Harris Blvd and I-85, University Place includes office, regional shopping and a major hotel. It serves as the center of University City. Major retailers, hospitality, health care, higher education and business/academic research are located in direct proximity to. The prime frontage on US 29 provides excellent visibility. UNC Charlotte with a student population in excess of 26,000, the Charlotte Research Institute and CMC University Hospital lie across US 29. In the first three months of 2013 the University Research Park business community announced the addition of an estimated two thousand jobs, $100 million in new investment with the acquisition or expansion of nine firms. The Charlotte Area Transportation System (CATS) has approved a light rail transit line extending along US 29 past and into UNC Charlotte campus.
