2 Visa requirements 6. Participants (except if holding national passports of countries listed under point 10 below) should obtain an entry visa to Macao, China. Participants can obtain a visa from the Embassy or Consulate of People s Republic of China located in their respective countries before departing for Macao. 7. Participants are also advised to obtain, where necessary, a transit visa for places en route to Macao, China before the commencement of their journey. 8. Travel to and from Macao by ferry via Hong Kong would require a separate double entry visa for Hong Kong, China, in addition to an entry visa for Macao, China. 9. Valid passports or other travel documents recognize by the Government of China are required by all participants. 10. Visa-free is applicable to the following visitors of Chinese nationality who hold legally valid travel documents for entry into/ departure from Macao: (a) Residents from Mainland China (for a period of up to 30 days) (b) Hong Kong residents holding: (i) Hong Kong Identity Card with symbols *, ***, or R, (ii) Hong Kong Permanent Resident Identity Card, or (iii) Return Permit (for a period of up to 1 year) Currency and foreign exchange 12. The official currency of Macao, China is the Pataca (MOP), which is currently exchanged at approximately MOP 8.00 to 1 US Dollar. Most international currencies and traveler checks can easily be exchanged at commercial banks, hotels and international airport in Macao, China. The working hours of most banks are 0900 to 1630 from Monday to Friday, and 0900 to 1300 on Saturday. In addition to the official currency, Hong Kong Dollar is also widely accepted. Visa and MasterCard are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops.
RMB, the currency of China, is also accepted at some shops. Electricity supply 13. The electricity supply in Macao, China is 220-240 volts, 50-hertz. Postal and telecommunication services 3 14. The working hours of post office is 0900-1800 from Monday to Friday, and 0900-1300 on Saturday. GSM mobiles phones (900/1800) can be used in Macao, China. Time and Weather 15. Macao, China applies Beijing Standard Time, which is eight hours ahead of GMT. Macao, China has an October-November average daytime temperature of approximately 27 degrees Celsius and evening temperature of around 22 degrees Celsius. Participants are requested to register and obtain meeting badges at the registration desk, located in front of the meeting room on Monday 30 October 2006 between 0800-0830 for the Post Doha workshop and Wednesday 1 November 2006 between 0815 0830 for the ARTNeT Consultative Meeting. Participants who do not register on the opening day are requested to do so on subsequent day, to ensure that their names appear on the list of participants. Working language of the meetings and documents 19. The meetings will be conducted in English, and all documentation will be issued only in English. No interpretation service will be available. Financial and administrative arrangements 20. In those cases where the participation costs are borne by UNESCAP, the financial responsibilities will be limited to meeting travel expenses as indicated below. Any other expenses will be the sole responsibilities of the participants themselves, for example: (i) All expenses in the home country incidental to travel abroad, including expenditure for visa, medical examination, inoculations and other such miscellaneous items and internal travel to and from the airport of arrival and departure in the home country; (ii) Salary and related allowances for the participants during the period of the meeting; (iii) Cost incurred by participants in respect of insurance, accident insurance, medical bills or hospitalization fees in connection with attending the meeting; (iv) Compensation in the event of death or disability of participants in connection with attending the meeting; (v) Any loss of or damage to personal property of participants while attending the meeting or losses or damages claimed by third parties as a result of any negligence on the part of the participants; (vi) Any other expenses of a personal nature, not directly related to the purpose of the meeting. 21. Participants are advised to ensure that their return bookings are confirmed soon after their arrival in Macao. 22. For participants whose travel is sponsored by UNESCAP, UNDP offices in participants respective countries will be authorized to issue participants most direct economy round-trip air ticket (home country/macao/home country) to arrive at Macao one day before the meeting and to depart the day after the meeting. UNESCAP s travel authorization will be sent to local UNDP offices (with copy to participants) about five working days before the meeting. The participants will be provided with daily subsistence allowance based on UN DSA rate in October. This is approximately USD139. DSA in connection with transit expenses for places en route to and from Macao according to the authorized travel route (not applicable to helicopter) will be reimbursed upon participants submission of their completed UN voucher for reimbursement of expenses (F.10 form) to the UNESCAP secretariat, within two weeks after the return to their respective countries. Delay in submission of F.10 claim form by participants may not be accommodated after the closure of project accounts. The duly completed F.10 forms must be sent along with the used air ticket stubs, boarding passes, hotel bills and the completed payment instruction forms which will be provided, on request, at the meeting. For participants whose countries do not have UNDP offices, UNESCAP will send travel advice to respective airlines in their countries for ticket collection. 23. To facilitate the payment of subsistence allowance and confirm return flights, eligible participants are requested to submit the attached arrival/departure forms (page 5) together with their air tickets, passports and inbound boarding passes to the UNESCAP secretariat staff on duty in the conference room before the opening of the meeting. 24. UNESCAP-sponsored participants are expected to stay for the full duration of the meeting. However, if for any sudden reason, they are unable to stay for the full duration of the meeting, they are requested to inform the secretariat as soon as possible so that their daily subsistence allowance can be adjusted accordingly.
