The Monthly Newsletter of The Central Florida Metal Detecting Club Carolyn Harwick: From The President s Desk I hope everyone had a safe and fun Labor Day weekend. We are finally getting closer to the fall season and the temperatures are hopefully going to start to drop. That means all of us who have been avoiding getting out in the 100+ degree weather are finally going to get to get out again and start making some great metal detecting finds. SEPTEMBER 2018 before we meet with the Volusia County Counsel next month. Remember one of the benefits of attending this training and getting certified is that you will be invited to attend exclusive hunts for members that have been certified. I am currently working to get one of these permissions for us to go to in the next month or two, if all works out. The board has been working hard behind the scenes and have some exciting news coming up in the near future. I want to thank all of our board members for the hard work and many hours that they all put in for our club. Without them, I would lose my mind. This month s club hunt is going to be on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 8:00 pm at Frank Rendon Park. It is located at 2705 S Atlantic Ave. Daytona Beach, FL 32118. Remember this is a night beach hunt and no lights are allowed. Also, only members that are hunting are allowed on the hunt field. We will be having our second certification class on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 10:00 am. It will be at the church pavilion (453 W. Highbanks Rd, Debary). We have currently certified 29 members and would like to reach at least 50 members Remember, this meeting is the last meeting to bring in your bottle caps that I have been requesting. I hope we get a lot this meeting. Finally, this month s meeting will be the first meeting that we will be judging the best display. As a reminder, this category is a test for the next 3 months to see how it goes and will not be included in the point count. I hope to see some awesome displays at the meeting! See you at the next meeting. Carolyn

Secretary s Report August 2018 Meeting Notes By: Michael McClure The August meeting of the Central Florida Metal Detecting Club was called to order at 7:30 pm, August 10, by club president, Carolyn Harwick. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Marc Hoover. Secretary Report July minutes accepted as published. July newsletter: It was noted on page 3, Stash Duzlak s name was misspelled, and Sarah Richter s last name was missing. Treasurer Report Chuck Hosbein was absent. The Treasurers report read by club secretary Michael McClure.. Jim Fielding- 7 first time guests were welcomed to the meeting. Certificates of Appreciation: Jeanne Cygan and Ron Caiazza received awards for returning WWII dog tags to the family of a passed service member. Mike Grace was unsuccessful in locating a lost ring at the beach. Brent Petherick was also unsuccessful in his attempt to find a lost ring. Karen and Ken Arrington had better luck in locating a lost ring, returning it to the owner. Vickie Chilla got her award for also locating and returning a lost ring. Patti and Jim Fielding searchrd for a lost ring. Unfortunately, they found a different ring. Lee Noga found and returned a dog tag. Jim Fielding- Birthdays for August: Carolyn Harwick, Don Cole, Deborah Guimond, Jeanne Cygan, Jim Hooks, Orville Powers, Silvia Lee, Beatriz Taylor, Caitlin Lee. Anniversaries: Gail and Marc Hoover, Clay Murchinson Carolyn Harwick- No club hunt for August. The CFMDC takes August off due to the high temperatures during the month. We will have an evening club hunt September 22 at the beach. More details to follow. There will be an evidence search in Osceola County for a weapon on August 14. A signup sheet is at the front of the room. Carolyn had Bill Green, Ron Caiazzz, Kathy Waters, Gary Flatt and Alan James relate their experiences of other evidence searches. Conditions can be oppressive and dangerous, but the club has assisted in gathering items that have put criminals behind bars.

Carolyn Harwick- Please bring in your found bottle caps. The club is collecting these for a local school. Also turn in your found (and personal ) pull tabs to Bill Shackelford. These are given to the Ronald McDonald House. Debbie Bishop and Debbie Green were asked to stand as they were recognized for their volunteer service in the club. The club Holiday Party will be December 14. It was proposed that it be catered this year. The club voted YES. The party will be members only, with desserts being provided by the club members. Marc Hoover- The board will be testing a category for the finds table. It is Best Display. It can be creative, humorous or just stylish. It must be within the size restraints of current displays. The board will try this for three months. Break Refreshments, finds table voting Carolyn Harwick- TECH TALK Hunts Across the Country.
