Petit Ceinture little belt Paris by Bruce Dunton The Petite Ceinture, little belt, is a 32km track that encircles Paris. It opened in 1862, but it always struggled to become viable. It was finally abandoned in 1993. Many parts are still intact. In 2016 we took my original railbike out there and just attempted to help ourselves and bear the consequences, but we ran into the management. You cannot then imagine our surprise when they welcomed us with open arms!! I had even gone to the trouble of taking with me a detailed risk assessment, translated into French, in case we were arrested! Thankfully it wasn t needed. The following year they invited us back to help them run public open days and we were giving people rides on the new machine. The lass in the middle is Carine Petit, Mairie Du 14e Arrondissement, Paris. She wants the line preserved for recreation and not built on. I love the Petit Ceinture and we have made some good friends there in the 12 th, 14 th and 20 th arrondissements of Paris. They have extended an open invitation to us, so I am keen to return. If anyone is interested in mounting a return trip, do contact me and I can make some enquiries to see what would be possible.
