Canada Country Information The Country Canada is the second largest country in the world after Russia, covering an area of 9,984,670 sq km. It is bordered to the west by the Pacific Ocean and Alaska, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean and to the south by the USA. The landscape is diverse, ranging from the Arctic tundra of the north to the great prairies of the central area. Westward are the Rocky Mountains and in the southeast are the Great Lakes, the St Lawrence River and Niagara Falls. The Agriculture Canada is the fifth largest agricultural exporter in the world but only 7% of Canada s land area is suitable for farming, the majority of which is located in Western Canada. The largest farms can be found in the west where they produce oilseeds, wheat, barley and beef in large quantities. Canada also produces around 85% of the worlds maple syrup and they are the largest grower of canola, pulses and flax seeds. The Weather Canada s climate varies based on geography from perma-frost in the north to four distinct seasons as you move further south. Temperatures can climb up to 35 C in the summer and descend to 25 C during winter and is characterised by its diversity. Most Canadian cities are within 300km of the southern border where mild springs, hot summers and crisp autumns are common during the majority of the year. The People Canada has a history of emigration primarily by the British and the French, but it is now full multicultural, including the First National population. MAIN TOUR ITINERARY - VICTORIA ISLAND TO CALGARY Day 1 Wednesday 26th June (Meals in flight) Fly from London to Vancouver Airport for a connecting flight to Vancouver Island. Take a private transfer to the hotel where you will join the rest of the group and meet with your guide. 2 night stay in Victoria. Day 2 Thursday 27th June Breakfast. Tour of Victoria and visit the beautiful Butchart Gardens, a 130 acre floral extravaganza carved out of an old limestone quarry. Visit a local farm before returning to Victoria for a welcome dinner. Day 3 Friday 28th June Breakfast and check out. Transfer to Vancouver by ferry. Enjoy a tour of the wonderful city including Stanley Park, Granville Island and the water front area. Depart to Westminster to check in for dinner and overnight. Day 4 Saturday 29th June Breakfast and check out. Today you will explore the Fraser River region. Enjoy the journey through this majestic valley with its lush fruit orchards and spectacular scenery. Visit a dairy operation and a horticultural enterprise such as lavender, fruit or a wine producer. Continue to the Okanagan Township to check in to the hotel for a 1 night stay. Dinner in the hotel. Day 5 Sunday 30th June Breakfast and check out. Travel to The Rocky Mountains. It is Canada Day so enjoy Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks on one of the most scenic highways in the world. Enjoy a short walk in the mountains before arriving at your hotel for a 1 night stay including dinner in Saskatchewan Crossing. Day 6 Monday 1st July Breakfast and check out. Depart to Jasper National Park enjoying miles of captivating scenery with the possibility of seeing bears, moose, deer and other wildlife common in the area, as you pass through alpine meadows, waterfall and glacier masses. Take a ride on the glacier in a snow-coach at Athabasca Glacier before departing to stunning Lake Louise. Lunch included. Enjoy free time at the lake before checking into your Banff hotel for a 2 night stay. Evening at leisure. Day 7 Tuesday 2nd July Breakfast. Tour the Banff surrounding area including Bow Falls, Tunnel Mountain and the Hoodoo Rock. Take a Gondola ride up to the top of Sulphur Mountain to enjoy spectacular views of The Rocky Mountains. Return to Banff for free time to explore. In the evening enjoy dinner at a western cookout. Day 10 Friday 5th July Day 8 Wednesday 3rd July Breakfast and check out. Travel on to Alberta, one of the largest agricultural areas in Canada. Visit a purebred cattle ranch and the modern Hutterite colony cooperative farm. Lunch on the farm. Check in to Alberta hotel for a 2 night stay. Evening at leisure. Day 9 Thursday 4th July Breakfast. Spend the day visiting local farms, including a sheep breeding operation, a seed farm, a bison/buffalo cropping operation, a 20,000 head beef feedlot growing canola and wheat crops. Lunch included. Evening in Alberta at leisure. Breakfast and check out. Travel to Calgary to visit the greatest outdoor show on earth, the Calgary Stampede, including the Rodeo with bucking broncos, bull riding and steer roping. Reserved seats included. Transfer by coach to Waterloo region and check in for a 2 night stay. Dinner the in hotel. Day 13 Monday 8th July (BLD) Breakfast. Spend the day visiting farms in the Southern Ontario region including a modern dairy farm, a beef feedlot, a sheep feedlot, a pure bred angus beef herd and cropping operation and then enjoy a BBQ style lunch on a farm before returning to the hotel for dinner and overnight. Day 14 Tuesday 9th July Breakfast and check out. Depart for Mennonite country and Niagara Falls, one of the World s Wonders. Explore the many sights such as the boat ride to the base of the falls, a journey behind the falls, White Water Walk or perhaps Fury (a 4D sensation). Check in to your hotel for a 1 night stay. Enjoy dinner overlooking Niagara Falls. Day 15 Wednesday 10th July Breakfast and check out. Check out of the hotel and depart for Ottawa, Canada s capital city. En-route visit a soybean operation facility that processes and customises its product to suit individual clients. Continue to Ottawa and check in to your hotel for a 2 night stay. Dinner in a local restaurant. Day 16 Thursday 11th July Breakfast. Take a city tour followed by a visit to Byward Market, which still has a farmers market, that began in the 19 th Century. In the afternoon, visit the Canadian Museum of History and enjoy free time to explore the city. Day 17 Friday 12th July (BLD) Breakfast and check out. Depart Ottawa and head toward French speaking Quebec. En-route take lunch at the Maple Sugar Shack where you can learn how maple syrup is produced. Check in to your hotel in Charlevoix for a 1 night stay. Dinner in hotel. Day 18 Saturday 13th July Breakfast and check out. Visit a Charlevoix lamb enterprise with emphasis on how lambs get the destination of origin certification, visit to an apple cider producer and an interesting duck Foie Gras operation. Visit a cheese producer milking hundreds of sheep before departing to Quebec city. The hotel is located close to the old walled part of the city where the summer festival is in its final days and performers and music will be everywhere. Check in for a 2 night stay. Dinner of own accord. Day 19 Sunday 14th July Breakfast. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the Walled City, strolling the quaint shops and galleries. Rest of the day free to explore or just relax and enjoy the ambiance of the summer festival. Day 20 Monday 15th July Breakfast and check out. Head to Montreal in preparation for your departure to London. En-route visit a manufacturer who designs, fabricates and distributes feed handling equipment. Mid afternoon arrive, check in to your Montreal hotel and enjoy a farewell dinner. Day 21 Tuesday 16th July Breakfast and check out. Transfer to the airport for your overnight flight to London.
