ITINERARY DAY 1: BOGOTA On arrival in Bogota you will be welcomed by your local guide who will join you on your transfer to your hotel. Your first evening is at leisure to relax and acclimatise. DAY 2: BOGOTA Today your guide will take you on a full day city tour of Bogota, visiting some of the highlights of the city including the Gold Museum which is situated on the northeast corner of the Parque Santander and includes 35,000 pieces of Pre-Colombian gold work in the collection. A highlight of today is the Bogotá Paloquemao market, offering a great insight into the life and customs of Bogotanos. The market is one of the most important in the country, where 750 merchants and a labyrinth of stands offer a large variety of fruit, vegetables, dairy products, meats and flowers, one of Colombia's biggest exports. Next you will visit the finest view point of Bogota, the hill top look out and monastery of Monserrate, reached by either funicular railway or cable car. From the highest point the view across the city will enable you to see the different sectors of Bogota. The new convent is a pilgrimage site for many Colombians who make their way past the fourteen Stations of the Cross until reaching the convent. (B,L) DAY 3: BOGOTA - PEREIRA Today take the short flight to Colombia's rural heartland and transfer to your hacienda. Spend the afternoon at leisure to relax, enjoy some fine coffee and immerse yourself in the beautiful surroundings. (B) DAY 4: PEREIRA In the morning leave for the Valle de Cocora which is the ideal place to marvel at the wax palm tree - Colombia's national tree that can reach a staggering height of 60m. Upon arrival in the valley, either hiking or on horseback, head into the cloud forest to enjoy the biodiversity of flora and fauna - including hummingbirds and parrots. Lunch will be very special as you are treated to a premium lunch within the valley. In the afternoon continue 10km towards the traditional towns of Salento and Filandia. Enjoy some time soaking up the regional atmosphere and perhaps some local spirits before returning to the hotel. (B,L)
DAY 5: PEREIRA Your half day day premium coffee tour begins at Café San Alberto which is one of the best fincas in the region. Learn everything about the world of coffee preparation - the characteristics of quality, the reasons why this area can produce such a variety of amazing coffee and of course sample the end product! You will also visit a botanical garden and have lunch at a local ranch restaurant. (B) DAY 6: PEREIRA - TAYRONA NATIONAL PARK Fly to Santa Marta via Bogota and take the short transfer to the lush wilderness of Tayrona, where beautiful Caribbean beaches meet a dense forest teeming with wildlife. (B) DAY 7: TAYRONA NATIONAL PARK Head into the foothills of the world's highest coastal mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, with a private guide. You will arrive in Minca, which is famous for its waterfalls and abundant birdlife. Return to your hotel in Tayrona at the end of the tour. (B,L) DAY 8: TAYRONA NATIONAL PARK There is no better place to relax and listen to the calming rhythms of the waves than Tayrona. As you sit on the white sands of Cañaveral imagine what is behind you. A biosphere of tropical and deciduous forests, a population of nearly 26,500 indigenous people form tribes including Koji, Arhuaco and Wiwa, and the world's highest coastal mountain range! In front of you the Caribbean ocean with its well preserved coral reef, bays, inlets and to the side an extensive coast of fine beaches and scenery. Time can be spent relaxing on the beach or in a hammock, or wandering the beach and jungle trails, a true picture perfect beach paradise. (B) DAY 9: TAYRONA NATIONAL PARK - CARTAGENA Your private driver will transfer you to Cartagena, with a chance to stop in Barranquilla famed for its Carnival. This evening you will then enjoy a romantic horse and carriage tour through the charming streets of the old town. (B)
DAY 10: CARTAGENA Cartagena's colonial centre and fortress is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and this morning you will have a guided tour of some of its highlights, beginning with the Castillo San Felipe, the largest Spanish fortification in the Americas. Continuing on to the Convento La Popa, the highest point in the city, you'll then enjoy some commanding views across the bay, before returning to the city. (B) DAY 11: CARTAGENA Day at leisure to enjoy this charming city. This evening you will have the luxury of sailing the waters around Catagena on a private yacht out. As the sunsets, viewing the old town from the water is a magical experience. The trip normally takes about 2 hours and during the sail you will also get a chance to see the entrances into the bay that the Spanish were so keen to defend and begin to understand how difficult it must have been to take the city from the sea. The forts situated at the mouth of the bay, including the fort of San Fernando, were perfectly located to defend the entrance and from the water you will get a chance to see their mighty defences. (B) DAY 12: CARTAGENA - PROVIDENCIA Today you will fly via San Andres to the picturesque Caribbean island of Providencia. Check-in at your boutique hotel. (B) DAY 13: PROVIDENCIA Lying midway between Costa Rica and Jamaica, Providencia is part of an archipelago that was once used as a base by the notorious pirate, Henry Morgan. This tranquil island is home to coral reefs, small cayes and a sizeable population of black land crabs. Part of a UNESCO marine protected area, it can also boast some of the greatest marine biodiversity on earth. (B) DAY 14: PROVIDENCIA Day at leisure to enjoy your island paradise - snorkel, explore the nearby cayes, or just relax at the beach. (B)
