From the Helm Fellow Members, Now is the time to consider filling the Board of Directors and Bridge vacancies that will occur at year s end. We have two Board members whose terms will expire, and the 2018 Bridge will need to be appointed as well. The current Board will approve a Nominating Committee chairman at the August meeting, and he/she will select one Board member and three members-at-large to make up the committee. The 2018 slate will be presented at the October general meeting. We encourage anyone interested in serving as a member of the Board or Bridge to contact any current Board member to express your interest in participating. NBYC is a volunteer club, and we need your efforts to successfully steer the ship going forward. Thank you for volunteering and see you on the water, Karl -Karl Lichty 637-6633 karlkorker@yahoo.com

NBYC 2017 Cruising Ahhh, or is augh! Anyway, summer is definitely here. As I said in our meeting, we really need to get some flash cruises going or plan a regular cruise for August or Sept. So far Lucky Girl has left twice for Beaufort to only get as far as New Bern with minor engine issues. A Beaufort cruise about mid-september would be a great cruise for someone to lead! There's also still plenty of time for a trailer boat cruise to one of NC's many lakes. Make sure you wear those special glasses when you watch the eclipse! -Buck Irvin, Rear Commodore 675-2772 barefoot446@gmail.com Help plan the 2017 NBYC Calendar! Do you have an idea? NBYC FLAGPOLE celebration JULY 4 th, 2017 Proudly overlooking Brices Creek and the marshlands extending to the Trent River, the NBYC Flagpole is probably the most impressive nautical flagpole in all of Eastern North Carolina. The traditional gaff-rigged pole stands over 38 feet tall. The lighted flagpole was designed and built by a committee of hard-working member volunteers and supported by the generosity of the general membership. A paved walkway of laser-engraved Commemorative Bricks surrounds the base of the Flagpole. We invite you to leave your permanent legacy at NBYC by purchasing a personally-engraved brick. Take a walk on the brick surround it s great fun! Contact Lucy Lichty for brick ordering assistance (637-6633) or visit our website below: LASER-ENGRAVED COMMEMORATIVE BRICKS

The Jewels of the Flagpole There are two brick sizes available. They are very reasonably priced compared to similar brick fundraisers. Checks are made payable to NBYC. 4 x 8 Brick with up to 3 lines of engraving and up to 18 characters per line. Price $75, includes permanent laser engraving and shipping. 8 x 8 Brick with up to 6 lines of engraving and up to 18 characters per line. Price $125, includes permanent laser engraving and shipping. Character counts include spaces and punctuation. Proofs are provided before engraving. Text is centered and all-caps for clarity. Add a custom logo for only $10. Please contact Lucy Lichty for brick ordering assistance (637-6633) or visit our website below.

Directory Updates If you are aware of an update to the directory, please let Jim Miller know. Email is much better than meeting at Lowe s or Harris Teeter, and even better than a phone call, but any form of communication is better than ignoring it. Misplaced your directory? It is also available online at newbernyachclub.com in the Members Only tab. -James C Miller 636-3388 jcmnbnc@jayseemill.com Cards were sent to Troy Daugherty following his surgery and Dona Baker for speedy recovery from her close encounter with a dog. In addition, cards were sent to Sherril Miller, and Leslie Allen. If you know a member who is, or recently has been, sick, had an operation, or just under the weather, or lost a family member, please contact the Sunshine Committee. -Camille Hoffman 672-1684 camhoff1@gmail.com Shipmates Information Treasurer s Report The Treasurer s Report may be viewed on eseaword in the members only section after Board acceptance. Board Meeting Minutes If you would like a copy of the Board Meeting Minutes, it may be obtained (after Board acceptance) by emailing the Secretary or by viewing on eseaword. Ship s Store Think about an NBYC item of apparel with numerous yacht club designs and logos from which to choose. We now have another wonderful embroidery logo of our burgee. The newest items are caps and now visors that can be embroidered with your choice of design and/or words. You can also peruse the New Bern Sporting Goods catalogue and if you cannot find what you want, I will be happy to help you by working with the people at the NBSG store. We have in stock: Tervis tumblers, note cards, glassware, towels, and various men's and women's shirts. If I can help in any way or if you have questions, please contact me. -Sue Marsh 571-5286 sue1946@hotmail.com
