Introduction Introduction to Safety Manual This is a safety manual for Batman: The Ride to protect the guests from harm, and Six Flags over Texas from losing money. In the safety manual you will find procedures to prevent harmful situations for guests, along with procedures in case accidents do happen. The manual includes cleaning and operational procedures to follow before the opening of the ride, and after closing. Also included in the manual is where and how to receive medical attention. The safety manual will help prevent injuries to the guests, and prevent lawsuits against Six Flags over Texas for medical expenses in case of an accident. The safety manual is a way for Six Flags over Texas to protect itself from any unnecessary spending. v

Chapter 1

Chapter 1 Chapter 1: Preventative Procedures Pre Work Training Course The newly hired employees of Batman: The Ride shall attend a mandatory training course to learn the proper procedures of operating the ride. The training course will cover the following: A tour of the park and the ride Safety guidelines for the entire park Loading and unloading the trains with the riders The correct verbal commands of the ride Checking the riders heights Checking the riders restraints Sending the trains Safety guidelines covered in the safety manual for the ride Guest interaction will also be taught in the training course. There are times when guests are unhappy, and there are procedures to handle the situation correctly. Prior to Open Preparations The employees must prepare the ride and facilities prior to the opening of the ride every morning. The ride and facilities must look appealing to the customers to uphold the representation of cleanliness that Six Flags prides itself on. The employees that are opening for the day should arrive early to complete the following cleaning checklist: Wipe down the control panel. Wipe down the seats of the ride. Wipe down the guests storage bins. Sweep the ride loading area. Sweep the whole line of the ride. (Note that Batman: The Ride has an extensive line) Pick up and throw away all trash throughout the line and around the ride area. Empty trash bins into the dumpster. Fill the employee water cooler with water. Stock the employee cups for water. The cleaning supplies are in the supply closet located outside of the exit door. The dumpsters are next to the exit ramp. (See figure 1A) Figure 1A 3

Proposal for Safety Manual on Batman: The Ride Test Run Procedures After the completion of the cleaning checklist, the ride operators must test the ride three times prior to its opening. There must be at least four employees to safely test the ride. Two employees must operate the ride s controls. The other two must ride on the trains to ensure the ride is running correctly. 1. Pull down and secure each restraint on both trains, and fasten all seatbelts. 2. Report and have replaced any broken restraint or seatbelt prior to the rides opening. 3. Send the first run empty for employee safety. 4. Send the second run with one employee riding in the front row and the other riding in the back row of the train while the other employees operate the controls. 5. Flip the employees on the third run. Have the employees that rode on the second run, operate on the third run, and vice versa. Batman: The Ride The employees switch jobs in order to get as many evaluations from different aspects of the ride as possible to ensure that it is running safely. If there are any malfunctions, the ride must close until mechanics can fix the problem. 4

Chapter 2

Chapter 2 Chapter 2: Accident Procedures Minor Physical Injury In the event of a minor physical injury to a rider, there are certain procedures that employees need to follow. The employees on duty must all sign the paperwork stating that the rider received the proper care for their injury. The employees shall also ask the rider if they will sign the document stating that they received the proper care for their injury. If the rider refuses to sign the document, the employees must contact a supervisor immediately. Employees must refer to the first aid kit to treat the injuries. Make sure to refer the guest to the Care Center in the park for any further treatment. A minor injury consists of those that do not require professional care to treat. These injuries can consist of cuts, scratches, small bruises, etc. Any injury that employees can handle on site can be considered a minor injury. Major Physical Injury In the event of a major physical injury, there are more severe procedures that employees must follow. 1. Call 911 immediately. 2. Call a supervisor. 3. Shut down the ride until the authorities can identify the cause of the accident and repair it. A major physical injury consists of anything that requires professional medical attention. These injuries can consist of broken bones, head trauma, or even death. First Aid Kit The first aid kit should be hanging on the wall of the control booth at all times. The first aid kit contains the necessary items to treat minor injuries. The first aid kit contains: 2 absorbent compress dressings (5 x 9 inches) 25 adhesive bandages (assorted sizes) 1 adhesive cloth tape (10 yards x 1 inch) 5 antibiotic ointment packets (approximately 1 gram) 5 antiseptic wipe packets 2 packets of aspirin (81 mg each) 1 instant cold compress 2 pair of nonlatex gloves (size: large) 2 hydrocortisone ointment packets (approximately 1 gram each) Scissors 1 roller bandage (3 inches wide) 7

Proposal for Safety Manual on Batman: The Ride First Aid Kit Continued 1 roller bandage (4 inches wide) 5 sterile gauze pads (3 x 3 inches) 5 sterile gauze pads (4 x 4 inches) 2 triangular bandages Tweezers First aid instruction booklet For any injuries that the first aid kit is unable to manage, please refer the guest to the Care Center. Clean Up Procedures Six Flags over Texas takes pride in the cleanliness of their park. To ensure the continuity of this image, employees must keep the park clean. Any trash seen throughout the park must be thrown away or recycled. The employees of Batman: The Ride must clean throughout the day to maintain the cleanliness of the ride. Bodily Fluids In the event of an accident resulting in the spill of bodily fluids, whether it is blood or vomit, the employees must clean it up using the vomit and bodily fluid kit. The kit contains: 1 Pack of Clean-up absorbent powder 1 Pair of latex gloves 1 Scoop 1 Scraper 1 Red biohazard bag with tie 1 Quaternary Germicidal cloth 2 Disposable towels 1 Antiseptic hand wipe 1 Pair of disposable goggles 1 Disposable apron 1 Disposable face splash protector 1 Pair of disposable shoe covers Figure 2A The vomit and bodily fluid kit is next to the first aid kit on the wall of the control booth. After every use, the employees should replace the used items with new ones from the supply closet. The employees must block off the area and place a wet floor sign there until the spill is properly taken care of. (See figure 2A) 8

Chapter 2 After Closing After the closing of the ride for the day, the employees must complete another cleaning checklist to prepare the ride for the next day s opening. The post-closing checklist is as follows: Pick up any trash around the loading area and throughout the line. Make sure the ride is shut down completely.
