December 2018 Vol. 59-09 P O R T T O W N S E N D 3 1 7 Good December everyone. Well the carpeting is in, the chairs in the Lodge have been recovered, and we have new heat pumps to keep us warm this winter. All in all it sounds good to me. Thank you everyone who donated to make this happen. Shortly you will be seeing a plaque in the Lodge with the names of all these fine people on it. Jim Bumgarner headed up all this work. Thank you, Jim. It was a job well done as usual. Our annual Bonzo s Thanksgiving Dinner really went well. The food was wonderful. Thank you, Denise Craig, Ken Meehan, Jeremy Clemons and crew. Also, thank you, members who came and brought a scrumptious dish. We really have some great cooks that belong to our lodge or are spouses of our members. Christmas is coming up. We will be having our Tom and Jerry Party on Friday, December 14th. So, all of you come out in your Christmas Finery and have a Hot Buttered Rum or an Eggnog drink. We will also be having the Veterans Christmas Party and the Children s Christmas Party on Saturday the 15th. Please don t forget our Toys for Tots box. It is located in the lodge entry way. This year seemed to go fast, didn t it? For all of you that have asked, the Veterans Fundraiser raised over $13,000.00 thanks to all of you. Thank you, Dave Crozier and crew, for cooking, and to all the members of the Veteran s Committee for putting it on. We will be having our annual Big Apple New Years Eve Party. Our dinner for the evening will feature Prime Rib and all the fixings for $25.00 per person. We will have music to dance to thanks to Steve Spencer. So, put on your party clothes and come on out and have a good time with us. Denise Craig and crew will be cooking, and Linda DeLeo and I will help serve. By the way the Lodge is open on Sunday for the Seahawk games. Come and join us. Bring a snack to share. We have been having a good time and can get a little rowdy. Denise opens the bar one hour prior to the game and is ready to start mixing drinks. See you all at the Lodge. The busy holiday season is upon us, as is the end of the year. As you plan your finances for 2018, please keep the Port Townsend Elks Scholarship Association in mind for a donation. We are a 501 C3 organization. There may be tax advantages for your donation. Our Lodge has a very active scholarship program, and is a leader in our area in awarding scholarships to some very deserving students. I am amazed every year at the achievements of the applicants we get. To see firsthand the benefit of our scholarship awards is truly amazing. Please consider the Port Townsend Elks #317 Scholarship Association in your charitable planning for 2018. 2018 MEMORIAL SERVICE The 2018 Elks memorial service will be conducted at 12 PM on Sunday, December 2nd in the lodge room. Thank you, Ken Meehan, Lodge Secretary Washington State Elks Association 2019 Calendar Raffle Calendars are selling for $10.00 each. When a calendar is sold, the seller will have the buyer fill out the ticket portion of the calendar showing their name, address, phone number, their Lodge number and their membership number. The concept of a calendar raffle is very simple. Each day on the calendar has a monetary amount designated as the prize for that day (i.e. weekdays = $25.00; weekends = $50.00; holidays = $100.00, etc.) February 16th, which is the birthday of our Order, is worth $500.00. Beginning January 1, 2019, and each day thereafter until December 31, 2019, a member of the WSEA office staff will draw a ticket from the barrel. This will be the winning ticket for the day. Checks will be mailed to each winner within seven days of the drawing. WSEA staff will then return the winning ticket into the raffle barrel prior to the next drawing. Call our Exalted Ruler, Billie Fullerton to purchase your calendar at 360 302-0054.
