SEABREEZE OCTOBER 2012 October Oversupply In the North Sea, October was a month characterised by oversupply of both PSVs and AHTS flooding the spot market. PSV average rates were both down on the same period last year and last month. AHTS rates suffered even more, being heavily down on the same period last year and significantly down on last month. Rather than a reduction in demand, the overriding problem for shipowners proved to be a spot market choked with vessels: a heightening of the problem that has been prevalent for much of 2012. However, it is not all doom and gloom for shipowners: the oil price remains high, encouraging oil companies to proceed with developments, and indeed the UK s latest licensing round attracted the highest number of applications for one round. Drilling activity is expected to remain constant throughout the winter, and rig owners continue to order newbuild units in anticipation of sustained activity on a long-term basis. Emerald Shines For DOF The Skandi Emerald has been signed up for a 220 day & 30 days option charter with an international charterer. The NOK 36 million contract commenced in October 2012 and is for work in waters off Latin America. The 16,000 BHP 201 tons bollard pull anchor handler is owned by Aker DOF Deepwater AS. Electra For Centrica Olympic Shipping s 2011 built PSV Olympic Electra has commenced a 90 day firm with four week options contract for Centrica. It is supporting the Noble Julie Robertson jack up rig in UK waters. A Valiant Effort From OIS Offshore Installation Services Ltd ( OIS ) has announced confirmation that it will mobilise the Island Valiant (pictured C/O David Dodds) light construction vessel in early November for a well abandonment campaign in the Southern North Sea. This decommissioning campaign will involve three UKCS operators and a programme of 10 mudline wells. OIS has a strong track record of successfully performing the permanent abandonment of suspended wells having completed over 100 of these projects since 1996. The 2012 multi-operator campaign will consist of the intervention and cementation of Category 2 mudline wells followed by the abrasive severance of Category 1 mudline wells located in the Southern North Sea with OIS providing full offshore and onshore project management services. DESIGN FEATURE: PAGE 3 STUNNA Page 3 Stunna... Far Solitaire This month s Page Three Stunna is the Far Solitaire. The UT 754 WP PSV design vessel was delivered by the STX Langsten shipyard in Norway and christened in Bergen this month. WP stands for wave piercing and it is through the design of the bow that the vessel can pierce through waves in extreme weather, maintaining a constant speed, reducing the fuel consumption and improving safety. This is also the first vessel being built to the IBC code / chemical tanker rules, allowing the vessel to load more than 800m3 of NLS products as type 2 chemicals on the IBC list. Other design features include DYNPOS AUTR, Clean Design notation, OILREC, ICE- C, LOA of 91.6m, large underdecks, methanol capacity, deck area of around 1020 m2 and accommodation for 25 persons. The Far Solitaire has now commenced a three month firm charter with Statoil, working in the Norwegian North Sea. Commencement of the contract is in May next year but before then the DP 2 field support / rescue vessel will continue to work for Conocophillips Norway until the end of this year. Mermaid To Make Splash For Santos Santos Limited has awarded a contract to Mermaid Marine Australia Limited for the 2007 built Mermaid Ranger AHT. The unit will provide marine support to Santos Modec Venture 11 FPSO in the Carnarvon Basin under a two year firm period with three x twelve month options. Santos FPSO services the Mutineer-Exeter fields and will also work on the Fletcher Finucane development in the future via a three well subsea tie back. This project should extend the economic life of the Mutineer-Exeter fields by up to four years. The A$15 million Mermaid Ranger contract commences in March 2013. 2 4

Conundrum Corner Last month s teaser was as follows!: A tramp was walking down a train track when he saw a train speeding towards him. Of course he jumped off the track but before he jumped, he ran five metres towards the train. Why? The answer was that the tramp was either in a tunnel or on a bridge. The winner of last month s competition is : John Cunningham This month, our poser is as follows! : A bus driver was heading down a street in Aberdeen. He went right past a stop sign without stopping, he turned left where there was a 'no left turn' sign and he went the wrong way on a one-way street. Then he went on the right side of the road past a police car. Still - he didn't break any traffic laws. Why not?
