At Dale Green s HOA Clubhouse 10:00 a.m. Chairman Ramblings- By Rick Smiley How about our Fall Chapter Judging Meet!! In my unbiased opinion it was our best Judging Meet ever. We had the privilege to look over not one but two extremely fine examples of the Corvette world. For starters, we had Dave Dennis s Sebring Silver 1963 Fuel Injection roadster, which earned Bloomington Gold at this year s event in Indianapolis. Joining Dave s car on the judging field was Brad Hillhouse s Red 9,600 mile original 1981 Corvette. This was the cars first visit to the Judging floor. Both cars TOP FLIGHTED! Congratulations to both owners and their cars. Thank you for giving our chapter the opportunity to judge such great cars. Although we had great cars, the one thing that stands out with me was the amount of interest from our members. We had the most volunteer judges we have ever had, and a few were first timers. I want to acknowledge all the judges and especially those that drove great distances to join us. Thanks go out to all of you. Without your assistance our event would not have been a success. With October comes the Chapter s annual Octoberfeast at Dale Green s club house. (map is attached) Meat and drinks will be supplied by the club. As always, we ask that you bring your favorite SIDE DISH or dessert. There will be a short chapter meeting prior to chowing down. And then there is the Texas Regional in Frisco, Texas. This will run from October 25 th thru the 27 th. I am sure we will see a few of our members there. The last item I would like to remind our members about is the upcoming NCRS Judges Training Retreat. This will be held in Grapevine, Texas. The dates are March 14 th thru 17 th, 2019. I suggest you register early. For more information see the latest front page of the NCRS Driveline. I lied! I do have one more item. Nominations for Chapter officers will take place at the October meeting, with elections being held in December. In closing please remember that dues will be due soon, so to keep the (continue on page 2) Midway USA Tune Up

Kellogg Wichita, KS (316) 749-4000 Proudly sponsors Midway USA Chapter of NCRS PV Fail From 100 Feet Judging Chairman Dave Houlihan Lots of ways to fail a Performance Verification test. Judging Standard seems simple enough: The purpose of the test is to determine if the car entered is correctly equipped and able to fully function and perform as designed, intended and expected when new. Unacceptable to add or remove any option. Two tests are used to determine if an alteration from original configuration will disqualify a car from PV. Acceptable equipment is that which meets BOTH the following criteria: A. Does not provide an operational advantage or enhancement to the designed function of the vehicle. B. Does not result in a different mode of operation or provide a different result than would be expected from the original part. e.g. Tires: Original construction - if it came with bias-ply construction tires, other types such as radial construction would disqualify the car from testing. You want original-type, size, and construction tires as specified with the original option content. Cars originally equipped with Extended Mobility Tires should have EMT or some indication of a run flat tire molded into the sidewall. Likewise, cars that did NOT originally come with run flats should not have EMTs for a PV. So how do you fail a PV from 100 feet? And yes it happens! Wheels. PV also requires car be equipped with appropriate year wheel covers or optional wheels. PV judges have spotted inappropriate year wheels on a car and failed it from 100 feet. Dave Bowtie Breast Cancer awareness pins. $5.00 each. Midway USA Tune Up Page 6

Meeting Minutes - Midway USA Chapter of NCRS, Inc. Minutes Prepared By Fill in Jo Houlihan Here are the minutes from our September meeting. Jim was unable to make the meeting and ask if I would help. I thought I could remember, but Jim didn t have that warm and fuzzy feeling. He called Dave and Rick to remind them to remind me to take notes. Let s see how I do!! Rick called the meeting to order right at 9am and every one hushed to hear what he had to say. He thanked Dave Dennis and Brad Hillhouse for bringing their cars to be judged today. We had 20 members in attendance with one guest. Rick welcomed our guest, Manny Balale. He has a 1963 and is a member the South Winds Corvette Club. Manny accompanied Dave to Indianapolis for Bloomington Gold quest this past summer. He planned to stay and see Dave s car be judge by NCRS. Dallas gave our treasurer s report. He said we have two new members, so he deposited $40 into our account, bringing the total to $2166.67 with our $100.00 in savings. Rick had a couple of items for Dale. First he asked him to get us a new membership list. The second item was our Octoberfeast picnic, as to whether he could get his Club House reserved. Dale replied affirmative to both item and ask about our Christmas party and if we wanted to use the club for it as well. After discussion, Dec 8 is out (already taken by Air Capital Corvette Club for their Christmas party). Dale will check Dec 7, 14 or 15 availability as possible dates. Then someone asked Dale about his new ride. He was more than happy to tell us about it. With his wife encouraging him, THEY bought a 2014 Red Corvette Convertible with tan interior. It has a black soft top and is an automatic. It had 13,000 miles on it when he picked it up, and they now have 15,000 with the miles climbing. Rick asked John Hecker about his new car. He bought (and drove it to our meeting today) a 2017 Grand Sport with its maiden voyage to the National Convention in Las Vegas. Next topic of discussion was about the car show. Dallas had talked to Jonathan here as Davis Moore about changing the date of our car show to get more participation. He was very willing to help. He asked that we don t do it at the end of the month and/or not in March or September. He would even be willing to let us do an evening show, but they would be closed and we would not have any facilities to use. Our guest, Manny, is in charge of the car show during Riverfest and wasn t sure how much their show took away from ours. Kent motioned to move the car show to the first Saturday in June as the car show for Riverfest is only during the second weekend of Riverfest. It was seconded and passed. Dallas suggested changing the hours of the car show to help get out of the heat and wind. It was suggested to do the show from 9am -1pm. Rick asked if we had anything else that we needed to discuss. Gene Holtz reminded everyone of the Long Star Regional in October, and to get registered. He also said the NCRS Retreat in March in Dallas is an excellent opportunity to learn about judging. Rick reminded us to have more donuts. But you had to watch out as John Jones was the self appointed donut watcher. Dave will be putting on a Judging School before our Judging Event starts. Dave s Judging School will be about How to Handle Disputes. Meeting was adjourned so the Judging School could begin and immediately after we would judge our two cars. Did You Know Answer (from page 2): The 1981 Corvette was the first model year to be built simultaneously in two locations. The first Corvette was completed at the new Bowling Green, Kentucky, assembly line on June 1,1981. The last Corvette built at St. Louis was completed on August 1, 1981. Midway USA Tune Up Page 8
