Barceló Brno Palace General The Comsa Brno Palace Hotel is exactly the type of a hotel that the city lacked. The building was originally built around the 1950 s and was successfully renovated, so that from outside it fits perfectly into its neighbourhood, yet inside it is a hidden gem of design with a spacious and light atrium. You can soak up the historical athmosphere directly from the window of your luxurious room. The hotel not only offers a great escape into the world of luxury, but also an ideal combination of historical athmosphere with easy access to the city centre, the centre of shopping as well as business, as the hotel lies right in the heart of Brno. The hotel is located very close to the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, commonly referred to as Petrov and the adjoining Denis Gardens. It is also just a few steps from Špilberk Castle and its fortification. Other historical monuments are also close by. Accommodation The renovated five-storey hotel building is divided into several wings and offers 119 luxury rooms in total. All rooms have been designed by the famous Spanish designer Paco Entrena, who complied with the unique historical style of the 19th century combined with the current trends in modern design when designing this impressive building of the third millennium. Even the entrance into the hotel itself is fascinating. From the outside the hotel looks like a palace, and the atrium is spectacular, combining traditional architecture with modern design. You will fully realize and enjoy the enormous atrium space when you go to your room via the glass elevator. On the ground floor there is a breakfast Staré Brno ( Old Brno ) restaurant. It has furnishings with design features and modern plastic chairs. On the other hand, when you walk into the Palazzo restaurant, you will be impressed with its cozy atmosphere, nice music enhancing the atmosphere, dim lighting, gorgeous decorations and lots of antique mirrors. The Palazzo makes a contrasting counterpart to the Staré Brno restaurant. There, you may feel as if you would are in a different century in the middle of a palace dining room. If you just want to have a drink, you can sit in the spacious atrium of the hotel or in a smaller bar on the hidden side of the atrium. In the basement of the hotel you can find both large and small conference rooms with all amenities along with a wellness centre. Room furnishings combine traditional style with a modern design. Upon entering the room you will immediately smell a beautiful floral scent. The bathroom has a whirlpool tub. Everything is brand new, clean and shiny. The beds are so large that you may even get the feeling that you got lost in the bed! Bedding is made of high quality white satin, which is very pleasant to the touch, so you feel like you are covered with a cloud. You can also choose from different types of pillows according to your taste. Higher category rooms usually have one extra room with a sofa and a Nespresso coffee machine. Gastronomy Based on the opinions of professional chefs, the hotel restaurant Palazzo is considered the best restaurant in Brno. Of course it depends on what exactly you are looking for. If you prefer traditional Czech cuisine, it is better to choose a different place. However, if you want to try a simple, but unique menu prepared by the well known chef Liam Claringbold, then don't hesitate and visit this restaurant! It is definitely worth trying the "tasting menu", so that you have the opportunity to taste a little bit of each dish. Only then, will you be able to appreciate the
culinary artistry of the chef. The menu consists of eight dishes. They are served in rather small portions, but after you finish eating, you will find out that you are pleasantly full instead of bloated. The food is simple, and therein lies its charm. All the ingredients are fresh, so their taste stands out. The cooks do not use excessive quantities of salt or spices, so you can fully enjoy the taste of well-prepared food. I definitely recommend this unique culinary experience to everyone, but be prepared, you may have to dig deeper into your pockets in order to enjoy it. As for the breakfast, it was excellent! Everyone gets what they like, whether you are a fan of healthy diet, or a lover of an English breakfast. Relaxation The Comsa Brno Palace Hotel has a very nice and newly built relaxation centre. All services, except massages, are available for free to the hotel guests. Upon entering you will immediately smell a pleasant aroma of flowers and massage oils. The massage room is entirely separate to allow more privacy. The entire relaxation centre is full of a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. The sauna and relaxation room is shrouded in romantic shadows with subdued light. The sauna itself is very spacious and most of the time it is empty, so you can enjoy your relaxation alone and without distraction. Then you can take a cold shower from a special broad showerhead, which will make you feel as if you were standing in the rain. If you prefer something different, you can use a room with a special stone bed on which you lay and the stream of water flows directly on your hot body. If you still haven t had enough, then you can cool down with crushed ice falling into a glass container. The relaxation centre also contains a mini gym, which is free. When I use the term mini, I really mean it. There are only 3 or 4 machines. But it is nicely furnished and newly equipped. Personal Impression The Palazzo Restaurant is a rather quiet place most of the time and you usually dine with only a few other guests. But I was lucky, so that I could dine with the stars of Czech and Slovakian showbusiness - Palo Habera, Adéla Banášová, Zdeněk Troška and others, who appeared in the restaurant during the evening. As I was the only person dining there, I had a chance to have a short chat with them. This proves that you never know which celebrity you can meet here, so don t miss the opportunity! The wellness centre is new and beautiful, but what was really disappointing was the fact that the sauna was not sufficiently preheated. Its temperature was only at 60
