Issue 16 Wednesday, October 18, 2017 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE: This week our guest speaker is club member Eddie Woodwell who will talk about Facebook. Also, we are very pleased to welcome Brendon Gunning and the Mercy College Interact students who may well teach Eddie a thing or two about his chosen topic. Ross Walker President, Mackay West Rotary Grace We break the bread of brotherhood. We thank thee Lord for all things good. May we, more blessed than we deserve. Live less for self and more to serve. Following a late announcement that the Boomerang was not available last week, we had a successful meeting at the Shamrock. It was good to welcome three guests as well. Guest speaker Mick Crowe, CEO of G & S Engineering, spoke about the ups and downs of the coal industry. The future for our region appears positive especially from a metallurgical coal perspective. The Mental Health and Well Being Fair, an initiative of Group 1 clubs, was held over the weekend. The Fair had 56 stalls and over 1000 attended which is larger than last year. Well done to DG Nominee Michael Buckeridge and committee. Our club assisted and thank you to those members who attended. The next two weeks will be quite busy. Together with our wives, John Palmer, Bruce Howlett, Des Sievers and I will be travelling to the District Conference and AGM at Agnes Waters this weekend. Coming up, there are also two barbeques at Council facilities, the Christmas Fair and the Mackay Club meeting with associated raffle proceeds going to the Mackay Drop-in Centre. The ladies require assistance on Monday, October 16 at 9 am to make lamingtons for the Fair and will meet at Eric and Sina s, 42 Peel Street. They also need home baking (cakes, lollies, jams etc) so if you can assist, it would be greatly appreciated. Ian Riseley President, Rotary International The 2020 District 9570 Convention will be hosted by Group 1 clubs in Mackay. Chair of the organising committee is club member Col Meng; I am also a member.
