Two 1-week sessions (Sessions 1 & 6) Four 2-week sessions (Sessions 2-5) Flexible Scheduling May register for camp for 1-4 days during Session 1. Our summer staff are selected for their strong character, maturity, enthusiasm, and commitment to our Y values. Many are Camp Alumni and choose to work at camp to ensure that your child has the same amazing experience that they did! Staff undergo extensive screening including annual criminal background checks, reference checks, and interviews. We provide extensive staff training covering behavioral management, camper safety, child abuse prevention, CPR/AED/First Aid certification, child development, team building and social facilitation. Our staff encourage group participation and cooperation, building self-confidence and self-esteem. They give each camper an opportunity to develop life-long interests in a variety of program areas. Camp Watchaug is located on 35 acres on the shore of Watchaug Pond in Charlestown, RI. Facilities include wooded areas, waterfront, lodge, nature center, arts & crafts building, the Hummingbird House for our 4 & 5 year olds, pavilion, picnic area, basketball court, ga ga court, pirate ship playscape, amphitheatre, archery range, climbing wall, zip line, plus low and high ropes courses. Campers try new activities, develop life skills, learn how to play with others and have fun! Every day he came home with a smile and excited about his day. -Camper Parent Traditional Camp allows campers to try a variety of activities in a small age-appropriate group with the same counselor each day who is able to focus on each individual camper. Specialty Camps allow campers to focus on a specialty activity AND get a taste of traditional camp. Campers will spend 2 or 3 periods a day in specialty activities and 2 or 3 periods rotating through a variety of traditional activities. There s a Specialty program for everyone. Programs include Lego, Water Sports, Tails & Trails (Program with Westerly Animal Shelter), Drama, Counselor-in-Training and Gymnastics. Fun for all! Campers enjoy a variety of outdoor experiences which promote physical activity, mental creativity and an environment to build life-long friendships; and also provide children the opportunity to develop independence, resiliency and a sense of self-empowerment. Camp is designed to instill our Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect & Responsibility. ACA Accreditation. As part of our commitment to the highest standards of health, safety and program quality, we choose to be accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). ACA is the only independent accrediting organization in the country that reviews camping operations against strict quality standards. Extended Day is at the Arcadia & Westerly YMCA s. Campers are bused to and from camp. Y-Cares Financial Assistance. Through generous volunteer and community support we are able to send children to camp who otherwise would not be able to attend. Financial assistance for families who qualify is through our Y-Cares program. If you need assistance please do not hesitate to contact us. If you are able, please consider a donation to our Y-Cares Campership Fund. You may make a pledge on the registration form, through our website or at the Y. Trading Post Cards may be purchased for an additional $10 per card. Campers use their Trading Post cards to purchase Camp Watchaug gear or a frozen treat, snack or drink (no candy or soda) after lunch.
