Volume 38, #9 September, 2006 We have 2 very important events in September. The first is the annual club picnic at the Narrows Park in Council Bluffs. The Speedway Motors Museum tour was one of the highlights of the summer tour season. Special thanks to Don Graves for arranging this great tour. October 6th to 8th The main attraction of our fall tour will be the Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park. This geological site northwest of Norfolk contains the intact skeletons of many rhinos, horses, camels, birds, etc. that were killed 12 million years ago by ash from a volcano in Idaho. The ash, which was powdered glass, has preserved the animal skeletons not just in pieces like you usually see them, but as whole skeletons. This should be an educational and interesting tour. Of course, we will do our usual scouting out of good places to eat and have fun along the way. The plan is to leave Friday afternoon, spend the night in Norfolk, and visit the Ashfall Beds on Saturday morning. Some other potential nearby attractions are still under investigation for Saturday afternoon and evening. We will travel home on Sunday. Save the date and let us know if you are interested in joining the tour. Sign up at the meeting or call Don & Janet Graves (453-7166). October 19 th Eat out at Pizza King, 1101 N. Broadway in Council Bluffs 7:00pm. 6
