Its national parks are filled with a staggering variety of fauna, from tree-climbing lions to magnificent mountain gorillas, whilst its bird life includes a cast of characters as diverse as African fish eagles, red-throated bee eaters and elusive shoebills. And all set against an African landscape as equally rich in colour and beauty. Beginning in Entebbe, your adventure then takes you west, towards the game-rich plains of the Murchison Falls National Park. After a stop en route to visit the renowned rhino sanctuary at Ziwa, you ll then spend the next few days enjoying the lakes and landscapes of the spectacular Albertine Rift Valley. Flying on to Queen Elizabeth National Park next, your journey then heads towards the home of Uganda s famed tree-climbing lions at Ishasha. The final leg of the journey then provides the stunning climax to this incredible adventure, as you travel deep into the impenetrable forests of Bwindi, one of the last refuges of the mountain gorillas. Here, in the company of expert trackers, you will search out these majestic animals and spend an unforgettable moment of time in their company. ITINERARY DAY 1: ENTEBBE Arriving into Entebbe today, you will be met and driven on to your hotel for the evening. After a chance to freshen up, the rest of the day is then free to relax and enjoy at your leisure. DAY 2: ENTEBBE - MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK After being collected from the hotel after breakfast you will be driven on to the Murchison Falls National Park this morning, lying at the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley. Stopping en route to visit the famous Ziwa rhino sanctuary, you will eventually arrive at your lodge in time to settle into your room before embarking on a late afternoon game drive through the park. (B,L,D) DAY 3: MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK Murchison Falls is Uganda's oldest and largest conservation area and is home to over 70 species of mammals and an incredibly rich diversity of birds. Beginning early today, you will enjoy breakfast at the lodge before taking advantage of the cool of the morning and the spectacular light to make the most of some superb game viewing and photo opportunities. Lunch will then be followed by an afternoon's boat ride up to the spectacular Murchison Falls. (B,L,D) DAY 4: MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK A morning's boat ride takes you out into the delta where Lake Albert and the River Nile meet, the perfect spot to enjoy a bush breakfast and a chance to spot rare shoebills along the lake shore. Returning to the lodge for a rest, you will then head out later to enjoy an evening game drive amongst the wilds of the park. (B,L,D) DAY 5: MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK - QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK A final game drive through the park this morning brings you to the airstrip at Kihihi, where you will catch a light aircraft down to the Ishasha section of the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Located in the southern section of the park, after a chance to settle in to your room, this evening offers a chance to take a game drive along the shores of Lake Edward to enjoy the spectacular sunset. DAY 6: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK A full day of safari activities in the park begins this morning with an early game drive, the perfect setting in which to enjoy the crisp morning light and take in the sweeping views of the game moving serenely across the mist-shrouded plains. Lunch at the lodge will then be followed later with a chance to view the park's famous and popular tree-climbing lions. (B,L,D) DAY 7: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK Your final day at Queen Elizabeth provides ample opportunities for more game drives and a last chance to enjoy the tranquil surroundings of the lodge. An afternoon game drive will then be followed by sundowners on the shores of Lake Edward, the perfect way to round off your time in this extraordinary landscape. (B,L,D) DAY 8: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK - BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST After a final morning spent exploring the last of Queen Elizabeth National Park you will then make the short road journey on to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Arriving in time for lunch, the rest of the afternoon is then free to relax before tomorrow morning's gorilla trek. (B,L,D) DAY 9: BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST Mountain gorillas are amongst the most unique and fascinating mammals left on the planet. There are estimated to be around 320 living amongst the rainforests of southwestern Uganda and today you will head out in small groups, walking anything from one to three hours to find them. Once found, you will have around an hour to spend with them, quietly enjoying the interaction of the family groups before you head back to the lodge. So put your camera down and savour the moment. (B,L,D) DAY 10: BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST A stunning area of natural beauty, Bwindi is home to so much more than just the gorillas. Guided walks through the forest provides a chance to see a variety of other primates, as well as an abundance of bird life. This area is also one of the last refuges of the Batwa pygmies, who have lived amongst these forested mountains for millennia. In the afternoon visit a nearby village and visit a traditional medicine man. He will show you some of the herbs that grow in the forest and talk about how they are used. (B,L,D)

DAY 11: BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST - ENTEBBE After a leisurely morning you will be collected from the lodge and driven back to the Kihihi Airstrip for the flight back to Entebbe. (B)

ACCOMMODATION BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST MAHOGANY SPRINGS Mahogany Springs is one of the newest and best lodges in the area surrounding the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and ideal for those looking for true luxury when enjoying their gorilla tracking. Commanding a wonderful position overlooking the Munyanga River, the lodge has a truly idyllic location and creates memories that will last for a lifetime. With eight Superior Suites and a two-bedroom Presidential Suite, this is a small lodge allowing for a wonderfully private experience should guests wish, but also offering a friendly atmosphere which is always important. All of the suites are very spacious and comfortable with private terraces, mosquito net draped beds and power points. The en-suite bathrooms have hot and cold running water and full amenities are provided. The Presidential Suite has two en-suite bedrooms, a small sitting area and gorgeous terrace which offers stunning views out across the forest. The main area of the lodge is home to the superb restaurant where delicious a la carte meals are enjoyed, a lovely bar area and comfortable lounge which is a great spot to relax after a busy day exploring the area. The fireplace is a popular place to congregate in the evenings and discuss the wonders of a day exploring Bwindi and tracking its iconic gorilla population. Gorilla tracking permits will need to be booked and paid for in advance of your arrival, but the lodge does offer a variety of other activities including bird watching trips, participation in tree planting programmes, nature walks and interactions with the local Batwa pygmies. The chef is also happy to take guests on tours of his kitchen garden. ENTEBBE BOMA GUEST HOUSE Only a few minutes drive from Entebbe Airport, the Boma Guest House is set within a leafy suburb of Entebbe. Enter the flower filled garden to reach an intimate atmosphere characterful of an original 1940 s home. The colonial building is adorned with English-colonial furniture and African fabrics. You will see the lounge and reception area, where you use the Wi-Fi and the hotel computer to connect with friends and family. The restaurant and bar, serving European, Indian and Mediterranean cuisine, leads onto the terrace overlooking the gardens and Lake Victoria, the perfect spot for afternoon tea. MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

BAKERS LODGE Idyllically located on the Southern banks of the mighty River Nile, the beautifully styled Baker s Lodge is a wonderfully comfortable spot from which to explore the endless expanses of the game-rich Murchison Falls National Park. Each of the eight safari suites are all very spacious and set beneath the shade of large trees away from the water s edge. Inside they are very spacious and comfortable with large windows which look out towards the Nile. The beds are draped in mosquito nets and ceiling fans help to keep guests cool during summer. There are en-suite bathrooms in each suite with some of these boasting views out towards the river. As with most safari lodges, the food is an important element of any stay and the centrally located restaurant and bar area acts as the social hub of the lodge. Guests are welcome to serve themselves drinks throughout the day and in the evenings the firepit is lit on the lawn and this is a very popular place to congregate and share tales of a day in the bush. There is a lovely swimming pool at the lodge and the small curio shop has a variety of locally crafted gifts for sale. The lodge offers a variety of activities that can be booked and paid for on a local basis including trips to The Murchison Falls, cruises to the Nile Delta and Lake Albert and fishing trips. Of course, game drives are a popular way to spend some time, with a wide variety of animal life found within the park. QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK ISHASHA WILDERNESS CAMP Boasting a wonderful location in the Southern sector of the Queen Elizabeth National Park, Ishasha Wilderness Camp is a wonderfully traditional lodge and an ideal base for safari purists looking to explore this iconic Ugandan National Park. There are ten spacious tents here, all of which look out across the waters of the Ntungwe River. Inside the tents are very comfortable with mosquito net draped beds, en-suite bathrooms with full amenities and small verandas at the front where guests can relax in the afternoons. The social hub of the lodge is the large thatchroofed main area which houses the lounge, dining room and bar. The lounge is open sided so guests can gaze out across the bush to the river and take in the sights and sounds of the African wilderness. There is a small curio shop at the lodge where guests can by a range of locally crafted gifts. Activities here can be arranged and paid for locally, with guests able to enjoy a wide range of things to do. Chief amongst these activities are game drives, with early morning and late afternoon departures to spot the abundant animal life of the park. In addition to this boat cruises, community visits, hot air ballooning and chimpanzee trekking can all be arranged.

KATARA LODGE Katara Lodge is found 16kms from the Katunguru gate of the Queen Elizabeth National Park and boasts stunning views across Lake Edward and towards the distant Rwenzori Mountains. It is a superb lodge for enjoying all of the activities for which the region is so well-known and a wonderful spot to relax in the evenings after a busy day exploring. The cottages all have canvas walls with thatched rooves and are raised up on stilts to give them panoramic views out over the surrounding area. Inside they are very spacious and comfortable with hardwood floors, mosquito net draped beds and small inside sitting areas. Private decks provide further space to relax on and enjoy the stunning views. The en-suite bathrooms boast freestanding baths, walk-in showers and all the amenities one could wish for. The main part of the lodge is a lovely open-plan lounge and dining area which also houses the cozy bar and is the social hub of the lodge. Beneath the lodge there is a sparkling swimming pool which is a great spot to spend the afternoons taking in the stunning views towards the Queen Elizabeth National Park. A variety of activities can be added to a stay at Katara Lodge including game drives within the park, boat cruises on the Kazinga Channel, hot air balloon safaris and chimpanzee trekking in the Kyambura Gorge.
