Windsor Suites Quarterly Newsletter Spring 2016 Hello and welcome to Windsor Suites Spring Newsletter. Once again I would like to thank all the residents, families, friends and all the staff for making it such a fantastic and special Christmas and a happy New Year. I hope you had a chance to look at all the great photos that were taken over the Christmas period and shown in the extra Newsletter. If not I still have some available. Its official, spring is here. The snowdrops and daffodils are in full bloom. The clocks went forward on the 27th March and it is really nice to have lighter evenings. After the very busy festive season, there has been a slight slowing of pace at Pax Hill. We have had a variety of activities and entertainment for the start of the New Year. As the weather gets warm there are planned trips out to the local garden centres. Also it s the Queen s 90th birthday coming up and we are going to have a Tea Party in the Windsor lounge on the 21st April and a street party on the 2nd June to celebrate there Queens official birthday. We have also set a date for Pax Hill s summer fete. It will be on Saturday 2nd July, please make a note for your diaries. The next Residents Meeting will be held on the Wednesday 4th May at 1.30pm in the Windsor lounge. Details can be found at the back of this Newsletter and on the Windsor Suites notice board. Pony Pals back to visit Pax Hill Caroline from Pony Pals come back to visit us, as we had a great response from residents last year with Mr Cheddar the little white pony being very popular. This time Caroline brought a two year old miniature donkey called Mr Kipling. Mr Kipling went to all floors to meet residents in the lounge and in their rooms. He quite liked the lift with a bit of persuasion! Mr Kipling had a cross shaped mark on his back. Many donkeys have this mark across their backs, the Legend of the Donkey s Cross when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a small donkey. The little animal loved him so much that when he was sentenced to be crucified, it wanted to help him bear the burden of the cross. The donkey was driven away but returned to pay its respects when everyone else had gone. As it turned away, sadly, the shadow of the cross fell over its shoulders. The mark has remained there ever since as a permanent tribute to the donkey s love and loyalty.
Miranda s Musical Entertainment Miranda was a really class act wearing a lovely vintage dress and bright red lipstick. It took residents back to wartime dances at the palace. She sang a range of love songs from the 40 s and 50 s and played several instruments, the flute, saxophone and the clarinet. What a musical treat.
Valentine s Day at Pax Hill Love was in the air on and around the 14th February for Valentine s Day. We made hearts of all shapes and sizes to decorate the Windsor lounge. We had our annual Partners Valentines lunch in the Montgomery activities room. This year it was an intimate affair with a three course menu and romantic music to set the mood. Thank you to the kitchen staff for all their help to make it such a special time.
Happy Birthday TO Sidney, Joan Pike, Colin, Donald Raby Wright, Donald Rose
TIME FOR A CUPPA Time for a Cuppa was held in aid of Dementia UK on Thursday 3rd March. It was very well attended. Dr Zaki was asked to pick the Horses name out of the hat. The winning name was Winnie and it was won by the son of a resident on Balmoral Suites. Donations were made for tea and cakes, the raffle and guest the name of the pony. A total of 182.14 was raised. A really big thank to everyone for their generosity.
Windsor Activities News The Windsor Residents Meetings are going well and it s good to see so many residents getting involved and having their say. It was the Chinese New Year of the Monkey on the 8th February and residents on Windsor enjoyed a Chinese meal for lunch. We made our traditional collage of a monkey this year. Inter-unit dominoes, bingo, crossword club and sip and knit have been successful and will continue. It s that time again for the gardening club to start. There will be a meeting to decide what plants to grow for the summer fete plant stall. We will be having a visit to Gilbert White s Garden in Selborne, near Alton and local garden centres in the spring and summer months. Anyone wishing to go on any of the trips, please let me know. Bird World recently visited us and brought some very interesting animals and birds and it was lovely to see the residents interacting with them. There will be a jigsaw puzzle left out in the lounge for all residents, families and friends to whenever they wish. We had Phil entertaining residents for St Patricks Day, singing some lovely Irish ballads. He had a great voice. I hoped everyone had a very Happy Easter.
