for 2008 and their donations of the famous Ginny Parsons deviled eggs goes above and beyond the call of an Elk. Thank you Ted & Ginny Parsons for the valuable members that you are. Ted and Ginny Parsons This also happens to be our Sunday Brunch. Come on out, donate blood and enjoy the Sunday Brunch.. Free Brunch for all Donors.. Sign up at the Lodge. Questions: Contact Terry Pinkerton @954-448-3533

The Chinese auction produced over $300 and the larger gifts raffled (sorry Moe) brought in $275. The donations for the bake sale brought in another $40 and balloon darts brought in $52. With everything combined (food, prizes etc) we had a $2200 day. Accolades to all volunteers -kitchen, outside bar, inside bar, ticket takers, ticket sellers & everyone else involved, for a good day for our lodge. Keep up our good work, guys and gals. I can t do this without your support. Volume 08 Number 08 Page 7 Secretary s Corner Attention Activity and Committee Chairpersons: Rocco Caggiano wishes a transfer demit from Lodge 2273. James Roberts, member #1593, requests Life Membership in Hollywood West Lodge 2365. Congratulations and welcome to our two newest members, Hal Myrah and Craig Meligian. They were initiated 10/16 at our yearly DD visitation meeting. The DD visit went well for their yearly audit and checking how the Lodge is running. The Leading Knight will be sending out the Dinty Moore tickets, so please watch for them. It will be held on Friday evening, Dec 5th, this year, due to a conflict with a hall rental. As some of you may know, we have limited volunteers in the kitchen for weekday meals. We really need some volunteers to help us out for cooking on Mondays and some Fridays, even if it s just one time a month. So please step up and show us your hidden talents! Mid year meeting is coming up Nov 13-15 th in Orlando, which the Exalted Ruler and myself will need to attend. Grand Lodge has required that all lodge secretaries are using their CLMS program for membership and reports by 10/31/08. We are going to be doing just about everything online in the near future. Please don t forget our parking lot garage sale on Nov 22 nd. Call and reserve a space. The Grand Lodge has increased many of the scholarships for students graduating and for our legacy scholarships for our children and grandchildren. It s worth investigating at www.elks.org/enf/scholars/legacy/cfm. Fraternally, Jeanne Coffey, PER/Secretary The object of a Lodge newsletter is to keep the members of the Lodge informed of the activities of the Lodge. In order to get this information out in a timely manner, it is imperative to set deadlines for the input of information. I solicit any activity/committee chairperson to submit articles written/emailed to me for inclusion in the newsletter by established cutoff dates. Cutoff date for submissions has been established as the third (3rd) Tuesday of the month. Of course, early submissions are always welcome. Dennis A. Cannon/Editor dacannon@aol.com WHY VOLUNTEER? It s not medals won with pride. It s for that feeling deep inside. It s that reward down in your heart. It s feeling that you ve been a part Of helping others, far and near. That makes you be a volunteer! It s not for money, it s not for fame. It s not for any personal gain. It s just for love of fellow man. It s just to lend a helping hand. It s just to give a tithe of self, That s something you can t buy with wealth. The Lodge is Wireless! All members can use their computers in the lodge lounge through our wireless connection. Bring your laptop and try it out. See bartender for access code.
