FROM THE ATATÜRK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT There are many ways one can get from the Istanbul Atatürk International Airport to the IFEA in Beyoğlu. In order of fastest to slowest speeds, the routes include taxis, the metro, shuttle buses, and city buses. If you are inclined towards Google Maps, see here for convenience: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1tv0n5ruydes3cuhe7e9eci6tovi&usp=sharing. >> TAXI If you take a taxi (around 50 65 TL and ~30 minutes, depending on traffic), ask the driver to take you to Odakule in Beyoğlu (Odakule İş Merkezi on the linked map). Ask to be dropped on Meşrutiyet Caddesi, the street between the TRT Otoparkı and Odakule, just next to the Pera Museum. From there, walk through the corridor to İstiklal Caddesi. The IFEA is located on the street next to the Ziraat Bankası (Nur-i Ziya Sokak, no 10). >> METRO Every 5 minutes If you take the metro (around 10 TL and ~45 minutes), you will need an "IstanbulKart" (a public transportation card, see below) or tokens, purchasable at most metro stations (usually around 5TL/person/ride with two rides required). The Metro from the airport is open 06:00 24:00. Follow signs to the underground Metro in the airport and take the M1a Atatürk Havalimanı - Yenikapı (red) line from the airport to Yenikapı, the last stop (see Map 2 below). From Yenikapı, transfer to the M2 Yenikapı Hacıosman (green) line and take it to the Şişhane stop. When exiting, follow the signs for "İstiklal" and, after many escalators, emerge at the Şişhane (İstiklal) Metro station (on the linked map), at the intersection of İstiklal Caddesi and Şah Kulu Bostan Sokak. Make a U-turn and then turn right on İstiklal Caddesi, following it all the way to the IFEA. For more information on the metro, please visit the website at http://www.ulasim.istanbul/en. 3
Map: İstanbul Rapid Transit Network >> HAVABUS SHUTTLE BUS Every half hour If you take a Havabus shuttle bus (around 12 TL (luggage included) and ~40 minutes, depending on traffic), look for the Havabus buses at the exit of the airport (usually in the second lane). They leave every 30 minutes for Beyoğlu/Taksim between 04:00 and 01:00 and you can put your luggage in the undercarriage. The best place to get off is the last stop in front of the Point Hotel, just past Taksim Square. From there you can walk (about 15-20 min) or take a taxi down Meşrutiyet Cd. past the British Consulate and reach Odakule (Odakule İş Merkezi on the linked map). From there, walk through the corridor to İstiklal Cd. The IFEA is located in the small street facing the Odakule building, (right next to the Ziraat Bankası) FROM SABİHA GÖKÇEN AIRPORT The Sabiha Gökçen Airport is located on the Asian side of Istanbul, well outside the city center. >> HAVABUS SHUTTLE BUS If you take a Havabus shuttle bus (around 15 TL (luggage included) and ~90 minutes, depending on traffic), look for the Havabus buses at the exit of the airport. They leave every 30 minutes for Beyoğlu/Taksim between 04:00 and 01:00 and you can put your luggage in the undercarriage. The best place to get off is the last stop in front of the Point Hotel, just past Taksim Square. From there you can walk (about 15-20 min) or take a taxi down Meşrutiyet Cd. past the British Consulate and reach Odakule. From there, walk through the corridor to İstiklal Cd. The IFEA is located in the small street facing the Odakule building (right next to the Ziraat Bankası) >> TAXİ Unless money and time are no concern, we discourage taking taxis from Sabiha Gökçen Airport. The ride to Beyoğlu may take more than an hour and may cost more than 100 TL, depending on traffic and route. 4
>> METRO and CITY BUS Map: Route from Sabiha Gökçen International Airport to Beyoğlu How to Get an IstanbulKart IstanbulKart (Istanbul Card) is in essence an allround public transportation boarding pass. It is worth getting one if you plan to use public transportation multiple times during your stay in Istanbul (which you likely will). There are quite a few advantages to getting an IstanbulKart versus using tokens or a ticket each time you use public transportation. This single card enables you to pay for multiple types of transportation: the metro, buses, ferries, funiculars, and tramways (even the nostalgic one running along Istiklal Caddesi). Moreover, most of these transportation types no longer accept cash payments, so you ll have to buy some kind of token or ticket before boarding anyway. The IstanbulKart is a prepaid and rechargeable card. This means you don t have to stand in line (and maybe miss the bus or tram) to get a valid boarding pass each time you plan to make use of public transportation. Uploading credits can be done at designated machines found at most metro and tram stations. The easiest way to get the IstanbulKart is at major transit stops such as the airport, Sultanahmet, and Eminönü. To buy an IstanbulKart, you need to pay a nonrefundable 10 TL fee (for the actual card and the service), and of course an amount of your choice to load onto the card. 5
