John Nicholls Equipment Mgr. / Storekeeper John Richardson WebMaster Ken Henderson Newsletter Editor Tom Phipps Notes from the President: Jim Walters I've spent the last few days trying to understand the mystique of the annual Bean Station Dixielander Rally. There were 51 coaches and 106 people in attendance this year, including 5 first-timers. How can one event draw almost half the attendance of a GMCMI Rally? Having eliminated the obvious, i.e., location, facilities, attractions, etc, the answer comes into focus. Its the people!!! The Spring Rally at Bean Station is not a rally!! Its a reunion, an expanded Dixielander family reunion!! And each year it just gets better and better! Marti, Al, JR and Jeanie; you outdid yourselves this year! We tip our hat to you and to all of you who worked tirelessly to make the rally a super event. Although it rained, I didn't hear the first person complain. Obviously, the focus was directed on friends, food and fellowship. Several events linger in my memory including "Poodle" skirts, Ike Grove winning the "Derby" pool for two out of the last three years, outstanding food, the movie "Sea Biscuit," and Elmer Olsen's record for the shortest food "blessing" ever given! As always the pit was continuously in use and it seemed that wherever there was grease, Bill Bramlett was in the middle of it. That he and Bobbie would make the trek from Estes Park, CO to be with us says a lot. And what a pleasure it was to have Nell Toole and daughter Vonnie, Marie Hudson, Mary Bezy, Allene Burdette and Ray Bingham, (those who have lost their pilot/navigator) with us. Isn't it great to have a wonderful extended family called the GMC Dixielanders? See you in Maggie Valley, NC. Jim Walters Notes from the Editor: Tom Phipps And a good time was had by All! Enjoying the company and the food with the great GMC Crowd is what it is about. 51 coaches is a very nice sized crowd. I even managed to work on my own coach, even if it was Monday. New Brakes pads, nice. Helped John Richardson install the new 4 bag system, report promised next issue. On to Maggie Valley!
