2018 Summer Engineering Camp The 4th Annual Eastern NC Elementary School Engineering Camp was held on July 9-13, 2018 at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center. Fifty rising 4th, 5th and 6th grade students were involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities. The instructors were teachers from Craven and Carteret County Schools, Fleet Readiness Center East Engineers, and ECAHF Volunteers. Each day, students were challenged with new and exciting tasks using the Engineering Process ask, imagine, plan, create, and improve. On Tuesday, July 10, the students participated in a NASA International Space Station Downlink. Students provided questions to ask Astronaut Alex Gerst. What an experience!
2018 Family Fly-In and Movie Night Friday, June 8, 2018 More than 200 families enjoyed a night of fun at the Family Fly-In and Movie Night. Eleven booths were set-up to provide STEM activities for all. Many thanks to the volunteers that shared their expertise, which included meteorology, aerodynamics, explosive ordnance technology, engineering, fire/rescue, CB radio, drones, H46, flight gear, and ejection seats. The Havelock Tourist & Event Center suffered water damage from Hurricane Florence, so everything had to be professionally cleaned. The Biplane is back up in its resting place in the Bravo Room. All the exhibits survived the water unscathed. Although the Center is closed for repairs, the aircraft outside the building continue to attract visitors.
