But on June 21, 2014, on a cool rainy day, summer finally arrived. Most people look forward to summer events. But my perception is a bit different. The days are already getting shorter and Winter is coming. My new skis have been ordered since February. We have a great line up of trips for the 2014/2015 season. Checkout the rest of the newsletter for more details on: 01/23 01/25/2015 Bellearye Mountain, NY Carpool Trip 02/07 02/11/2015 Northern Vermont Bus Trip 03/14 03/21/2015 Mt. Bachelor, OR Western Trip Scott advised me that Steve and Isabella are doing battle with a bear in the Colonial Inn backyard. I ve added a beer tour for our bus trip and Mary has finalized plans with Winter Ski and Sports for our first visit to Mt. Bachelor with lodging in Bend, OR. Unfortunately, Mike has postponed his Val Thorens trip until 2016. Our Club picnic will be on Sunday, August 3rd at Lake Meade and the day s events will be hosted by Mike and Susie Mummert. Again the details are in this newsletter. We plan to attend the Microfest event at Stoudt s Brewery on Saturday, August 23, 2014 and the Maryland wine festival on Sunday, September 21, 2014. Tim Rodencal is planning a Pole Steeple hike and picnic at Laurel Lake at Michaux State Forest this Fall, probably the last weekend in September to take advantage of the Fall colors. I hope to see you at the Club picnic or at one of our Happy Hours. Todd Holtzinger and I are pursing improvements to our sound system for our meetings at Stone Grille, starting on September 16, 2014. Keep your checks coming for membership renewals and the trip signups. YOUR FEARLESS LEADER Rick HAPPY HOUR Tuesday, July 15th - 5:30 pm The Cove (On the deck weather permitting) 1500 S. Belleayre Mountain, NY January 23-25, 2015 The Club will once again be offering a trip back to Belleayre Mtn. Our beloved Belleayre has historically been one of our more popular trips for its après ski offerings and casual atmosphere. We will once again be lodging at the historic Colonial Inn & Restaurant, just about two miles from the ski area on Friday and Saturday night. Belleayre Mtn. has a trail system that is suited for all ski levels. Its high base elevation means Belleayre gets more natural snow than other areas in the Catskills. With the peak at 3,429, vertical drop of 1,404, we should have a great time on the 35 trails. Check out their website: www. belleayre.com TRAVEL DAY: FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 2015 Members will carpool to Pine Hill, NY at their leisure. There are nearby resorts that skiers/boarders may want to visit in route. Check in time at the Colonial Inn is 4pm. LODGING: The Colonial Inn & Restaurant, is a rustic family style inn that was built in 1870. It has just 12 rooms with private baths, a very large TV lounge area, game room, cocktail lounge and eclectic display of furnishings. All amenities combine to form a well- rounded cultural experience. Make your check to the YORK SKI CLUB and forward with trip sign up sheet (available on web site) to: Mary Amsbaugh, 1721 Monterey Ct., Dover PA 173215 INFORMATION: Mary Amsbaugh at 764-6145 or Deb Angstadt at 755-5876 TRIP INSURANCE CONSIDERATION Last season several YSC members had to deal with power outages/family emergencies, etc. and were unable to participate in club trips. Luckily, YSC was able to work with resorts and refund some lift ticket and lodging costs not utilized. Typically, our tour operator, Winter Ski and Sports, offers trip insurance on our Western adventure. Premiums can be up to 7% of the trip costs. Please consider this option when we go to Mt. Bachelor, OR. There are other third party carriers that you may consider for some other trips. For example Travel Guard offers these options: Cancellation, Interruption or Delay Coverage Medical Expense and Evacuation Coverage Lost or Delayed Baggage Coverage Travel Guard policies are not cheap. They even offer coverages for trip delays and cancellation for any reason, but this type of policy must be purchased within a very short time and after you make your first payment. You may want to consider this coverage for the bus trip. The coach transportation cost is not refundable. The final decision to offer refunds is up to the Board of Directors. Decisions are made on a case by case basis and are subject to the trip having a surplus or profit. We were happy to issue refunds last season, but the YSC typically doesn t have the ability to return funds everytime, especially when trips are priced to compete with other clubs. GO FIGURE...To help promote our Northern Virginia bus trip, I ve been thinking of ways to shorten our Jay Peak, Smuggler s Notch, Stowe Mountain Resort trip name. In the future the trip may also be called Triple Play + (hope I m not offending Comcast), for the 3 resorts plus an extra morning at Stowe, our visit to the Pump House Water park or side trip to Magic Hat. Just remember Triple Play + or for you math geeks 3X+....Rick
